- Redirect Appears to be a valid subgenus of Polymixis; however, consists of only one species [1], for which we already have an article. It seems that both classifications with and without the subgenus are being used. So, suggest redirecting to Polymixis xanthomista and noting the alternate usage there. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 17:15, 25 December 2023 (UTC)
- Please note that according to ICZN Article 42 and 56, the same nomenclatural principles should be applied to all genus-group taxa (including genera and subgenera). A subgenus (which was described latterly) could not be named the same as a genus. This is quite different from the case of Ensifera, which is a suborder for insects and a genus for birds. ——🦝 The Interaccoonale Will be the raccoon race (talk・contribs) 09:14, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
- I'll take your word for it, however it is not our ambit to police the correct use of the nomenclature guidelines in the literature. The sources I have seen so far report this as a valid subgenus, and we should follow that. I don't see that it's our business to treat it otherwise unless some taxonomic authority chooses to take issue with the classification in print. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 16:54, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
