Lichess Titled Arena[edit]

An unjustified fork from Lichess and sourced only to the site which is the subject of the article. While discussion was limited, and those wanting inclusion of the content did not participate, a previous Rfc on the inclusion of this content did not achieve consensus that it should be included in the Lichess article, and now those wanting inclusion are circumventing discussion by creating a whole new article with this disputed content. In the chess world, online events such as this are considered of very minor importance even if world champion Magnus Carlsen participates in them. The event can be mentioned in the lichess article and a detailed list of results can be linked to on that site, but it doesn't belong on wikipedia. MaxBrowne2 (talk) 05:26, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Strong keep: Absolutely notable. Top chess players in the world. Continuously won by the greatest chess player in the world (arguably of all time). Plenty of coverage outside of lichess.         ?? The very first article is nearly all about the titled arena and discusses it in depth. Did you even click on any of these?? “ Lichess.org is a free, ad-less web platform for chess players, a favorite in the online chess community. On Dec. 14, 2017, the site held its first Titled Bullet Arena, an exclusive tourney for master-level players to play blisteringly fast one-minute games. Lichess’ decision to host top-tier tournaments was viewed by some as a great leap forward toward establishing chess as an esport. In that debut, Carlsen appeared incognito as “DannyTheDonkey” and won, donating his small prize money back to the website.

Carlsen’s first showing as DrDrunkenstein was in Lichess’ second Titled Arena the following month. DannyTheDonkey was missing, and the mysterious Drunkenstein soared to the top of the elite competition. Commentators soon started speculating that the world champion had returned. He won commandingly; Carlsen ended the two-hour match with a score of 199. His three closest rivals were two grandmasters and an international master, who scored 132, 120, and 111, respectively. Delete Anything substantial about these events is only sourced by Lichess itself. The Forbes source above is not about Lichess Titled Arena - it only mentions it in passing. --SubSeven (talk) 05:57, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Merge with Lichess. There is not all that much sourcing about the tournament itself, I did find this Slate article with some coverage. However, the players who are participating in this series of tournaments include the world elite, up to and including the current world chess champion. Chess tournaments involving players of that caliber merit coverage somewhere, and if no further sourcing is found, the hosting website is a reasonable place to do it. - This material has already been rejected from the main Lichess article (again, it's sourced only to Lichess itself), and this AfD wouldn't override that.
