Escrava Anastacia is a popular saint venerated in Brazil. A slave woman of African descent, Anastacia is depicted as possessing incredible beauty, having piercing blue eyes and wearing an oppressive facemask. Not officially recognized by the Catholic Church, Anastacia is still an important figure in popular Catholic devotion throughout Brazil. She is also venerated by members of the Umbanda and Spiritist traditions. She has also been portrayed in Brazil in books, radio programs and a highly successful television miniseries bearing her name. History of the Saint[edit]Without an official history, stories of Anastacia's life vary. Some place her birth in Africa-often to a royal family-while others emphasize her Brazilian origins. In all versions she is enslaved and cruelly treated by her owners. Anastacia stoically bears these traumas and treats all people with love. She is often purported to have possessed tremendous healing powers and to have performed other miracles. Eventually, she is punished by her owners by being forced to wear a muzzle-like facemask that prevented her from speaking and a heavy iron collar. The reasons given for this punishment vary: some report her aiding in the escape of other slaves, others claim she resisted the amorous advances of her Master and yet another version places the blame on a Mistress jealous of her beauty. After a prolonged period of suffering, all the while performing more miracles of healing and peace, Anastacia dies of tetnus from the collar. It is often claimed that she healed the son of her Master and Mistress and forgave their cruelty as she died. History of Veneration[edit]While there are reports of black Brazilians venerating an image of a slave woman wearing a facemask throughout the late 19th and early 20th century, the first wide-scale veneration of the Saint began in 1968 when the curators of the Museum of the Negro, located in the annex of the Church of the Rosary of the Brotherhood of St. Benedict in Rio, erected an exhibition to honor the 80th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Brazil. Among the displays was an engraving of a female slave wearing a punishment facemask. The image soon became the object of popular devotion and members of the Brotherhood began collecting Anastacia stories in the early 1970s. In the 1980s, the cult of Anastacia expanded from her original, poor, black base to include many progressive, middle-class whites. In 1984, a effort funded by the oil company Petrobras to officially canonize Anastacia brought her considerable attention. Seen as a symbol of racial harmony, her popularity expanded rapidly, especially among nurses, black women and prisoners. There were radio dramatizations of her life and on television a popular miniseries and investigative reports were produced. She was also integrated into the Umbanda faith as one of the pretos velhos, "old black slaves". In 1987, the Catholic Church declared that Anastacia never existed and her image was removed from Church-owned properties. However, by this time, several independent shrines had been erected in Rio which exist to this day. Veneration Today[edit]Like other Saints, devotion to Anastacia is a deeply personal experience amongst those who venerate her. The primary arena of this devotion is the use of small images--like prayer cards, medallions, statuettes, candles, etc--through which the devotee prays for Anastacia to interceed on her behalf. Many also say prayers to Anastacia in times of difficulty or crisis. Often, devotees respond to intercessions by pilgrimmage to one of several popular shrines. Here small offerings like flowers, jewlery, prayer cards and medallions are given to the image of the Saint. Miniseries[edit]In 1990, a miniseries entitled "Escrava Anastacia" was produced for Brazilian television. Directed by Henrique Martins, written by Paulo César Coutinho and starring Ângela Correa, it portrayed Anastacia as a Nigerian princess captured by slavers. The image of Anastacia healing the son of her oppressors is an innovation developed for this program. Sources[edit]Blessed Anastacia (1998) by John Burdick

With roots deeply entrenched in the entwines of The Himalayan mountains; Netherlands based Tibetan Classical singer and performing artist Namgyal Lhamo is the only TIPA (Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts- www.tibetanarts.org-founded by The Dalai Lama) trained female Tibetan performing artist and complete musician (Lute +Dranyen) with permanent residence in Europe. Winner of the Best Female singer award at the Tibetan music awards 2007 ( musictibet.com),Namgyal Lhamo's double album release "Pure" and "The Enchanted Land" have opened up new frontiers of Tibetan music in the western world. A performing artist with over 2 decades of onstage experience, Namgyal is an exponent of Avant-Garde Tibetan traditional opera and song. Having toured the world and performed at Tibetan Freedom concerts in Amsterdam and New York, this child star of 70's Tibetan opera movement is an ace at her craft with skills destined to spellbind. Like in most Asian countries, Tibet does not know polyphonic music. The Dranyen (Tibetan lute) moves around the basic melody line, or has a rhythmic function. It has three double strings