[edit]Category:Athletic history of Thessalonica
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: Merge. Timrollpickering 08:19, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Athletic history of Thessalonica to Category:Sport in Thessaloniki
- Nominator's rationale: merge, there aren't any specific history articles in this category. Marcocapelle (talk) 11:09, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support not a meaningful distinction here. @Marcocapelle: do you think it's worth including the parent Category:Athletic history of Greek Macedonia into this nom on the same basis? SFB 15:29, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- The parent category will naturally become empty when both the merger of this nomination and the merger at the bottom of the page get consensus. Marcocapelle (talk) 16:30, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

Category:Steam Greenlight games
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: No consensus. Timrollpickering 21:08, 19 July 2018 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Generally unverifiable therefore original research. Also, not all games that are on Steam went through Steam Greenlight so this category doesn't contain all Steam games either. wumbolo ^^^ 08:11, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Keep Thirdparty coverage of these games will generally note having gone through the Greenlight process (a process which no longer is active but had been used to allow user-voted games to be deemed appropriate to include on Steam, so there was recognizition needed for these games). The second aspect doesn't make sense. It's not meant to contain all Steam games (which would be too large and inappropriate), only the subset that actually got onto Steam as cleared by Greenlight. --Masem (t) 12:31, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete per WP:NONDEF, while checking the articles in this category it seems like this is an only minor characteristic of these games. No objection against listification. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:37, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Keep. This is clearly verifiable ("not verified for a particular game" = a sourcing problem at that particular article). Steam (software)#Steam Greenlight is an entire section and potentially could be a split-off article. This might or might not be defining, but subcats do not have to be defining, and are a sometimes arbitrary, just to split up a large category. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 19:05, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Category:Video games is not an overpopulated category that needs a split up. Marcocapelle (talk) 12:39, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete as non-defining; per Marcocapelle. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:13, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
- Keep - It's not too hard to verify the subject as being either on greenlight, or not. Nothing particularly wrong with having a category for games that went through Greenlight. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 09:14, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
- Keep - sources generally mention if a game went through the Greenlight process, making it a characteristic of the game, so I disagree with the OP. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 10:22, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Dissident93: I looked at several games in the category, and couln't find any mention of Greenlight in them. wumbolo ^^^ 04:05, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- That's more of an issue with the articles lacking information. If you searched for sources about them, I'm fairly confident the majority would mention the fact they were on Greenlight. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 04:41, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- I meant to say the sources. I didn't find any Greenlight information in sources. wumbolo ^^^ 12:21, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

- Comment, I think nobody involved in this discussion denied it is not a defining characteristic. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:40, 24 June 2018 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 06:06, 3 June 2018 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: This seems to be a concept invented by the article creator. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 07:55, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support Not a clear characteristic. SFB 15:36, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Smash Bros and the games listed in the cat are not traditional like Tekken or Street Fighter, there should be a division. Jamesdenn (talk) 16:01, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- I.e., "seems to be a concept invented" by you, and "not a clear characteristic". — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 19:01, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete per the above. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 19:01, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Delete unclear thus SUBJ or OR; moreover, we tend not to categorize things as what they are not; here defined as "Fighting games that do not follow Street Fighter II semantics." Thus if we could be clear, probably not defining. Maybe we need categories like games that have protagonists not named Mario or Luigi? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:16, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: Merge/rename. Timrollpickering 08:14, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Prehistory of Greek Macedonia to Category:Prehistory of Macedonia (region) and purge the museums
- Propose renaming Category:Neolithic Macedonia (Greece) to Category:Neolithic Macedonia (region)
- Propose renaming Category:Neolithic settlements in Macedonia (Greece) to Category:Neolithic settlements in Macedonia (region)
- Propose merging Category:Ancient-era Macedonia (Greece) to Category:Ancient Macedonia and purge the museums subcat
- Propose merging Category:Ancient athletes of Greek Macedonia to Category:Ancient Macedonian athletes
- Propose merging Category:Medieval Macedonia (Greece) to Category:Medieval Macedonia and purge the museums and archaeological sites subcats
- Propose merging Category:Ottoman-era Macedonia (Greece) to Category:Macedonia under the Ottoman Empire
- Nominator's rationale: merge/rename anachronistic categories. Macedonia (Greece) only exists since 1913. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:29, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support per nom. SFB 15:35, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- Beware minefields -- Macedonia was in effect partitioned between Greece and Serbia in the Balkan wars. I see no objection to using "Greek Macedonia" when we want to refer to the present Greek province,as opposed to Republic of Macedonia. Before that we should use contemporary polities. For the classical period, that means Macedonia (or ancient Macedonia) should refer to the original kingdom of Philip and Alexander, with Thessaly to the north. Before that I assume that we just do not know boundaries, so that Category:Neolithic sites in Greek Macedonia would have to be accepted. Peterkingiron (talk) 08:48, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- Support it seems there was no partition of Macedonia prior to the late 19th or early 20th century. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:18, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
- Comment see also a similar nomination regarding the Blagoevgrad Province in Bulgaria. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:53, 29 May 2018 (UTC)
- Comment - we should be guided by the common practice in this regard. We mainly use category:national prehistory in regard to modern states but rarely also regions, so support most in principle. Exceptions: Category:Neolithic Macedonia (Greece) to be merged into Category:Neolithic Greece; Category:Neolithic settlements in Macedonia (Greece) merge into Category:Neolithic sites in Greece.GreyShark (dibra) 11:04, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
