April 2016

[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Auktyon, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. --Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 02:53, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Hobbes Goodyear: are you kidding me? WTF is this? Also, please explain you actions from here. --XXN, 10:17, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not kidding at all. You made a bad page move; I corrected it. You did not discuss the move aahead of time or provide any useful explanation for your move. My actions were explained by my edit summaries:
rv undiscussed vandalism or POV edits contradicted by cited sources and band's own web page
Hobbes Goodyear moved page Auktsyon to Auktyon over redirect: moving back to original article name, repairing unexplained, undiscussed vandalism or POV move
The article name is the band's name in English, as per common usage and the band's own choice. If you think that it should be something else, it would be helpful if you were to explain why and to provide references to independent, reliable sources to justify your argument. --Hobbes Goodyear (talk) 11:31, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Hobbes Goodyear: I'm not bound to discuss every page-move action. See Reasons for moving a page: "The title has been misspelled, does not contain standard capitalization or punctuation, or is misleading or inaccurate"; this criterion cover my action. Your summary for reverting move, "repairing unexplained, undiscussed vandalism or POV move" – is false and blatant. If you don't know Russian, it's your problem. See this, from history: (XXN moved page Auktyon to Auktsyon over redirect: ц) — in summary you can see Russian/Cyrillic letter "ц" (here is an article about it). See also WP:RUS. Now you know that this letter is commonly romanized as "ts". And, probably, at least now, you would can understand why default name of this band (АукцЫон) in English is "Auktsyon". Your accusation in vandalism from my part is futile. --XXN, 14:28, 14 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Overlinking and dashes

[edit]

Hi, I've noticed a few articles you've created where spaced em dashes (—) are used as interruptors in lists, rather than the mandated spaced en dashes (–). Also, we don't link years, dates, and common terms unless there's a good reason to do so

Thanks so much for your work, and ask me if you need to know more. Tony (talk) 09:47, 29 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you. Almost a year ago, you moved this article. Was there a discussion prior to this? An editor has queried the page move and another admin has restored the page to its former title, as there is no evident consensus for the move. Can you cast any light on this? --John (talk) 22:06, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John. First of all, this list article is unsourced, therefore is original research. Its title does not reflect the content at 100%: it comprises 1300+ names of settlements in the Republic of Ireland, including Dublin, Cork, Galway, Waterford, and Limerick, which are cities not simple towns. Cities and towns are urban types of settlements, but villages - rural. Why to mix them all in this page under this title? Also, this page is part of the series {{World populated places}}, where most article titles start with ″List of populated places in″. --XXN, 12:34, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Perfectly reasonable point of view. Why not start a discussion at Talk:List of towns and villages in the Republic of Ireland and see if you can get consensus for your change? --John (talk) 12:38, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --XXN, 13:29, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Errors produced by your mass edits

[edit]

Your mass edits to add infoboxes are producing errors on several pages, such as Șofrîncani and Sărata Nouă. Please do something about this. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:58, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done: created Module:Location map/data/Moldova Edineț and Module:Location map/data/Moldova Leova and errors disappeared. Though I prefer old type - "Template:Location map Moldova..." but now there is a permission error and is not anymore possible for simple users to create such pages. --XXN, 20:25, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This only partially fixed the problem. Several more pages, such as Ștefănești, Ștefan Vodă, Pîrîta, and Halahora de Sus still have the error. Also, note that the message you're getting isn't just a permissions error; even users that have the ability to create old-style map definitions shouldn't do so. FC Ungheni

[edit]

Hi XXN, thought I'd bring this to your attention. You moved the page CS Moldova-03 Ungheni from CF Ungheni. Kolya77 made a requested move that FC Ungheni should be moved to CF Ungheni. This move can technically be done by an administrator, but thought you should be aware. If this move is correct, Kolya77 or you can post at WP:RMT to request that the move be done. — Andy W. (talk ·ctb) 04:26, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
