I redirected this article to List of heads of state of Sri Lanka as I believe that as it stands it is a duplicate of that article. Everything is there already. Is there enough of a rationale to have this article as well? Acting Presidents unsourced. Really doesn't merit a stand-alone article, where majority of them have a tenure of one or two days. Could be merged to president of Sri Lanka and List of heads of state of Sri Lanka. Uggdf (talk) 07:10, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Not really sure what you mean by "Acting Presidents unsourced", as the only president described in the list as "acting", as far as I can tell, is Dingiri Banda Wijetunga; the claim that he first served as acting President before being sworn in as full president is backed up by the source in the article (though it needs to be archived). In addition, judging by your statement that you "redirected this article to List of heads of state of Sri Lanka", it seems fair to assume you are one of the anonymous IP editors who made the WP:BOLD edit to make the page a redirect to List of heads of state of Sri Lanka. That's a fine edit, probably the direction this discussion will head, but I'm a little bit bothered that the proposal was never brought to the article's talk page; instead, that edit was made and reverted four times, with no one trying to talk about it. I will also note that this list of presidents "is a duplicate" of part of the list of heads of state only because the bulk of the text of list of presidents was copied into the list of heads of state article (with attribution, everything above-board). Finally, should involved editors be notified about this? For instance, those who made and reverted the relevant edits? Apologies if I messed anything up in my analysis. Keep for below given reasons,
1. List of heads of state of Sri Lanka is the content fork.
  - List of presidents of Sri Lanka - Created on 8 November 2003
  - List of heads of state of Sri Lanka - Created on 6 August 2013
2. Consistency. Why only Sri Lanka? What about other contemporary republics? See List of republics. For example, List of heads of state of the United States is a red link.
3. Potential. List of presidents of India is an FL article. Yet List of heads of state of India also exists.
4. What about the head of government articles?
Should List of prime ministers of Sri Lanka, an FL article, should be redirected to List of heads of government of Sri Lanka? Chanaka L (talk) 16:42, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
- In that case perhaps this could be kept and the list of heads of state be converted to a sort of dab page between this and Governor-General of Ceylon, which is also partly duplicative. Special:Contributions/Uggdf tells us that the nominator has never edited either article, and its edit history tells us that the only person to have redirected this article is 2405:205:1203:A1C2::/64 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). Uncle G (talk) 09:16, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I believe Peter Ormond (talk · contribs) has redirected the article, as have 2409:4052:210e:7d21::1e5e:60a5 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) and the aforementioned 2405:205:1203:a1c2::91e:50a5 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), going by the edit history of List of presidents of Sri Lanka. See diff 1, diff 2, diff 3, diff 4. The nominator has said they have tried to redirect to List of heads of state of Sri Lanka, which seems to me to imply that they're one of the IP editors. I too noted the peculiarity of nominator's claim of them being the onw who redirected the page. Thought of filing an SPI, but decided to wait and observe for the moment.
