The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 10:48, 22 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: No clear inclusion criteria. Very few of these appear to actually be "about their own creation"; I doubt Garfield is one of them for instance. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 20:42, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Comics which break the fourth wall seems to be what the category covers. I doubt this is defining in any way. Dimadick (talk) 20:42, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: merge to Category:French footballers. (non-admin closure) Asmodea Oaktree (talk) 18:54, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Trivial intersection per WP:OCEGRS. I found no other intersection of footballers by diaspora community, and I do not think that this criteria has encyclopedia value. Notably, the category mixes people born in Poland who emigrated to France and played football there with French footballers with remote Polish roots, situations which have little in common. Dual merge to other parent categories does not seem to be necessary, as individuals for which Polish descent or nationality is defining are already included in the appropriate category from what I have seen. Category:Songs written by Kyle Jacobs[edit]

The result of the discussion was: rename. bibliomaniac15 06:51, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Article was recently moved to Kyle Jacobs (songwriter), without discussion, so the category is not eligible for speedy renaming. The subject is a musician best known as a songwriter, so the new name seems correct to me. – Fayenatic London 08:32, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename to align with the main article. Marcocapelle (talk) 21:25, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. bibliomaniac15 06:51, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The main article is Religion and geography. I think the proposed name is broader than the current one and better reflects the contents of the category. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:52, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename, I agree that this will be an improvement. – Fayenatic London 16:45, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Place names of French origin in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete (contents were listified during the discussion). Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:25, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:SHAREDNAME (WP:NONDEFINING)
When I saw this category, my initial inclination was to rename it and move it under Category:French-American culture by city because I assumed they were French immigrant communities. But there's really nothing French here except for the place names so the category name is correct, but not remotely defining. The only thing actually French here is Fort Duquesne which is already well categorized. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:30, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Grutness:I just copied the category contents right here so no work is lost if anyone wants to start a list article. Most of the current articles lack a citation saying they are French words (although based on my intro French class they clearly are) so some work would be required in the article space. RevelationDirect (talk) 12:00, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Listified contents at List of place names of French origin in the United States § Pennsylvania. - RevelationDirect (talk) 18:09, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Even a list is probably not needed. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:03, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Listify. The topic here is that this region was part of the Illinois Country (a.k.a. Upper Louisiana Territory), which was a part of New France, albeit scarcely populated. That's where and when these places got their name, they were not randomly given names in French at the whim of eccentric fantasists. A local culture developed (see e.g. article Missouri French), however extinct today. It is therefore wrong to say that there's really nothing French here except for the place names, as the history of these places (not just their name) connects them to France and the local French-American culture. The topic may be better served by a list than a category though. Note that the category was named French culture in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area until an undiscussed move in 2017. Also note the list at List of place names of French origin in the United States § Pennsylvania. Place Clichy (talk) 16:01, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. --Just N. (talk) 13:17, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Listify then delete -- There are a few names that derive from French penetration of this area in the decades before 1763. That would be a notable subject, but only merits a list, not a category. In sampling the list, I found a handful of articles to which this might apply, but far more were merely named after places in France (in one case Belgium), sometimes by immigrants from there. SHAREDNAME is not the accepted basis for a category. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:14, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Places named for John C. Calhoun‎[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: delete. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:24, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per WP:DEFINING (WP:SHAREDNAME)
U.S. Vice President and foremost slavery advocate John C. Calhoun had a number of locations named after him, although some have since been renamed due to that slavery part. Calhoun County, West Virginia, Calhoun County, Michigan, Grace Hopper College (formerly Calhoun College) and Bde Maka Ska (formerly Calhoun Lake) have nothing in common other than the name (or former name). The category is not defining and is classic WP:SHAREDNAME. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:30, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Background In the past, we've deleted similar categories here, here, here, here, here, and here. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:30, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. This sort of stuff usually belongs as either a list or as part of the "Legacy" section on the person's article. No need for a category. Grutness...wha? 02:27, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We already have a List of places named for John C. Calhoun article. - RevelationDirect (talk) 11:54, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:04, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom as useless trivia. If Queen Victoria can't have a category of places named after her, and rightfully so, John C. Calhoun can't either. Place Clichy (talk) 16:04, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. Just N. (talk) 13:18, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
