Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Asian Rugby League Federation
- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the article below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the article's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this page.
The result was delete without prejudice to creating a redirect. There was clear consensus that the article at this title was not notable, and with discussion consensus developed that the proposed redirect target was unrelated. This means that the original purpose for redirecting the article - an alternative to deletion - cannot be met. Since no consensus developed as to whether to perform the redirect, anyone is welcome to create it as a regular editing decision, and deal with it as an ordinary redirect should there be any controversy. Contested PROD. Original concern was that the article was unreferenced.
There is no mention of this federation on the International Rugby League website, so it was either never recognised as an official body by the IRL, or it merged with the Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation at some point. Either way, I don't think it is notable enough for a stand-alone article. J Mo 101 (talk) 09:40, 18 June 2023 (UTC)

- Redirect to Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation per Wikipedia:Deletion policy#Alternatives to deletion. I did not find significant coverage in reliable sources about the subject. The article's first revision shows that it was originally about Asia-Pacific Rugby League Federation. Cunard (talk) 11:34, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- Redirect per the article history, and a helpful to the reader solution. Star Mississippi 13:51, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
- Delete, don't redirect. As far as I could determine there's no relation between the entities. The oldest version in the article being a copy of the other article was probably just (the bad practice of) the creator copying existing content to use as a temporary skeleton for a new article. Zero search results apart from business directory listings, which curiously show that the company later became a cafe business before closing down.[1] --Paul_012 (talk) 03:41, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: Asia-Pacific Rugby League Federation currently redirects to Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation. One of the sources in Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation is this article from The Age, which says, "A newly formed Asia-Pacific Rugby League Federation has been established, with its headquarters in Auckland, and each of the seven full-member nations will get a seat on its board." The article's discussion of Asia-Pacific Rugby League Federation refers to Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation.
As it makes sense for Asia-Pacific Rugby League Federation to redirect to Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation, I think it makes sense for Asian Rugby League Federation (with only the "-Pacific" omitted) to redirect to Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation.
I agree with the analysis that there is no relationship between the Brisbane, Australia–based Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation and the Singapore–based Asian Rugby League Federation, but I think a redirect based on the history of Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation's previous name still makes sense.

- Point noted, though I must disagree. Despite the name, the Asia-Pacific organization actually covers the southern hemisphere; redirecting would only add to the confusion in my opinion. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:20, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Redirect to Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation, do not delete. Fails WP:NSPORTS per above arguments. SBKSPP (talk) 02:07, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Delete: No evidence that Asian Rugby League Federation merged with Asia-Pacific, the article is unreferenced and the "official" website given doesn't actually exist, and the IRL do not list it as ones of its 4 confederations. Mn1548 (talk) 13:26, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Views are split between deleting and redirecting. More discussion on the suitability of a redirect needed.

- To expand on my earlier comment, redirecting would be highly misleading, as they were clearly different organisations that had nothing to do with each other. --Paul_012 (talk) 02:14, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
