The article Geoscope Environmental Laboratories has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I couldn't find any reliable sources that cover this laboratory, so it doesn't look like it passes Wikipedia's notability guidelines for organizations.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — Mr. Stradivarius 19:18, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Ethiopian Arts and Humanities Fund

[edit]

Hello Ynegede,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Ethiopian Arts and Humanities Fund for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Welcome!

Hello, Ynegede, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Ethiopian Arts and Humanities Fund, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Since you are the founder of the fund, you have a clear COI. I'll be pretty clear: we discourage editors from editing topics they have a COI with as we value verifiability and neutrality greatly: they are two of Wikipedia's five pillars. I'll advise you not to write an article on the fund for this reason: Wikipedia is not a platform to let people know about your organization, nor is it a social network, a webhost or LinkedIn. If the fund is notable, one of us volunteers on Wikipedia will write an article in due time. As for why I tagged the page for speedy deletion, the page basically was written in a non-neutral way and only said what the fund does, in a highly promotional tone. The article was not salvageable, so I tagged it for speedy deletion. JavaHurricane 06:20, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. I did not know that my being the founder would be a conflict that prevented me from writing the article. I combed through the page and did my best to remove any subjectivity by looking at an existing page that is on a very similar topic and mirroring their tone and approach to sharing information about the fund. The fund is indeed notable and I would appreciate any assistance that you or other editors may be able to provide in establishing a reputable wiki page for it. I have done my best to present the information as a reflection of the 5 pillars that you sent.

I note that you have not disclosed your COI with regards to the EAHF, as required by the policy. Please do so now. I will place a COI notice underneath, which provides information on how to manage and disclose your COI. Best, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:39, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Ynegede. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Ethiopian Arts and Humanities Fund, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:40, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
