Fails WP:NOTNEWS which state:--Wikipedia considers the enduring notability of persons and events
.All news coverage was restricted to around 10 days after the incident.
Post that, it died down to covering typical trivial-power-posturing of politicians including sending legal notices to one another and filing a case of defamation against another as to a comment made over the incident.
A month after, nil coverage is located. ∯WBGconverse 04:59, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

- Delete — Per nomination; has had almost no sustained coverage post the initial outbursts of "anger" from politicians of all sorts of parties. Regards, SshibumXZ (talk · contribs). 09:37, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- Keep - The incident was covered by major newspapers of West Bengal, all major national newspapers from India as well as Bangladeshi newspapers. There is sustained coverage of the incident as late as this week itself - ABP 23-Oct-18, ABP 22-Oct-18, Siliguri Times 22-Oct-18, The Telegraph 19-Oct-18, Frontline 10-Oct-18, Indian Express 9-Oct-18, The Echo Of India 5-Oct-18, The Telegraph 1-Oct-18. There are many more such news coverage. As this has widespread and sustained coverage it definitely passes WP:NOTNEWS. BengaliHindu (talk) 15:11, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- BengaliHindu, Siliguri Times is a local source. This mentions filing of a police-case and this covers a BJP plan to capture the issue to it's political motives by forming human chains and organising candle rallies in Islampur. ∯WBGconverse 16:43, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- Winged Blades of Godric First of all there are many such instances of sustained coverage. I gave only a few examples. One can search and find many more. Second, local source (for that matter any source) is always acceptable as long as it is reliable. Third, even if a news report is about a political party's political motives, it does prove sustained coverage on the topic. BengaliHindu (talk) 16:57, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- BengaliHindu, provide them. No, local sources are always assigned lesser weight. ∯WBGconverse 18:04, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

- Opposing WP:NOTNEWS: As per WP:NOTNEWS tag four points are needed to check and for that cases No. 3: “Who's who” and No. 4: “A diary” not applicable here. Anyways first two are also not relevant here because,
1. Original reporting - This is not original reporting, as this is already published by several reliable news providers in West Bengal, at all-India level and also in Bangladesh. Questioning on Times of India, Telegraph, Anandabazar Patrika is ridiculous.
2. Enduring notability - Leading Indian Newspaper covered the Derivit Case immediately and even after two weeks and more. Followed Links may help to ensure enduring notability. Sept 21 Sept 23 Sept 26 27 sept Oct 1 Oct 4 Oct 5
And many more.
So enduring notability should not be questioned.
3. Who's who - Not applicable.
4. A Diary - Not applicable .
So WP:NOTNEWS tag should be removed. Thanks. শক্তিশেল (talk) 16:31, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- শক্তিশেল, we are generally considering substantial mentions/coverage after months, when we wish to prove that it had passes NOTNEWS. ∯WBGconverse 16:44, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
- In last few comments pointed and given many resent links from leading news media and one of them covered last day. So enduring Notability is out of any questions. Once again pointing resent link from leading news media which covered yesterday. Covered by ABP on 23 oct 2018 . Thanks. শক্তিশেল (talk) 17:01, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

- Keep Passes WP:GNG. AlessandroTiandelli333 (talk) 16:46, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect to Language Movement, to which Bengali Language Movement currently redirects. There are many issues here, see Talk:Bengali language Movement (North Dinajpur)#Requested move 13 October 2018 which proposes moving to 2018 West Bengal Bengali teacher appointment protest for just some of them. There is also Bengali Language Movement in India. All of these articles (and possibly other related articles too) badly need work to remove political bias and inappropriate primary source citations, and what is needed is an article covering the whole movement both in what is now India and what is now Bangladesh. There is some content here that should be preserved to be part of that article, and a redirect will also preserve incoming external links. We can then work on other issues such as capitliasation in both titles and text, grammar... there is much to be done. Andrewa (talk) 19:20, 31 October 2018 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect to Language Movement. Currently the subject fails WP:NOTNEWS. After three-four months from now, if the subject receives coverage, and passes WP:NOTNEWS; it can be separated from Language Movement. Also per Andrewa. —usernamekiran(talk) 07:05, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- Keep and don't Merge: Bengali speaking people in India wants bengali in their education rights and official works. Since last 7 dacades, they put up their demand in various sectors, some times in educational institutions, some times for official works. All of them are documented in wikipedia separately. Like, Bengali Language Movement (Barak Valley), Bengali Language Movement (Manbhum). So, This page also must be documented separately with this recent title, i.e, Bengali language Movement (North Dinajpur) 🦁 শক্তিশেল ࿈ ⌨ 08:22, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
