The person in question sounds commendable, and his death tragic, but unfortunately, he does not appear to meet the notability standards of WP:BIO. Vicenarian (Said · Done) 18:55, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per nomination. An early promotion to Major might be notable but would still fail WP:ONEEVENT. De728631 (talk) 19:00, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment I created the article. When I was working on another, unsourced article (about Chandanwadi, Thane), the Major's death and posthumous Gallantry award was one of the references I found. I thought that I would create the article. If the article is kept and improved by someone more knowledgeable about the subject, I'd be happy - if the decision is to delete, I won't be worried. My vote, then, is neutral! -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 19:56, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Commendable work! However, having looked at the sources and reading over WP:BIO, I think the late gallant gentleman is certainly commendable, but not notable enough for inclusion. Cheers, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 19:59, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I have left a note on the talk page for WikiProject India (Wikipedia talk:Noticeboard for India-related topics) - if one of their project members can improve the article, then they can. Having re-read my article, and the sources, I am inclined to agree with you, Vicenarian and De728631, but suggest we give WikiProject India the remaining 6 days before the AfD expires to improve the article.
If no one has improved it by Saturday, I'll add a delete vote here!-- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:20, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete NOT MEMORIAL. DGG (talk)
- Keep Kirti Charkra awardee. As the second highest peacetime award to military personel in India this one definetely deserves a Wikipedia article. --Deepak D'Souza 07:45, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment This shows that only 34 Indian Air Force have received this award since inception in 1952 and this says that only five people got it in 2007. It appears to be a rather selective award and it should at least considered to be as notable as AVN Awards. I think merging to a new List of Kirti Chakra awardees might be an appropriate solution for now. -SpacemanSpiffCalvin‡Hobbes 16:41, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I think that's a fair solution, SpacemanSpiff! If at the end of the AfD process, should the result be Delete, then perhaps this could be done. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 20:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete and merge can't be done together, our licensing terms require that a merge means that the page is kept and after the content is moved, the resulting redirect is maintained. Alternately, the page can be moved to the new title, and the resulting redirect deleted; but the history has to be saved. -SpacemanSpiffCalvin‡Hobbes 22:17, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep He won a high ranking award for gallantry. Why that seems to rank lower than porn film awards for notability is beyond me. Nick mallory (talk) 14:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep As a recipient of India's second-highest award for gallantry in peace time, I think he is notable enough to warrant an entry. As SpacemanSpiff says, this isn't awarded a great deal, and so I would consider this noteworthy. -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 15:32, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Nomination Withdrawn based on presented arguments. Thanks, Vicenarian (Said · Done) 15:35, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
