The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:52, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: To make clear that this category (and hence its subcats) is for Wikipedians (i.e. user pages), e.g. not for files. This is a child of Category:Wikipedians by Wikipedia contribution licensing. I'm open to suggestions for alternative names. DexDor (talk) 20:14, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2008–14 MISL team articles[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:11, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Rename as the MISL III is now defunct, and for consistency with Category:Major Indoor Soccer League (1978–92) and Category:Major Indoor Soccer League (2001–08). Dravecky (talk) 17:01, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Wichita per nomination. RevelationDirect (talk) 08:46, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Question on Baltimore @Dravecky: So, if I'm reading the article right, the Baltimore team will continue as the same organization with most of the same players but under a different league. Is this nomination is to make sure the player cats roll up into the correct league? RevelationDirect (talk) 08:46, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Reply: Yes. Baltimore (like so many arena soccer teams) has outlived many leagues and the player categories are divided by league affiliation. The change in leagues invalidated all of Baltimore's MISL player contracts so a new roster (with some returning players) is being assembled. Once the roster for 2014–15 is finalized, a new "Category:Baltimore Blast (MASL) players" will be added. - Dravecky (talk) 17:11, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update: And now the league article is at Major Indoor Soccer League (2008–14) to match its earlier incarnations. - Dravecky (talk) 08:13, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-Roman Gaul[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:49, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Rename. Follow-up to Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2014 September 5#Category:Ancient Gaul. The second is not eligible for speedy as I have proposed removing "native", which seems unnecessary. – Fayenatic London 16:10, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Prelates[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:47, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Merge. This will only contain Category:Roman Catholic titular prelates by type if the discussion at September 27 is approved. – Fayenatic London 14:18, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Only relevant in a RC context. Otherwise the term is synonymous with bishops. Keep with common usage. Laurel Lodged (talk) 19:19, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:14, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support to distinguish from Anglican Prelates, like Rowan Williams. RevelationDirect (talk) 08:51, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support prelates has other uses as noted by Laurel Lodged. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 16:53, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Empty manually then delete -- We need to ensure that the articles all end off with an appropriate category, but "prelate" is generally a vague term. There seem to be several types of prelatures in the RC Church. Do these need to be merged, as there do not seem to be enough to make a good category? Some seem to be appointments to an emerging diocese. Several seem to be linked to appointment to a titular see. Peterkingiron (talk) 12:42, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:50, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Per the names of the rest of the categories related to Washington (state) עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:50, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as Washington may be ambiguous. SFB 19:26, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Roman Catholic titular bishops in France[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:French titular bishops‎, despite a slight preference below for the other suggestion, to match all others in Category:Roman Catholic titular bishops. – Fayenatic London 09:35, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: It's more meaningful to categorize based on nationality instead of based on country, as these bishops may live and work outside France. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:47, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. Laurel Lodged (talk) 19:27, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support to match actual usage. RevelationDirect (talk) 08:54, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • At second thought it could even be a better alternative to rename to Category:French titular bishops‎, since all French titular bishops are Roman Catholic anyway. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:36, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support either of the nom's proposals, he is correct in the statement above, which makes the "Roman Catholic" unnecessary - whether it's still better with it I'm 50/50 on - but the current title is misleading or ambiguous or both: are the bishops in France? their titular sees in France? when they go to Malawi or Rome for whatever reason are they still "in France"? Anyway, please change. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:00, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Alternative To keep the denomination clear. (Note that this is my second vote.) RevelationDirect (talk) 19:33, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep -- The important thing is not nationality, but where they served or mainly served. Titular sees are "in pars infidelum", usually in areas that belonged to the Orthodox church after the schism. I would be surpised if any of the titular sees were in France. The result of the discussion was: delete. I will re-parent the contents where required. – Fayenatic London 08:49, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: WP:OVERLAPCAT, overlaps with Category:Anglican bishops by diocese in Europe and Category:Anglican bishops by diocese in Asia. Marcocapelle (talk) 07:45, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would suggest to have it in the Asia and in the Africa category. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:11, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Churches in Romania by denomination[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 01:44, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Churches in Romania is the only entry of Church buildings in Romania, so one of the two categorization layers is redundant. Note that there is not a consistent use of terminology in this tree, the terms 'churches' and 'church buildings' are alternated. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:48, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Major Indoor Soccer League (2008–) categories[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Major Indoor Soccer League (2008–14) etc. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:09, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Nominator's rationale: Rename. Main article is now at Major Indoor Soccer League (2008–2014), as the league is now defunct and its teams merged into a rival league. Powers T 01:37, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Genocide victims[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was: rename per nom. Although opinions are divided, I find Carlossuarez46's argument persuasive. – Fayenatic London 14:29, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rename per Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2014_April_25#Category:Cambodian_Genocide_victims. Hoops gza (talk) 01:28, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Purge Question Will this also require a purge of those who were harmed but survived? (I can start clicking through the articles but I thought you might know offhand.) RevelationDirect (talk) 09:05, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Nope. All of the people in these categories died during the genocides. - Hoops gza (talk) 15:37, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Armenian Genocide victims just about conveys the same idea in much more simple wording. Étienne Dolet (talk) 18:07, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • No, it doesn't. Not all victims of genocide are killed, necessarily. Survivors of genocide are also victims. - Hoops gza (talk) 00:51, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
      • There's a difference from dying to being killed during a genocide. Not all those who "die" during a genocide necessarily die from murder. Many Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians simply died from starvation. Hence, if the wording of the category becomes something like, People who were killed in the Armenian Genocide, I may throw in a support vote. But I still would like to think about this further. Étienne Dolet (talk) 06:31, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
        • The only defining way to have the category is whether people die or survive. - Hoops gza (talk) 10:57, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support fleeing and becoming a refugee is a possible victimhood with a genocide. This name is clearer and matches actual usage. RevelationDirect (talk) 02:45, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Again, I'll only support if it's "People who were killed in the..." I think it's better that way. Étienne Dolet (talk) 19:40, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Etienne In the case where the death is intentional, "killed by" is used (see Category:People killed in World War II for example). We are specifically looking at genocide here, so if the people simply died and were not killed, then they are not victims of genocide by definition. Genocide requires intention to kill. Rather than following current arrangement, I propose revisiting the whole of Category:Genocide victims, whose children are often parented by "murder" and "killed" categories. SFB 19:37, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support whether people were killed actively or passively is not distinguishing. By SFB's definition, Anne Frank was not a victim of the holocaust or of genocide as she died of disease. But, whether people are killed directly or by being worked or starved to death in camps is not a distinguishing difference. Armenians who were uprooted and sent into the desert to starve were victims of the same policies as those who were shot or hanged on the way. The statement that "if the people simply died and were not killed, then they are not victims of genocide by definition" made above reflects a profound misunderstanding of the means and methods of genocide. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:05, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as Category:People killed in the Armenian Genocide, etc. I do not think it matters whehter they were marched into a desert and left to die of thirst or were the victim of a direct killing. They were all killed in the Genocide. All three were the result of policy by the Ottoman Empire (not the present Turkey). The present Turkey should not need to see itslef as any more (or less) responsible for the events than the present Feeral Republic of Germany is for the Nazi holocaust against Jews, Gyspies, and Blacks. I think it is unhelpful to have them in a "killed by" parent, unless clearly linked to a former state. Peterkingiron (talk) 13:15, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: Simple wording is preferred when naming categories.Alexikoua (talk) 07:34, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
