Nominator's rationale: WP:SMALLCAT. Suggest deletion, not merging, because none of the entries in the category are actual robotic insects, just works containing them. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 22:26, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 16:29, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: They belong on two different category trees. There is only one hunter currently listed, and even then, it is not as obvious as the others being park rangers. If there were more hunters/gamekeepers listed, merging would be a better option. (Oinkers42) (talk) 20:59, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per actual content. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:55, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: When I said that merging would be a better option if there were more hunters/gamekeepers listed, I meant to say splitting. Please do not be confused by this. (Oinkers42) (talk) 18:26, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Fairly unremarkable US politician, category mostly contains elections he has contested. Le Deluge (talk) 10:31, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, not a defining characteristic for most of the articles. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:06, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete for Now per WP:OCEPON. No conceptual objection to the category if we get up to 5+ articles defined by him but, right now, I count just 1: Joe Sestak. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:12, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Possible WP:OCAWARD?? I have no real sense of the importance of this in Indian society, but the monetary value does not appear that great (about GBP1000 and 2000). I'm happy to leave it to experts on Indian culture to comment on the significance, if it is significant then I'm OK with that. Le Deluge (talk) 10:17, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is quite a big deal - the money is small but the Indian President and PM give out the prizes. See the template and wikipedia article about the award Victuallers (talk) 11:24, 24 November 2020 (UTC) Can someone glance for a moment at this. Victuallers (talk) 11:28, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OTOH, there's various other awards given out by heads of state that we don't have categories for, and it seems like it's certainly not defining for at least some of the recipients - the first three female fighter pilots for instance. It feels like it's a 50:50 - there will be more notable awards whose recipients have been OCAWARDed, and less notable awards that have kept their category. I don't have a strong view (and am quite aware of the possibility of geo-bias), but felt it worth discussion. As an aside, I came across it because you hadn't categorised the category. Le Deluge (talk) 14:35, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award is also given out by the Indian President and that award doesn't come within a country mile of being defining for the recipients. That's not to say there is anything negative about; like this award it is trying to recognize greatness, but we categorize awards based on they define the receiver. RevelationDirect (talk) 02:23, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, obvious case of WP:OCAWARD. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:01, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete/Listifying Since the enthusiastic creator of the category added the award to an article entry, I looked at some articles (top 2 non-WP hits for each of the 3 articles on Duck Duck Go) and the award does not seem to be generally defining. The main article already lists the winners. - RevelationDirect (talk) 02:33, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:28, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: There have only been 7 Presidents of Somaliland in 27 years, so any division by party just generates WP:SMALLCATs. And as an aside, neither category matches its parent article, or the parent "...politicians" category. Le Deluge (talk) 09:50, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ok, I thought I had checked that, but apparently I was just intending to. As it stands now, the categories can simply be deleted. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:46, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 16:29, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is a better representation of the articles in the category. It is not being used as a category for bio articles. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:28, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. Alternatively the category may be upmerged to Category:Islamic Republic of Iran Navy. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:39, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - the same objection applies to Category:Marines, mostly not bios (marine corps would be an alternative). Oculi (talk) 20:05, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Marine corps would really be an Americanism, especially since in most countries besides the U.S. the marines are not organized as a separate corps independent of the army or navy. Per main article Marines, this term seems to be the most common way to describe this military specialty, with marine infantry and naval infantry being alternatives. Place Clichy (talk) 09:58, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename, but I see no harm in keeping a redirect at the old short name. – Fayenatic London 12:20, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The article was moved from Ministry of Shipping (India) to Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (India) without discussion. I suggest renaming the category to match. Keeping a redirect would be reasonable. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:01, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom, unless the article title is reverted. Note that is a very recent name change, not only in Wikipedia but also in real life. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:42, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Official names of ministries tend to change with every cabinet reshuffle, in India and elsewhere. Renaming Wikipedia categories accordingly does not seem to be a best practice, as the category content would also cover historical entities and past ministers dating from a time when what is essentially the same ministry had another name. Sticking with the long-used short name looks more consistent in time. Place Clichy (talk) 09:58, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename for Now The category should follow the main article to aid navigation but I share Place Clichy's concerns about stability here. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:27, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose This is one case where we should not blindly follow unilateral renaming. The shorter name is better for a category, and an article. Unless someone can explain a good reason for the rename, we should rename the article to the shorter, more common form.John Pack Lambert (talk) 19:34, 10 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    • It's pretty easy to explain the reason for the rename: it's the actual name of the entity. Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:22, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • Wikipedia does not hold to official names, but common names. So that does not explain using such actual long-winded names.John Pack Lambert (talk) 20:13, 22 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
        • Johnpacklambert, I assume you are referring to WP:COMMONNAME, which is part of the naming guidelines for article titles. Your comment would make more sense if we were deciding on what the article is to be named. Here, the article name is already settled (more or less), and we are making a decision on the category name. It makes little sense to have different names for the the article name and the category name. Sometimes WP:COMMONNAME is invoked for categories, but in any case, no one has demonstrated here that the common name is any different than the official name. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:08, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename. We should use the official name. To do otherwise borders on (or in some cases actually is) WP:OR. - The Bushranger One ping only 06:41, 18 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename — reflecting government changes, we should update. This should not be a difficult process.

Nominator's rationale: Unnecessary stub template/category scheme created by inexperienced and since blocked editor. Candidates for this would be tagged with {{2020s-single-stub}}. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:51, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • If the creator has been blocked, this can be Speedily deleted, no? Grutness...wha? 02:20, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
{{db-g5}} doesn't seem to apply but perhaps {{db-t3}} (duplicates functionality of 2020s-single-stub) is, which would result in the categories being {{db-c1}} eligible? StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 02:29, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: withdrawn. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:33, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The article was moved from Électricité de France to EDF (company) without discussion. I propose renaming the categories to match. Keeping redirects would be reasonable. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:50, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename per nom, unless the article title is reverted. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:46, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The page move was reverted as it was moved without any discussion. Beagel (talk) 19:43, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Procedural Close The main article has been boldy moved back. - RevelationDirect (talk) 11:59, 26 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 19:43, 3 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:PERFCAT and WP:OCAWARD)
When foreign leaders visit China, or vice versa, the Order of Friendship (China) is given out as souvenir to commemorate the visit. Vladimir Putin, Raúl Castro and Princess Sirindhorn are not remotely defined by this award. (There is one person in this category who is defined by their association with China, Isabel Crook, but her article only mentions the awared in passing.) The contents are already listified here in the main article for any reader interested in the topic. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:47, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Norwegian Nobel Committee[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete/re-parent as nominated. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:32, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:NONDEFINING (WP:OCASSOC)
The Nobel Peace Prize is so prominent I certainly could imagine just being on the selection committee as defining but that doesn't appear to be the case with the actual articles which tend to mention it in passing near the end. (Feel free to click around.) This is becuase the Norwegian Nobel Committee is selected by the Norwegian parliament and tends to be retired high-ranking politicians who would already have a Wikipedia article. (In contrast, the chairpersons of the committee are defined by the association so I just created the subcategory and that may have been the original intent of this category based on the heading.) The contents of this category are already listified in a separate list article. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:47, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
