Basically a content fork of Australia (continent). All content easily covered there or at Oceania. BilCat (talk) 01:26, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete, I don't see a reason for this article when there's already Oceania, which goes into significant depth about the subject. PKT(alk) 01:30, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks, the main ref is indeed there, but nowhere in Wikipedia is Oceania called a continent, contrary to the source cited. fgnievinski (talk) 03:24, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: I can see how the continent of Oceania could be discussed in either the region of Oceania or in the continent of Australia; but since there was controversy of where Oceania (continent) should point to, and the subject is notable (albeit marginally so -- almost a fringe theory), I thought a stand-alone article could settle the issue. fgnievinski (talk) 03:24, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge into Oceania. While fgnievinski is right that the article doesn't currently directly mention the classification of Oceania as a continent, such content could easily be covered in Oceania, and readers would be better served by one comprehensive article about the term than by two articles that are about largely overlapping topics. I'm not sure I see the controversy regarding where Oceania (continent) should point to––if the content is merged to Oceania then it makes perfect sense to point it there. signed, Rosguill talk 06:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The major issue here is Oceania isn't a continent. It's sometimes mistakenly referred to as a continent. You either have it redirect to the actual continent in the region (Australia) or redirect to the region itself (Oceania.) I guess you could make an argument it's a human geography term. Fortunately the redirect isn't linked to by any pages. SportingFlyer T·C 06:21, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
IMO the answer to this issue is what I've already suggested: redirect to the article about the region, and include a section addressing the fringe theory and/or misconception about the region being a continent proper. signed, Rosguill talk 06:25, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's an evolving cultural construct. Fifty years ago there was a firm conceptualization of Oceania as a continent. Later it eroded, in favor of Australia as continent. This is so at least in the anglosphere, not so much in other languages and cultures, as a quick glance at es:Oceanía or fr:Océanie can attest. So it's not a matter of right or wrong, it's just that Wikipedia shouldn't swipe under the rug that Oceania has been considered a continent. fgnievinski (talk) 15:14, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nom. The Oceania article covers this. Skirts89 (talk) 22:08, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete and redirect to Oceania I still am of opinion that this page should redirect to Oceania and it should be mentioned in the lead that Oceania is considered a continent by various educational system in various countries in the world. Civciv5 (talk) 01:16, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Per nom. Oceania article covers this. Britishfinance (talk) 22:23, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Obscure reference used that I can't see identifies even a continent of 'Oceania' (which isn't scientifically accurate anyways). The 'Oceania continent' has recently been geologically studied to be consisting of two continents Zealandia and Australia (continent). Not uniquely identifiable or notable from a 1960s reference. Additionally, the Oceania covers the Oceanic aspects. Aeonx (talk) 02:19, 10 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
