I think that we now are essentially asking for a level of notability that corresponds to being one of the leading departments in the world in the subject, and I don't think this is demonstrated. The University as a whole is not in any of the world lists discussed at College and university rankings. On this Asian list it's only no.110 & within India seems to rank #8 according to it's own web site [1]As for the subject field, On the India Today list [2] it's not one of the top 10 nor can I find it highly ranked on any other Indian list.