and is tuned La Re Sol, a quart up and then a quint down. With an unique voice that layers itself around textures and multiple tones to form stunningly controlled vocal loops, Namgyal Lhamo is an authentic representative of Tibetan traditional music that for so long has been perceived by the International world as being confined to hypnotic monastic chanting and is popularly known as “The Nightingale of Tibet” Namgyal Lhamo performs solo and is accompanied on stage by her voice, the Tibetan lute (Dranyen) and her independent spirit. She also is the owner of the eclectic restaurant in Utrecht- De Werfkring- Signed to Deep Emotions Publishing, Namgyal Lhamo's upcoming opus "Anthology" is a tribute to His Holiness The Dalai Lama and is scheduled for release this winter. Biography[edit]Muse was on the leading lines of The East Texas Indie Music boom with his bands Uncle Andrew and Neckpunch. He also lended a helping hand to create Eisley's debut album for Warner Bros. Records, as well as giving them their name writing several songs for the family formed group while playing Bass guitar in Live shows. Taylor played Drums and guitar in early incarnations of The Loneley Hearts ,a.k.a. Holland, a.k.a. Somerset but opted not to make the trek away from East Texas to join them in Nashville Tn, where they are based to this day. He recorded several tracks under the Moniker Quiet Company that he released Independently, while playing with his band The Connotations. He also lent the track, Music For The Masses (When The Masses Have Mullets) to Jeff Cloud's label Velvet Blue's Scene But Not Herd volume 3 compilation, Catalog #VBM 053 as an unsigned artist. Several of the tracks on Quiet Company's debut album Shine Honesty were arranged and composed while Muse was fronting The Connotations. After some soul searching, the band decided to part ways after their only official release, Trouble by The Truckloads off of Mono vs. Stereo's The Revolution Will Begin In The Blink Of An Eye compilation. Muse took a handful of the songs that they had demoed and recorded Shine Honesty with Alex Bhore in May 2005. He now had a record, and starting auditioning band mates to play his tunes. Northern Records heard the unmastered version and invited Taylor Muse and Quiet Company to find a home with them. Andrew D. Prickett lended his own brand of expertise in the Mixing and Mastering of the album and in March 23, 2006 Northern Records released Shine Honesty to the masses. Quiet Company is currently touring nationally. They recently became runner ups in Austin City Limits ACL Fest in Austin, TX. As well as recently completing their first music video for the song Fashionabel, off of Shine Honesty. The Video was shot in Nashville, TN by New Valiant Productions and directed by American film maker Cameron McCasland. Discography[edit]Albums[edit]Compilations[edit]1. By improving the Palestinian Civil Police and law enforcement capacity, EUPOL COPPS represents the efforts of the EU and the wider international community to support the Palestinian Authority in taking responsibility for law and order. The Mission acts in close co-operation with the European Commission's institution building programmes for the Palestinians as well as other international efforts in the security sector. File:Head of Mission talking with Palestinian police.jpg Aims and Scope of EUPOL COPPS EUPOL COPPS aims at the establishment of sustainable and effective civil policing arrangements under Palestinian ownership in accordance with the best international standards. More specifically the tasks of the Mission are as follows: • The role of EU COPPS is to provide support to the Palestinian Civil Police for immediate operational priorities and longer-term transformational change as described in the Palestinian Civil Police Development Programme (created by EU COPPS in collaboration with Palestinian experts, during a workshop in Jericho in April 2005) by advising and closely mentoring the Palestinian Civil Police, and specifically senior officials at District and Headquarters level; • EUPOL COPPS attaches importance to advising the Palestinians on police-related Criminal Justice elements; • Co-ordinate and facilitate financial assistance, whether from an EU country or other international donors to the Palestinian Civil Police.File:Palestinian police manning a checkpoint.jpg Size, Structure and Budget of the Mission • EUPOL COPPS has currently 16 unarmed members of staff (11 European and 5 local). When fully deployed it will include approximately 33 police and civilian experts mainly seconded from EU Member States. • The Head of Mission receives guidance from EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Javier Solana, through the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Marc Otte. • The Mission began on 1st January 2006 and has a renewable 3-year mandate. • The Mission budget until the end of 2007 amounts 8.9 million euros. While specific projects may be financed separately by individual EU Member Sates and other international donors. Organization • EUPOL COPPS is currently headed by Deputy Chief Constable Colin Smith, QPM, who succeed the 1st January 2007 Assistant Chief Constable Jonathan McIvor. McIvor was the first Head of Mission. • The