- The result of the discussion was: merge. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:59, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Propose merging Category:Guardians to Category:Gobots
- Nominator's rationale: Merge. Not every fictional faction of every fictional robot gang needs to be broken out separately from the rest. If kept it needs to be renamed to Category:Guardians (Gobots) since the current name is highly ambiguous. Jerry Pepsi (talk) 23:33, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Merge -- WE really ought not to have multiple categories for a single fictional work or franchise, save exceptionally. The present name is certainly misleading. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:01, 16 November 2013 (UTC)

Category:Characters by species
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Fictional characters by species; there is no consensus on the choice of 'species' versus 'classification' and it may be useful to revisit this issue. -- Black Falcon (talk) 20:07, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Characters by species to Category:Fictional characters by classification
- Nominator's rationale: Nominating on behalf of 173.51.29.188, who had requested a rename through RM. His or her argument, which is also available on the category talk page, was: "Should be consistent with other Category:Fictional characters." This is a procedural nomination; I am neutral. BDD (talk) 17:23, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- I'm puzzled by the notion that angels and dwarves and such are "species". Jerry Pepsi (talk) 23:51, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Dwarves are a well-established species in many sorts of fantasy settings.
- rename This is better/more clear. Perhaps Jerry would prefer Fictional characters by Kingdom|Kingdom_(biology)? Species suffices, I think, in the vernacular to capture what we mean.--Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 00:42, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- Which of the two rename options are you supporting? - The Bushranger One ping only 00:17, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- rename not ideal, and "species" is odd nomenclature and the definition is not followed if we consider various Star Trek humanoids (e.g., Vulcans) that can intermate with humans (producing Spock for example) are, by normal definitions of "species", the same species as humans. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 03:49, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- Blue-winged Warbler and Golden-winged Warbler are both species by the normal definition of "species", and yet Brewster's Warbler, their hybrid, is a thing. It's species that aren't in the same genus that can't (usually) interbreed; seperate species can and do (in your example, Vulcans might well be Homo vulcanis.) Also, which of the two rename options are you supporting? - The Bushranger One ping only 00:17, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- rename to the second. "Species" is a perfectly reasonable and logical term for use in this case, although the category's actual contents are in line with "by classification". - The Bushranger One ping only

- The result of the discussion was: rename. Good Ol’factory (talk) 23:56, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Stations of Haqi Passenger Railway to Category:Stations on the Harbin–Qiqihar Passenger Railway
- Propose renaming Category:Stations of Suiyu Railway to Category:Stations on the Suining–Chongqing Railway
- Propose renaming Category:Stations of Liunan Intercity Railway to Category:Stations on the Liuzhou–Nanning Intercity Railway
- Propose renaming Category:Stations of Jingzhang Intercity Railway to Category:Stations on the Beijing–Zhangjiakou Passenger Railway
- Propose renaming Category:Stations on the Pingyan Railway to Category:Stations on the Pinghu–Yantian Railway
- Nominator's rationale: Looking at Category:Railway stations in China by line it looks like these are the correct names of the railway lines. I opposed these at speedy nomination, because the main articles doesn't exist. Armbrust The Homunculus 15:03, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

Category:Caribbean countries
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: rename to Category:Countries in the Caribbean. -- Black Falcon (talk) 20:11, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
- Propose renaming Category:Caribbean countries to Category:Countries in the Caribbean
- or to Category:Island countries in the Caribbean or Category:Countries of the Caribbean (which would match Commons) etc
- Nominator's rationale: Consistency (of category name and scope) with most similar categories (e.g. Category:Countries in Central America) - under the new name it should not contain countries (both subcats and articles) that merely border the Caribbean (e.g. Mexico), European countries that merely have a dependent territory in the Caribbean (e.g. France) and things that aren't countries (e.g. Puerto Rico - see the category's talk page). Note: If (after a few days) it looks as if this CFD will succeed then it may be best to create the new category (as a subcat of the existing category), move suitable articles/subcats down into it and change this into a delete CFD - that way articles like Netherlands aren't temporarily wrongly categorized and only get changed once. For info: A parent Category:Countries bordering water bodies might be deleted at some point in the future (see Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2013_November_6#Category:Countries_bordering_the_Atlantic_Ocean). DexDor (talk) 05:58, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- comment nomination misses certain facts, such as that various European countries have component parts of themselves (provinces, not colonies) in the Caribbean and are thus a Caribbean country. Hmains (talk) 06:06, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Prefer -- Category:Countries of the Caribbean. The fact that Puerto Rico is a territory and a few other islands remain dependencies of an external state can be covered in a headnote, explaining that it includes such territories. "Country" can be treated as being slightly broader than "nation". Peterkingiron (talk) 17:43, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- rename per nom to Category:Countries in the Caribbean - per this search, "Countries in" is a pretty standard way here, especially for sub-continental groupings like the Caribbean.--Obi-Wan Kenobi (talk) 00:23, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- comment and it would continue to have the same unchanged content as it has now. Not just the islands, but the continent bordering countries. They are all part of the Caribbean area by geography, culture, trade, etc. Hmains (talk) 03:35, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Countries in the Caribbean. - The Bushranger One ping only 00:18, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Countries in the Caribbean. - Caribbean vacations are often taken in Mexico. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 04:57, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:Countries of the Caribbean which matches usage elsewhere, clarifies the inclusion criteria and serves as an appropriate parent for Category:Pirates of the Caribbean. Alansohn (talk) 15:55, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
