No evidence of notability. A lot of airmen were captured during WWII - nothing to indicate that this gentleman was particularly notable. His daughter (no WP article) has verifiably been inspired by his wartime activities in some of her paintings, and he is listed in a routine list of the achievements of his fighter group, but I see nothing of encyclopedic value here. Article was PRODded as "Google search turns up no references at all. Possibly a hoax." and dePRODded by creator with "I have removed the proposed deletion date as I work to add references and contributors who will be able to add valuable information to the article." The article is definitely not a hoax, as he verifiably existed, but I suggest that he just wasn't notable. PamD 21:09, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I then nominated it for BLPPROD myself after removing 2 "refs" to Wikipedia and establishing that the sole remaining ref didn't mention him; but then found and added a couple of refs which did indeed verify his existence so removed that BLPPROD. PamD 21:11, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also likely WP:COI: his daughter is Marilyn Phillips Johansen and the editor who started and is the sole substantial contributor to the article is "Lljohansen". PamD 21:09, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. Seems he's dead, so BLPPROD might not apply (yes, WP:BDP, is a question). He does not pass on WP:SOLDIER (not even close), article does not establish SIGCOV with sourcing there (nor any reason as to why he would've been covered) - and BEFORE doesn't show any more readily available sources.Icewhiz (talk) 08:47, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete - page 3 of this states that he is dead. There was a Eugene Phillips of Royston Georgia who is very likely to be suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia, but I don't think this figure is the same as that one. The honor roll link gives his middle initial as "F". Including that name in searches, I get a few articles at newspapers.com that seem to be about him that give him the rank of major.[1]. I also find a "Eugene F. Phillips, commander of the 498th Missile Maintenance Squadron", again not clearly the same person[2]. The report on his mission at Foggia says he was from Plymouth, Ohio. I also find a Eugene F. Phillips of Plymouth in newspaper articles who was a recruiting officer later in the war. None of these provides anything I would add to the article, nor did I find any leads from them to trace his life further. I don't think an article on a recently living individual with so little detail and sourcing can usually be truly NPOV and V. Smmurphy(Talk) 16:45, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - If Phillips was the former general who retired, he gets a page but I can't make a connection between General Phillips and the man who his daughter described (ref 2) as having died decades earlier and did not describe as having been a career officer (in spite of the news article (ref 3) having alluded to three wars). From what I read, there's no suggestion that he was involved in the escape.--Georgia Army Vet Contribs Talk 15:31, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete -- Unless he in fact has a notable subsequent career, he is NN. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:21, 24 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
