The result was keep. Consensus is clear that, whatever is true of this kind of article in general, this particular one meets GNG. (non-admin closure) Smartyllama (talk) 19:17, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

This is article lacks WP:SUSTAINED coverage. Wikipedia is WP:NOTNEWS. The team itself finished in 5th place overall and had no discernible impact beyond participating in this tournament. User:Namiba 13:28, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

- Keep There are multiple other articles, such as 2019 United States FIBA Basketball World Cup team (finished 7th), with the same agenda. I don't see how is WP:NOTNEWS or WP:SUSTAINED applicable more to this article than to 2020–21 Juventus F.C. Under-23 season or 2020–21 London Lions season. --IndexAccount (talk) 14:03, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a valid reason to keep an article.--User:Namiba 15:47, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
- If there are four 2019-World-Cup-team-related articles (2019 Serbia FIBA Basketball World Cup team – finished 5th; 2019 United States FIBA Basketball World Cup team – 7th; 2019 Italy FIBA Basketball World Cup team – 10th; 2019 Philippines FIBA Basketball World Cup team – 32nd), and you just pick one of them and not all of them, it looks like the true reason is WP:IDONTLIKEIT or WP:USELESS or WP:ITSINTHENEWS. --IndexAccount (talk) 07:15, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not arguing that I don't like it or that it is useless or that it is in the news. I am arguing that there are not sustained, in-depth sources covering the subject in detail. This is the standard by which articles are judged. Those articles may also be nominated for deletion.--User:Namiba 15:49, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

- Keep The statement that the article lacks sustained coverage is not valid. I see continued references in the Serbian sports media to the country's 2019 Basketball World Cup participation.Zvonko (talk) 23:43, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- Are there in-depth, non-trivial secondary sources covering this 5th place team in detail? If so, please link to them.--User:Namiba 00:12, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
- "this 5th place team" really? Finishing as the runner up in the 2014 FIBA World Cup, Serbia was widely expected to be the finalist in the 2019 Finals. --IndexAccount (talk) 07:15, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, but are there sufficient sources to satisfy WP:SUSTAINED and WP:GNG? There is nothing inherently notable about this team or any tournament team.--User:Namiba 15:46, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

- Keep FIBA World Basketball Cup rates higher than WP:NBASKETBALL as FIBA is the world basketball auspice authority. As per above, I don't see how this article is WP:NOTNEWS. --Whiteguru (talk) 11:17, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- "rates higher than WP:NBASKETBALL" is a meaningless phrase in this instance. If you look at the actual policy, you will see that NBASKETBALL is not the standard by which we judge articles like this.--User:Namiba 15:48, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
- Keep - The relevant notability guideline seems to be WP:NSEASONS. Two points are relevant here: With regards to wp:sustained and wp:not news: I think wp:sustained is for guarding against creating articles for events like "someone did a stupid thing and they are on the news" that has no wp:lasting effect, which does go against wp:not news. The subject of the article does not seem like something that wp:sustained is supposed to prevent. Notability is not temporary may be relevant here. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 04:54, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
Articles can be created on individual seasons of teams in top professional leagues, as these articles almost always meet the notability requirements.
– FIBA Basketball World Cup is likely a top professional league.Team season articles should consist mainly of well-sourced prose, not just statistics and lists of players.
– There are substantial sourced prose in the article.
- FIBA is not a professional league. It is an international tournament. That is the wrong guideline.--User:Namiba 18:08, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
- Keep This is one of the best "seasonal" articles I've seen written on the website, and I'm surprised it's at AfD instead of trying to be promoted to a good article. WP:NOTNEWS doesn't really apply here - Serbia at this tournament clearly passes WP:GNG without even needing to do a BEFORE search based on the coverage in the article, and WP:NOTNEWS is more for routine events which fall out of the news cycle after 24 hours, not for major sports events which clearly received coverage in multiple papers in multiple languages over the life span of both tournament qualification and the tournament itself. - So in your opinion, should we create COUNTRY in TOURNAMENT articles for every World Cup, FIBA tournament, etc?--User:Namiba 18:25, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
- I have no problem with this as long as GNG is demonstrated and the article doesn't fail WP:NOTSTATS. We do have a lot of bad season articles and we shouldn't be encouraging bulk creation of them (see NOTSTATS again) but there's no reason why they can' exist, especially if they clearly pass GNG/are written in encyclopaedic tone such as this one is.