EU's Political and Security Committee exercises, under the responsibility of the EU Council, the political control and strategic direction of the Mission. • EUPOL COPPS is a civilian mission in the framework of the European Security and Defence Policy. How EUPOL COPPS was created • The groundwork for the establishment of EUPOL COPPS was laid at the European Council on the 17th and 18th June 2004 when EU leaders reaffirmed their readiness to support the Palestinian Authority in taking responsibility for law and order, and in particular, in improving its civil police and law enforcement capacity. • EUPOL COPPS builds on the work of the EU Co-ordination Office for Palestinian Police Support (EU COPPS) established in January 2005 within the office of the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Ambassador Marc Otte. • EU COPPS was formally established in April 2005, following an Exchange of Letters between the Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei, and Marc Otte, the EU Special Representative to the Middle-East Peace Process. • EU COPPS turned into EUPOL COPPS when in July 2005 EU foreign ministers reiterated their commitment to contributing to the development of Palestinian security capacity through the Palestinian Civil Police and agreed that this should become an European Security and Defence Policy mission. This decision became legally binding with the publication of a Joint Action in November that year.
The EU has been at the forefront of efforts for peace in the Middle East, and is an active member of the Quartet alongside its partners the US, Russia and the UN. Resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict is a strategic priority for Europe. Accordingly, the EU is a facilitator in the Middle East Peace Process, notably through regular meetings with the main actors involved; visits to the Middle East by EU leaders and the activities of the EU High Representative, as well as the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process.

Their pricing, reserving (loss reserving or claims reserving) and financial modeling software products are all market leaders and have been awarded the prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise twice in the past 5 years. Company Overview[edit]Founded in 1993, EMB now has over 250 staff worldwide. Headquartered in London, at the heart of the world’s insurance industry centre, EMB are close to the latest market developments. They have offices all over the world, including Germany, France, the USA, South Africa, Australia, Latin America, Scandinavia and India.
History[edit]The growth of EMB in a conservative industry has taken place in direct competition with several well-established players such as Tillinghast Towers-Perrin, Watson Wyatt and Deloitte. It has only been made possible by a highly innovative and effective approach to servicing clients. EMB prides itself on redefining the role of the non-life actuary, opening up markets that previously did not exist. By 2003, ten years after the firm was founded, EMB had become the dominant actuarial consultancy in UK personal lines, especially in the motor market. In the international market, it has achieved the joint largest presence at Lloyd’s of London and a growing client base among commercial insurers and reinsurers, many of them based overseas. It is also a leader in the large and growing run-off business. EMB has expanded internationally and now has offices on every continent. Most recently, they have opened offices in Norway, Japan and South Africa. EMB has a substantial and growing client-base among insurers and reinsurers based in the UK and overseas. Current issues such as Solvency II and the move in pricing away from tariffs to more open markets have seen clients from various countries go to EMB for assistance. Actuarial Software[edit]EMB is committed to Research and Development and has a large team of software developers and testers updating existing products and producing new ones. The developers and testers work closely with EMB consultants on the design and specifications, which follows through to the thorough testing of the products before release. Over 500 clients use EMB’s actuarial software [1] which covers all aspects of personal and commercial insurance lines. The software helps companies with risk assessment and modeling, financial and business simulations, reinsurance decisions, pricing analysis and optimization and loss reserving. Notable Awards[edit]
Industry Research[edit]EMB regularly undertakes industry research to inform the industry of changes in general insurance and to help clients have an insight into useful market information. EMB’s most recent research was for the International Underwriters Association’s [2] Fourth UK Bodily Injury Awards Study [3]. This report shows that claims paid by insurers have been rising by around 10% p.a. for at least the past twenty years. The upward trend is unlikely to end any time soon, according to one of the study’s authors. This Study contained a lot of good news for the insurance industry and can be seen as a tribute to its increased effectiveness and technical capability. Companies are identifying claims earlier, paying them more quickly and reserving more accurately.
