WP:NRIVALRY says "Sports rivalries are not inherently notable" and defers to WP:GNG. GNG states "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list." Currently there are zero citations which reference the "rivarly," much less significant coverage. Therefore the rivalry claim is not currently established to GNG standards ("significant coverage") via existing citations. UW Dawgs (talk) 18:28, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

- Keep. WP:BEFORE identifies certain Google searches that should be undertaken before nominating an article for deletion. Here, even a basic google search turns up multiple, reliable sources addressing this as a rivalry. E.g., (1) "No ESPN, but JMU-Richmond still just as big", Sports Illustrated, 11/4/16; (2) "Tight games, high-energy atmospheres became norms for UR-JMU rivalry", Richmond Times-Dispatch, 11/8/17; (3) "Ties Run Deep With Dukes, Spiders", Daily News-Record, 11/11/17; (4) "James Madison fans use Robins statue to renew rivalry early", The Collegian, 11/3/16 (arguably not independent, but strong evidence of rivalry's intensity among student bodies); (5) "In ‘dream come true,’ College GameDay comes to Harrisonburg, JMU", WTOP, 10/23/15; (6) "JMU, Richmond ready for next chapter in football rivalry", The Breeze, 7/31/17 (arguably not independent, but good evidence of rivalry's reality among students at both schools). Other intangibles supporting true rivalry status include (i) in-state competion, (ii) close competition - 18 wins to 17; (iii) regularity (36 games in past 37 years); and (iv) hosting ESPN's College GameDay. - Keep - as noted by nom, GNG applies. GNG would certainly be satisfied by the sources (note, best sources will be unaccessible to some via GDPR) indicated above. It's not one of the truly globally known rivalries, but it's certainly significant and notable. Nosebagbear (talk) 20:49, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
- Keep per the evidence provided by Cbl62. Lepricavark (talk) 17:06, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
- Keep smaller school rivalry articles generally don't produce the coverage necessary for inclusion to pass WP:GNG, but this clearly seems to be an exception based on new coverage discovered. Great job Cbl62!--Paul McDonald (talk) 12:53, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
- Keep per Cbl62's sources. Meets WP:GNG. Ejgreen77 (talk) 23:12, 2 August 2018 (UTC)
