The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 10:56, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The general convention for American college sports is to drop "College" or "University" from the naming scheme for individual college teams, with some exceptions such as Boston College Eagles, as Boston College's teams are never called simply "Boston" or the "Boston Eagles". For the sports teams of Central College (Iowa), while the phrase "Central College Dutch" is sometimes used, "Central Dutch" is more common, and in structural listings the teams are simply called "Central", not "Central College". See the third-party sources cited in the templates found at Category:American Rivers Conference football standings templates and see the American Rivers Conference website, e.g. https://rollrivers.com/standings.aspx?standings=142. • Rename all per nom. Pretty uncontroversial in my opinion. Rikster2 (talk) 13:18, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment -- I hope there is no ambiguity with anything relating to the Netherlands. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:24, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fair point. However, while I am Dutch, I can't imagine that "Central Dutch football" would have any local meaning for Dutch soccer fans. Even less so with other sports. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:18, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: delete. MER-C 10:54, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale Per WP:SmallCat. Contains only 1 article. Unlikely to expand. No need for upmerging as it already has parents Category:Eastern Orthodox cathedrals in Jerusalem, Category:Russian Orthodox cathedrals in Israel, Category:Russian Orthodox cathedrals in the State of Palestine and Category:Russian Orthodox churches in Jerusalem. Laurel Lodged (talk) 18:18, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. In addition, each of the parent categories can be nominated to be upmerged. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:20, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete with only one cathedral currently there and little reason to think that there will be additional Russian Cathedrals built there, I think this one can be deleted. (However, note for other cities, that the Orthodox use of the word "Cathedral" is somewhat different from the Anglican/Catholic use, so there may be more than one Cathedral in a city and that's without even mentioning cases like NYC where because there are different Russian Orthodox jurisdiction now and in the past there are multiple Russian Orthodox Cathedrals.)--Jahaza (talk) 06:06, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete -- relying on the assurance that it is necessary to merge anything. There is unlikely to be another cathedral there. Peterkingiron (talk) 17:15, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 10:58, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename per WP:IRE-CATS, as all these institutions are actually in the Republic of Ireland. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:45, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Fine by me. Though I still dont think WP:IRE-CATS works. There are plenty of categories which dont have a republic sub category.Rathfelder (talk) 15:52, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support but without prejudice as to its later re-creation should an institution open in Northern Ireland. By the way, WP:IRE-CATS works: it's a Good Friday Agreement thing for the sake of peace and reconciliation. Laurel Lodged (talk) 18:29, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Distance education by country[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge/delete as nominated. MER-C 10:36, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: delete per WP:SMALLCAT and manually move the four articles in the eight above subcategories to the correct continent subcategory of Category:Distance education as well as their country education category. In most countries, apart from distance education institutions (which have their own subcategory), there is not enough content about this topic. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:27, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Rathfelder (talk) 15:54, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment/question: (Please ping me if there is an answer....) Is it really importance to Category:Distance education where it is happening? After all, it is distance education. Distance education institutions based in a country is a different matter. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 18:46, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Royal styles. MER-C 10:59, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: rename in order to align with main article Royal and noble styles. An alternative speedy rename proposal was opposed. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:23, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
discussion at CFDS
I guess a grammatical question? However, I'd be inclined to correct also the grammar of tte main article in accordance, to the best of my understanding, to contemporary English grammar? PPEMES (talk) 12:42, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • The article title is not currently discussed, so C2D implies supporting Armbrust's alternative. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:46, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • MOS:SERIAL says either convention for commas may be followed (usage within a page must be consistent). My personal preference would be to rename the article, removing the serial comma. However, I oppose speedy renaming to match that article, since it would widen the scope of the category. I have demoted the standing of the article on the category page by using {{cat more}} rather than {{cat main}}. I suggest instead a full CFR to "Royal styles". – Fayenatic London 21:58, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have boldly moved the article back to Royal and noble styles (its name until boldly moved by PPEMES in Dec 2018; Dicklyon moved it again in April 2019, inserting the serial comma). – Fayenatic London 09:40, 1 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Rename but to Category:Royal styles. It is currently just for royal, not noble styles, and there is no need to change its scope. The fact that that the lead article has a wider scope does not require us to broaden the category. – Fayenatic London 15:44, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. MER-C 11:02, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: The 23rd Knesset election will be held on March 2, 2020 as can be seen at 2020 Israeli legislative election. A few days after that the members are sworn in. This means the end date for the 22nd is known. Gonnym (talk) 11:06, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. But maybe we should have a speedy process for issues of this sort? Rathfelder (talk) 15:56, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Introducing a new speedy process sounds like a good idea, but for this case I would rather prefer renaming by March 2 rather than right now. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:58, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wait for March 2, 2020. Anything else is crystal ball gazing. Laurel Lodged (talk) 18:33, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support No issue with crystal ball gazing as the 22nd Knesset has already been dissolved and an election date set. Number 57 23:06, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: do not rename. MER-C 11:04, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Previous discussion was closed as no consensus, but now the rationale to rename is strong: to follow the established pattern for subcategories of Category:Television stations in Virginia. (See Category:Television stations in the Hampton Roads market‎ and Category:Television stations in the Bluefield–Beckley–Oak Hill market.) Senator2029 “Talk” 06:44, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: no consensus. MER-C 20:50, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: This is the common practice in categories of ethnic groups. See for example Category:Romanian people (not "Romanians") or Category:Aromanian people (not "Aromanians"). Super Ψ Dro 14:00, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, MER-C 03:03, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Senator2029, that's against the common practice, the categories I mentioned above have "people" in their name but the main articles don't. Super Ψ Dro 18:34, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, "people" categories are meant for biographies, while there is currently only one biography in this category. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:25, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Marcocapelle, doesn't "Istro-Romanians" also refer to the people? And the number of Istro-Romanian biographies cannot really be greatly increased (there are currently 2), they have always been a small ethnic group and therefore there are few notable Istro-Romanians. Super Ψ Dro 18:34, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It must be an exception, because many other ethnicities only have one category that contains "people" in its name (for example Category:Kurdish people, Category:Berber people, Category:Tibetan people, Category:Basque people, Category:Chechen people, I intentionally mentioned stateless ethnic groups).