EMB Philosophy[edit]Knowledge transfer lies at the heart of the EMB philosophy. They strongly believe that it is in clients’ interests for underwriters, finance directors and other key staff to acquire actuarial knowledge. EMB offer knowledge transfer to clients through training and seminar programmes [4] for underwriters, in-house actuaries and finance directors. Their software [5] also helps clients achieve sustainable improvement by enabling their staff to carry out basic actuarial functions and solve their problems. This is an unconventional approach for a firm of actuaries, since transferring knowledge to clients is normally seen as a recipe for losing business. They find, however, that it helps to build client relationships, and frees up time to concentrate on the more sophisticated aspects of their work where they can most add value, such as the development of business plans and the optimisation of reinsurance. Artist and Craftsman Supply was founded in 1985 by Larry Adlerstein, a then ceramics potter who had dabbled in everything from carpentry to law to social activism. Adlerstein now often travels the world for new vendors and art supplies, searching for what he states is "accurate information" about them. Adlerstein began the business in Portland, Maine and while its corporate headquarters are still located there, it has since grown to its present 13 stores nationwide. In 2004, an on-line store was added. A&C Supply's tag line is that it supplies discount art supplies for professionals, students, children, and crafters. ANWAR Oil[edit]Anwar is responsible for the largest oil deposits in the United States. These deposits are not in use now, but will be available in the future. These deposits are said to be larger than the deposits in Texas or Louisiana, which are already in use. This area where ANWAR is located was put aside by president Carter in the 1980's. President Carter was hoping these plains would decrease America's dependency on foreign oils. Early Life[edit]Anwar started out as a kid in Panama. There he learned how to play soccer, which would become his favorite thing in the world, next to oil. His friends and family always pushed Anwar to pursue a soccer career, but Anwar saw the oil buisness would be taking off in the future. In the U.S.[edit]Anwar and his family moved to the United States when he was 11. His family was reloctaed to florida, where Anwar became a soccer star. Anwar played for several differnt teams and was a top prospect going into Middle School. His soccer career quickly picked up, while the idea of owning lots of oil slowly moved to the back of his head. Anwar's fame soon started catching up to him and his family pushed him to improve his game. The Basingstoke to Reading Branch line is a branch of the Great Western Main Line which connects it from Reading to Basingstoke on the South Western Main Line. Originally built as a small rural branch, this railway line has become an important link between the two railways, and is used at present by long distance Virgin trains (soon to be CrossCountry) as a link from Bournemouth to the Midlands via Oxford. History[edit]The line was originally built in 1845 by Berks and Hants railway, which was absorbed into Great Western Railway before the track was built. This line was originally broad gauge which was a different type of gauge for the main line, built by London and Southwest Railway, and GWR had a rivalry with L&SWR. As a result, GWR built a separate terminus for their branch directly north of the L&SWR terminus. During the 1930s, this was demolished and services were redirected to the southern station. In 1856, however, the line was relaid with the standard gauge, which meant that the two lines could be linked. The line has 3 stations: Mortimer opened at the same time as the railway. Bramley opened in 1895 and is located between Mortimer and Basingstoke, while Reading West was opened in 1906. Reading West was originally opened so that trains heading towards Oxford could call at Reading. However, since this is a small station, Virgin Trains services prefer to reverse at Reading's main station. Services[edit]First Great Western operate local services from Basingstoke to Reading, calling at all stations on the line. It is used at present by long distance Virgin trains (soon to be CrossCountry) as a link from Bournemouth