Welcome!
Hi, and welcome to the Countries WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of counties.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? See some model pages such as Cambodia!
- Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every country article in Wikipedia.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Shy1520 10:43, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

Maltese blessed
Being part of the Wikiproject Saints myself, I am ready to help you as usual in such articles.
Motto problem
Regarding the motto, I am quite sure the motto is correct, in fact I wrote to the DOI who will give me an official reply regarding the status of the motto. If I remember well, I had heard Dr. Edward Fenech Adami say its importance as a motto.
Coat of Arm problem
Thank you for copyediting the coat of arm article. It is quite obvious that the wording was a per the 1964 Coat of Arms Act or whatever its called description, of which I hold a copy and therefore it was not a copy vio. Mere descriptions of items should not be considered as copy vio.

- Thanks for joining in on the Maltese Blesseds effort. Indeed, from my experience with the Flags and symbols of Malta article, I had recognized the wording style. Unfortunately I do not have the 1964 documentation so I had to use an alternative, yet still valid, reasoning. └ VodkaJazz / talk ┐ 18:32, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Disney/Barney vandal
Per WP:AIV, the rule seems to be that a block can be issued if the user vandalises after a final warning and the vandalism is less than 24 hours old at the time of the block. That would apply here -- except that this seems to be a school account and giving a 24 or 48 hour block on a Saturday wouldn't accomplish much. Write me again if it happens on Monday and I will take action then. Thanks, NawlinWiki 13:08, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
How to...?
How do you propose an article for deletion? I've been wanting to get rid of This for days now.
Thanks, GamePlayer

Lest you should think me a horrific typist or othographist, I should observe that the betwixt locution was not the result of a typo but, instead, of the intentional use of a synonym for between (see, e.g., the Wiktionary entry for the former). I rather imagined that this difference was another instance of the divergence of American English from British English, but I've come to appreciate that betwixt has been relegated to the realm of the archaic, such that my formulation was wrong and your edit was quite proper; good on ya. So, yes, that's about six lines of text to say absolutely nothing, but I mean only to observe that I'm not a total nutcase (mostly a nutcase, yes, but not totally)... :) Joe 20:21, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for adopting me
Hiya, thanks for adopting me :)
I'm not very focused on any particular projects in Wiki, but have a few items on the go which are listed on the top of my user page.
I have the idea that there's a way to request a page, but I can't find it now. I though of this because I noticed the page on GCS doesn't list the medical use for it, and I have no doubt that medics could do a much better job than me at sorting this if I can alert them. Is there a standard mechanism for that?
Any tips & comments welcome :) --Mortice 18:56, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
GCS
Hi, I was flagging about no page for the medical term GCS - I checked it out and found it refers to the Glasgow Coma Scale which, of course, was listed on GCS all along. Thanks for your help --Mortice 21:16, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Copyright of lycrics
Hi, your adoptee here :)
I have an interest in writing an article about a song - Glad to be Gay by Tom Robinson (started forming notes). One thing I'd like to do is include the lycrics of the song, which have changed over the years in interesting ways.
I imagine there must be an issue with the copyright nature of song lycrics. However, I see that the article Tom Robinson includes a verse from the song. I believe there's a clause in copyright law that allows fair use for quoting subsections from a copyright work, so could this verse be included on that page under that clause, or should it be removed?
There are many other websites that list the lycrics of the song (such as here) but I guess they're not operating legally.
I might be able to get agreement from the copyright owner for use (which I guess would not make the work public domain as such) - how then should I annotate the work the knowledge that it's authorised usage?
I imagine the answer is that nothing should be used anywhere unless it's unequivocally public domain, in which case I'll remove the lyrics on the already on Tom Robinson --Mortice 23:36, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Proposal for managing song lists on Simpons episodes
Hi - I'd appreciate any thoughts you have on the 'proposal' page I've created Wikipedia:WikiProject The Simpsons/Proposal for managing song lists on Simpons episodes --Mortice 23:30, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for moving my page to fix the spelling error :)
Only one person so far has expressed a view on the proposal, even though I've posted a link on talk pages for The Simpsons, the project page and the 'list of songs' page. I wouldn't mind so much if people thought it was a bad idea, but I don't know what to make of no response at all. I feel it's not the sort of thing I should plunge into implementing without some endorsement from the community.
Is there a way I should make this proposal more formally, to request comments? --Mortice 20:52, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Virtual classroom
I've set up the Virtual classroom (VC), which is a forum for the discussion of advanced Wikipedia skills. It differs from the help forums on Wikipedia in that major topics of discussion are scheduled and once started remain continuous.
The reason I'm contacting you is because one of the class assignments is a comparison of our user interfaces. A lot can be learned from individual users, who usually have developed their own ways of doing things. I noticed you are an expert programmer, so you no doubt have some tricks up your sleeve. I'm hoping that you will stop by and share and compare the interfaces you use when browsing and working on Wikipedia. I've also constructed a tools page which presents everything learned from these discussions, and it is growing -- there are some pretty powerful techniques on there now. Even Interiot, Rich Farmbrough, and CBDunkerson have stopped by the VC to show off their tools and methods. It's been a lot of fun, and you are invited. The interface topics are called:
and
I look forward to seeing you there and to learning your wikiways. Sincerely, The Transhumanist 23:32, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi, VodkaJazz, I am very sorry but I reverted your edit to Chess (with the exception of dropped "weasel words") because I feel that in the main article about chess we should keep this part very short - many much more important things (e.g. chess openings or many names of important masters) must be dropped out due to the length of the article. Happy editing! :-) --Ioannes Pragensis 19:49, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Tao of Jeet Kune Do
VodkaJazz, I reverted your edits to Tao of Jeet Kune Do because:
A. The 2006 Edition part is NOT an advertisement. It describes a very important addition that this book is now available in Hardback. I surmise you are not a martial artist as this fact is very important to any disciples of Jeet Kune Do and or martial artists interested in this book. B. The Link to Black Belt Magazine is a reference as all wikipedia article are required to have some reference. C. The paragraph about the authorship is not meant to be flaming and neither is it useless. There have been some editors to this article that do not understand what they were editing because they didn't even bother reading the book. The paragraph is there to defend what is written based on the reference.
In the future please do not remove edits solely based on your opinions and discuss, thank you.FrankWilliams 22:51, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

WP:ADOPT
Hi there,
As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.
A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.
Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.
Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.
Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 14:06, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Hello, VodkaJazz. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:ADsmall.gif) was found at the following location: User:VodkaJazz. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 02:30, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
Hello VodkaJazz, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:ADsmall.gif) was found at the following location: User:VodkaJazz. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Please note that it is possible that the image on your page is included vie a template or usebox. In that case, please find a free image for the template or userbox. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 09:43, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Chess and JavaScript
I went through the list of WikiProject Chess members and found out that you know some JavaScript. Check out this discussion I started at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Chess#Chess_diagram_to_include_FEN_with_Javascript?. Basically I'd like the Template:Chess diagram to include a FEN string of the position. The FEN string should be automatically generated. I figured I'd just ask if you could try to do this? No worries if it's not possible though. :) —ZeroOne (talk / @) 00:55, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Presidential flag of Malta.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Presidential flag of Malta.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:51, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Rudder of Malta.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Rudder of Malta.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 07:24, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Pennant of the Armed Forces of Malta.gif
Thank you for uploading Image:Pennant of the Armed Forces of Malta.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:33, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
