Category:Political repression in Czechoslovakia (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: I've never nominated a category for deletion anymore, but this seems very POV not to mention an unnecessary addition. Who says what classifies as "political repression"? The DominatorTalkEdits 22:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please see article political repression. We have a Category:Political repressions by country. It was underpopulated. So, I was going through a number of different countries. But your concern is probably different. You doubt if article Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia belongs to this category. If that is the case, you should discussed this at talk page of the article, rather than nominate a category for deletion. As usual, this is per sources. Is sources claim that suppression of Prague Spring was a political repression, it belongs there. If not, it does not.Biophys (talk) 22:58, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comment In that case I wish to nominate the entire "Category:Political repressions by country" for deletion for the reasons above. The DominatorTalkEdits 23:09, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment OK, deletion is not a good solution, but I would like some firmer criteria on what classifies as "political repression". After all, this is Categories for discussion so I withdraw the deletion nomination, but I still challenge this category along with the entire "political repression" category. The DominatorTalkEdits 23:22, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Some categories are controversial like Category:Genocide. As always we should use reliable sources to resolve this.Ultramarine (talk) 23:37, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are still situations where it is uncertain, what if an event was covered by a few sources but hasn't actually been called political repression? I suggest a renaming to Category:Political incidents by country, this I think is less POV as it can include anything political without specifically calling it "repression", or is that too broad? The DominatorTalkEdits 00:39, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please look at Category:Political repression in the Soviet Union and all its subcategories. All of that was called "political repression" in numerous academic sources - books, articles, and so on. One could create a category "Political incidents" as you suggested, but that would be a much wider category. It would include numerous political scandals that are not repression. That is why we should use well established terminology such as "political repression".Biophys (talk) 00:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Point taken, but I'm sure these categories could be misused, I'm sure there are articles in those categories that are not called political repressions by reliable sources. Just for the record, I don't disagree with the placement of the category in Prague Spring as I'm sure it has been called a repression in RSs; the category just came of as one that could easily be abused for POV and I wonder if the articles in the categories are all classified as "political repressions" in Reliable Sources. The DominatorTalkEdits 01:05, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You are right, I am sure that some articles and even sub-categories are not properly categorized, especially in Category:Political repression in the United States. That should be fixed by looking at the corresponding individual articles, as would be with any other category. One problem here is that "Political repressions in Nazi Germany" (for example) and "Political repressions by Nazi Germany" are different things (some repressions have been committed by Nazi Germany, but not at the territory of Nazi Germany). Same thing with the Soviet Union. But that would lead to creation of even more categories which might be regarded as "POV".Biophys (talk) 01:24, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps a better category would be "Political repression in communist Czechoslovakia". That is something I would certainly agree with.Biophys (talk) 01:50, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, though I'd like you (and me if you like) to look through the cats and weed out any inappropriate articles. The DominatorTalkEdits 03:22, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Anyone is welcome to do that per WP rules. Actually, I would not object to delete this Czechoslovakia sub-category because it is underpopulated.Biophys (talk) 13:47, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • rename to "Political repression in communist Czechoslovakia" which is what the articles and subcats reflect. Not enough articles? Work on it by improvement. Forget the lazy, easy way out: delete this, delete that, etc etc. Hmains (talk) 02:50, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Propose renaming
Nominator's rationale: to match article page name St. Mirren F.C.; club's official site uses both names (with and without the dot) as well as 'Saint', however St/St. is more commonly used Mayumashu (talk) 17:44, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Xena: Warrior Princess Locations (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Nominator's rationale: Inappropriate and unnecessary category. Xena has enough categories, and there are only two articles (one of which the category creator created and is now in AfD, the other of which will likely be in AfD soon). Collectonian (talk) 16:46, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. Only two such programs listed. Not sure if the ones listed will pass muster at AfD or if any of these programs are in fact notable. The main article is probably the only notable article for the foreseeable future. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:46, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator's rationale: Rename. Hikaru is her given name; Utada is her family name. The article Hikaru Utada was recently moved to the standard GnFn order, so, the category should be renamed to match. Neier (talk) 08:35, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest merging Category:Jazz samba musicians to Category:Bossa nova musicians
Suggest merging Category:Jazz samba singers to Category:Bossa nova singers
Suggest merging Category:Jazz samba drummers to Category:Bossa nova drummers
Suggest merging Category:Jazz samba guitarists to Category:Bossa nova guitarists
Suggest merging Category:Jazz samba pianists to Category:Bossa nova pianists
Nominator's rationale: Merge:Jazz samba is not a genre but bossa nova is and the latter is a fusion of jazz and samba. The same should go for all subcategories. Munci (talk) 00:19, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