to the Midlands via Oxford. These trains reverse at Reading, which now causes problems. These trains reverse at Reading, which now causes problems, since these long trains do not fit into the bays and must therefore use through platforms, which blocks them from use of the Main line trains. There are plans to redevelop the station to deal with this problem. Sources[edit][[11]] Declined. This suggestion doesn't sufficiently explain the importance or significance of the subject. Virginia had a surplus of natural gas for the state and allowed, via statute, for pipeline companies to take that surplus and sell it to other states. The demand became higher in W. Virginia so the legislature enacted a statute which required the pipeline companies to first satisfy all W. Virginia companies first before piping it out of state. Pennsylvania and Ohio and brought suit to stop the enforcement of this statute. Conclusion: The majority opinion, given by Justice Van Devanter, held that the staute was unconstitutional because it interfered with valid commerce under the ecommerce clause. He said, "A state law, whether of the state where the gas is produced or that where it is to be sold, which by its necessary operation prevents, obstructs or burdens suc transmission is a regulation of interstate commerce-a prohibited interference . . ." The 106 effect refers to the lethargic, procrastinating, slacker metality that befalls upon any person that sets foot inside the walls of State Quadrangle's Irving hall room 106. Within these walls, six young men partake in numerous activities such as studying, exercising, and taking herbal supplements. Each of these actions is a major factor that cotributes to their GPA's downfall.
study methods[edit]The favored method of study is through television. MTV, ESPN, and HBO keep the room's members and guests in line. MTV, specifically music videos by Kanyae West, 50 Cent, and Lil Weezy teaches them their english and grammar. ESPN helps out with their nutrition and physical fitness knoweledge. HBO has two jobs. It teaches about history and communication skills during the day, and anatomy at night. Some overachieving memebers of 106-2 and 106-3 enrolled in extracirricular activities, similar to drivers education.
exercise[edit]Exercise is important to this group of men and their friends. At all times, someone can always be found working out. 106 is especcially concerned with their finger and bicept muscles. Their primary circuits alternate sets of XBOX Live Halo 3 games and 10 cup beer pong. Not only do these build up muscle, do pelvic thrust exercises as frequent to occasional work outs.
mental health[edit]Herbal supplements give the boys a level-headed, peace of mind, by helping them reach a meditative state. Without these supplements, the men would be bothered by the nagging of teachers, parents, girls, and each other. These green leaves give the 106-2 and 106-3 members conclusively the ability to tune out the bothers and burdens of life. They are easily able to forget about the reponsibilities and obligations other college students suffer, no matter how large the issue may be.
106 loyalty: dicks before chicks[edit]Though the boys of 106 love their female counterpart, 103, they maintain a tight knit relationship. The guys religiously run a male bonding exercize every Friday, in which they titled, "Circle Time." What happens behind the closed doors of 106 at this time is unknown to many. All that is certain, is that the boys wash their hands before leaving with a huge smile on their faces. Sometimes large white stains are present from their bonding, but their nature is undetermined at this time.
a case study[edit]It has been proven that the members of 106 are dangerous men. Though they seem humorous, inviting, and harmless, the boys are in fact detriental to everyone's health and future. In a study administered to 4 girls, there was a 50% decrease in their health, and a 75% decrease in their grades. Normaly responsible, intelegent girls found themselves perpetually in the 106 sanctuary, and never in the study room or library. This is a result of the lack of sleep, aternative study methods, and frequent meditations. All should be warned that the 106 effect sneaks up on its prey. People usually do not realize they have fallen victim until it is too late. They have suffered the 106 effect.

