Wikipedia is not a memorial. This guy has died in action and his only media attraction was that single incident. He is by no mean notable by Wikipedia's measures. If we make articles for every fallen soldier, then we should build millions of likewise articles.--Professional Assassin (talk) 00:13, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment Fixed listing, please use {{afd2}} when creating an AfD page. Thanks, cab (talk) 00:28, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- OK. I didn't know that. :-)--Professional Assassin (talk) 00:45, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge/redirect to Tarnak Farm incident. Same goes for the three articles about the others killed. THF (talk) 01:47, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Redirect, as with the other three articles. Wikipedia is not a memorial to individual deceased service personnel. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:17, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep, the assessment "his only media attraction was that single incident" does not stand up to a simple web search or the article text. Some touch-up may be required on the article text as it stands. Léger was noted for his activities in Bosnia, not related to Afghanistan incident. --Big_iron (talk) 10:21, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- It is extremely unlikely that a sergeant (or a master corporal, as he apparently was at the time he served in Bosnia) would be considered notable unless he had received his country's highest decoration or at least two lower-level decorations. As it is, this article seems to be written like a eulogy for a man who was no doubt courageous and locally notable in a small area of Bosnia, but who does not meet the Wikipedia notability bar. What he did is admirable, but does not make him in any way unique among the soldiers serving in Bosnia. I could find a dozen or more similar stories by browsing back issues of Britain's Soldier magazine, for example - they are simply not notable enough for articles. Local notability does not generally qualify. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:50, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment, while I agree that perhaps this article should redirect to the Tarnak Farm incident, there's a certain notability in being the first casualty since the Korean War; I note that there are similar, though shorter, bios on the others killed there which do not yet have AfDs:
- Marc Leger and the three other soldiers who were killed were the first Canadian combat casualties since the Korean War. The other paratroopers that were killed that night were: Corporal Ainsworth Dyer, Age: 24, Montreal, Quebec. Private Richard Green, Age: 21, Mill Cove, Nova Scotia. Private Nathan Smith, Age: 27, Porters Lake, Nova Scotia.
- Redirect to the Tarnak Farm incident article. I agree with the comments of the nominator; dying does not necessarily make a person notable. It is notable that this incident caused the first Canadian combat casualties in fifty years, and that information should be included in the article on the incident. The other three soldiers who were killed during the incident and have articles should be redirected as well. --NormanEinstein (talk) 14:46, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Redirect to Tarnak Farm incident per above for the same reasons. Incidentally, this reads like a memorial speech, not a biographical article. Resolute 21:53, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment, there is a lot of unsourced and unencyclopedic material in this article, and that's the stuff that indisputably shouldn't be in Wikipedia as opposed to the article itself, which is disputable. I think it is good practice to cut all of that stuff out of the article (or cite it properly) and THEN have a deletion discussion, since then it comes down to just a decision on notability. Also, it would reflect proper priorities since Wikipedia's biggest problem is not the sheer number of bios but the amount of unencyclopedic material in so many of them. I know it may seem easier to just delete wholesale but given the time and energy spend on AfD discussions for marginal cases I doubt that any time is really saved by trying for full delete.Bdell555 (talk) 01:45, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Didn't we already have an AFD which closed as redirecting all four of these soldiers to Tarnak Farm incident, like, four or five years ago? It's not as though the articles have been improved any since then, either, so there's no strong case to be made that consensus and/or proof of notability has changed at all. Re-redirect all four to Tarnak Farm incident like we shoulda the first time. But also, agreed with Skookum1 that categories which more properly contain the individual names (such as "Canadian military personnel killed in action") should indeed be placed on the individual redirects rather than the merge target.