Cloning of Humans[edit]The cloning of Dolly was a big excitement, because it made the idea of cloning humans more attainable. This event made cloning become popular and increased the research within both the private and public sectors. Most of what one would find would be on the laws of cloning. The cloning issue is more a controversial idea now. There would not be much in the other areas of cloning besides the future. The idea of cloning humans, however, is controversial. From the medical perspective, cloning could not only save thousands of people from dying every day of lethal diseases, but could also contribute to infertility issues and could even some day be a common remedy for patients. Presently, cloning is its infancy stage, where only the rich countries can participate in the cloning of animals and humans, while the other countries keep an eye on the outcomes of it. The process of cloning is very complicated, but appears simple at first glance. The DNA of one cell is taken out and another DNA of another cell is put into the first cell where the DNA was originally removed. As we become familiar with the cloning process, the hope is that as cloning becomes refined it could save lives by generating stem cells for human use and further research. Due to our lack of knowledge regarding cloning, many questions and concerns surround this issue. Cloning should be guided by the government and supported by the people. There is no universal law that governs cloning. In the U.S. there are controversies that remain between those with religious issues and those promoting scientific advancement. Many scientists believe that “the idea of cloning as a technique in medical research while banning it as a method of reproduction” (Zitner). One of the prime arguments against cloning comes from those with staunch religious convictions. “People who oppose cloning do so because of moral and ethical and religious reasons” (Ismail). The people, who oppose cloning, oppose it because of their stance that humanness starts when two cells are joined, when fertilization occurs. Scientists argue that a cloned embryo is different than a regular embryo that has been fertilized (Zitner). The Christian church says that whenever an egg is cloned a human is created. Also “the Catholic Church considers embryos as human beings and is opposed to all research on embryos” (Ismail). Many people believe that “the cloning of human beings or any other purpose is wrong to human rights” (Ismail). There opposition does not consider the long term effects. “They disagree with a women’s right to destroy an embryo just for research” (Zitner). The opposition to cloning does not see that women’s right to undergo cloning may mean another individual does not have to live with a life long disability or illness. With the different types of cloning many things can happen in the future. The purpose of cloning should be used for the greater good, not the bad should be put into mind (Stock). “It would be dumb to stop research that could save people’s lives” (Ismail). In the US laws are still being argued over cloning. The laws with therapeutic cloning are still in a debate in the US (Ismail). “Biomedicine could advance much faster if we abolished the regulations or laws on human experimentation in clinical trails” (Stock). Like the US the rich countries are also arguing about the laws on cloning. “Universally, little progress has been made to outlaw cloning”. “Many countries only have a ban on reproductive cloning”. “Some countries want a total ban, some want cloning to be encouraged and some countries want a partial ban on cloning”. The undeveloped or poor countries really have no laws on the cloning issue. “Around one hundred and fifty countries have no laws for it” (Ismail). If cloning is banned in one country, scientists that study cloning will just move to another country that has no laws on cloning (Stock). There is an ongoing argument on the cloning issue. No one knows when the argument will come to a peaceful end. The argument between countries may never stop. Between the government and the people cloning issues may not be agreed upon regarding its regulations. While cloning is in the research stage it should still be done legally. Cloning should be legal, but be guided by the government. Since the government represents the people, governmental control and oversight is just a logical way to have a checks and balance system. “Human cloning is the next step in the march of scientific progress” (“Clash over Cloning”). With all the advances in technology and other sciences cloning too, science and experimentation needs to be guided by rules and regulations. It only makes logical sense that the government be the entity to oversee this and be impartial. Laws on cloning need to ensure our safety. If the “bad guy” were to clone random people or bad people like Adolph Hitler, cloning would be banned for good (Zitner). The rules and regulations need to be on who are the people that do the cloning and whom is to be cloned. One can not clone just because one has money. There needs to be a logical explanation on why one wants a clone. For example, a doctor will not give one transplant just because one has money. An ethical doctor will not give one a surgery just because one has money. One needs a license to do research in cloning. With that license there should be an oath, saying that a cloning doctor (in the future) will not clone one just for money. The government needs to set up a policy so only certain people can get cloned. The people that can be cloned are the people that have high IQ or other attributes. The people that have high IQ or other assets can be cloned because they can make a difference in the world. If people with a low IQ were to be cloned, the world could see a big impact in society. Communities may not be a pleasant place to reside if people with low IQ were to be the majority of the citizens. Other people that should be cloned are healthy people. If healthy people were cloned then society would not have disease epidemics as often as today. The world would be healthier and better. Doctors could not be in need as much as today. The abstract people should also be cloned. The type like Albert Einstein should be cloned. The people that think in different ways than the norm should be cloned. Society would probably not have a twist of excitement if the abstract people were not cloned. The abstract people refer to the people out of the norm. People with high IQ in one area and low in the opposite area should be cloned. Some of the abstract people are very famous like the performers in the top bands of today. With cloning come the failures and the successes of cloning. The failures of cloning like the disabled or deformed clones also need to be taken care of like human beings. The success side of cloning will live normal lives and exceed in the clones ability. The failures are the problem. Where are the failures going to go? The government is not just going to let the failures roam out and about. They need a place to stay. The government could provide a facility for them just like orphanages. The facilities for the failures are going to be different. Just like prisoners and mental people, abnormal people need a place to stay where there own kind is. Maybe there will be so few of the failures that regular people can take care of then. The future lies ahead of use waiting to be answered. We would find something quicker if the research was supported by the government. If there was some sort of reward research findings would come out quicker, but there is no reward today from the government. To that end, the more people partaking of research, the more brilliant minds at work, the quicker the possibility of a solution. A good thing involved with research is that the more people working on one subject means that the quicker the outcomes will be generated. Along with quicker results is the added benefit of healthy competition. Competition keeps the prices of cloning down. Coupled with the healthy competition is the necessity for ancillary promotion of technology and other scientific advancements which support the prime objective of cloning. Now that the infrastructure is addressed comes the need for funding and budgeting. Again, the partnership of government with private and corporate sectors will yield optimal benefits for the research of cloning. The research continues today wondering what it is going to be like in the future. Cloning in the future holds hopes for many people. Therapeutic cloning is one of the topics being researched on today. It is also one of the top arguments in cloning today. The arguing is going because people believe that cloning is wrong in the perspective of religion, but science thinks cloning is ok to continue. Stem cells are also a topic being researched today. With stem cells many good thing may come out of it. “Through therapeutic cloning scientists could possibly replace a patient’s faulty cells with healthy ones, often cloned from the patient’s own cells” (“Human cloning”). Therapeutic cloning could help all types of patients disabled, help for incurable diseases, and genetic disorders. It could help the disabled by growing new body parts out of their own cells. For incurable diseases new stem cells could be put in the patient to grow new wherever the damage is. For example, a tumor in a patient could be taken out and put a stem cell in replace of it to grow new in that area. Genetic disorders could be stopped by changing the DNA of that person so one could be “normal”. In reproductive cloning, there could be help for the infertile couples who could have a clone of one or the other parent. Reproductive cloning could also help farmers have healthy animals and animals that produce more on what they intend to make through cloning. Cloning should be guided by the government and supported by the people. The people today are still arguing regarding the laws of cloning. The idea of cloning humans should be legal, but some guidelines are necessary for all individuals to follow. For cloning, the government should set rules and guidelines for all to follow. There needs to be limits on cloning, so that harm and exploitation are minimized to society. Some people will probably do cloning just for money once cloning is common place. The research conducted by the private and public sectors will contribute to making cloning more available sooner. The hope is that the research will be expedited with many brilliant scientists contributing to the outcome than just having only governmental involvement. The expectation is that cloning will have many possibilities in our future. Cloning is not a scary thing to look towards, but a hope towards the future. Created by Jonathan Greenawalt 18 October 2005 Cloning of Humans The cloning of Dolly was a big excitement, because it made the idea of cloning humans more attainable.
