Hi! I happened to notice that the article 関東軍 is Kwantung Army. As the army is a Japanese one, shouldn't the article name be Kantōgun or Kantō Army? I notice you have become involved in an edit war on the Second Sino-Japanese War article, in dispute with Kurt Leyman over the involvement of the United States. It is probably better when these situations happen to go to the article's talk page to discuss edits, rather than just reverting again and again. The best approach is called the Bold, revert, discuss cycle. Reverting other user's edits, even with a full edit summary, can lead into a revert war and can get you blocked from editing by an administrator even if you do not actually break the three revert rule. You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 12007, voting starting December 12007 and main page appearances starting January 12008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Just...adopt-a-range from the available worklists then keep track of your tally on participants' list. The tagging is easy, just follow the simple instructions. You have nominated a recently successful WP:FL. There have been two recent proposals to begin a List of the Day feature on the main page, which have both received majorities but have not been approved as overwhelming support sufficient to change the main page. WP:LOTDP is a new proposal to try to get the ball rolling based on the original proposal. You can voice your thoughts on its talk page. Basically, what the proposal entails is attempting to run an official trial, and then vote after the trial run on whether to change the main page. Support to run a trial requires much less consensus than support to change the main page. Should we succeed at eventually getting such a feature on the main page it would tentatively look like this. Whether or not you support an experimental trial or not you should come discuss the matter at WP:LOTDP's talk page. There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. Tag & Assess 2008 launched on 24 April and will run until 4 July. We have around 60,000 articles to check, so all assistance is very welcome. As usual, there are barnstars galore and service awards for contributing editors.
The project scope has been amended to include specific reference to historically accurate video games. Songs and music with long military associations are also now included.
The Contest department has completed its thirteenth month of competition, which saw 27 entries. The top scorer this month is Ed! with 37 points, followed by Cam with 22 points. Woody, Howard C. Berkowitz, Redmarkviolinist, Nousernamesleft and Outdawg also fielded entries. Blnguyen remains the overall leader, with 188 points in total. The coordinators have "adopted" task forces to act as prime point of contact. A list of which coordinators have adopted which task forces is here.

Partner peer reviews: for a thirty-day trial period, we'll be running joint peer reviews with Wikiproject Video Games. The idea is simple: we help with their reviews; they help with ours. This way both wikiprojects benefit from new reviewers and new ideas!
We're notable: A new book, Simon Fowler's 2007 Guide to Military History on the Internet (UK:Pen & Sword, ISBN9781844156061) rates Wikipedia as "the best general resource" for military research (p. 7). Of the military pages, he says: "The results are largely accurate and generally free of bias" (he also suggests people join the wikiproject). When rating WP as the No. 1 military site (p. 201) he says "Wikipedia is often criticised for its inaccuracy and bias, but in my experience the military history articles are spot on."
A-Class reviews: the usual four-day review period may now be extended by up to three days (ie seven days in total) in the following circumstances:
the article has no opposes but has insufficient support for promotion or
the article's nominator requests more time to resolve matters arising during the review.
The special projects department has opened. It will focus on specific ad-hoc high-priority tasks and implement them with informal, short-term groups of editors.

The Contest department has completed its fifteenth month of competition, which saw 15 entries. The top scorer this month is JonCatalan with 32 points, followed by Cam with 20 points. Ed!, David Underdown, CyclonicWhirlwind, and Blnguyen also fielded entries. Blnguyen remains the overall leader, with 193 points in total. The Chevrons go to JonCatalan and Cam gets the Writer's Barnstar. You are encouraged to submit any articles you are working on as entries.

I see that you are the creator of the map Image:Proposed postwar Japan occupation zones.png. Recently this map was used in the Occupied Japan article, but was removed twice by another user who first claimed it was misleading (not sure how a map of proposed zones that were abandoned could mislead anyone who read the article and caption....) and then removed it again claiming it was uncited in the text (I've seen several articles with maps where the maps haven't been cited directly in the text so I don't see why this article has to be so special) and that the image itself had no citations even though it is quite obvious that your image is very, very similar to another image that is based off plans in the American National Archives as it's author claims (Image:Divide-and-rule_plan_of_Japan.png - in fact based on the description of that second image, your image represents the adjustment in some of the proposed zones). Since Nick apparently can't be bothered to investigate the images himself by talking to the image authors (even though he apparently needs citations in the text of Occupied Japan article explicitly stating that the USSR was to occupy the northern half of Honshu), I've taken the initiative to write to you myself with regards to your map.
So would it be possible for you to clarify the situation? I'm not sure if User:Haruno Akiha (the author of the other map which your's seems to be based off) would also be able to add some clarity (should Haruno also be asked about this?).
Thanks for taking the time to read this, your map and Haruno's are interesting as it is very hard to find anything online about the occupation of Japan other than what the American Army and MacArthur did (even information about the British Commonwealth Occupation Force and it's zone is relatively rare - and the BCOF zone was almost the same as the proposed British zones in both maps with Kyushu being replaced by Shikoku). Since you normally respond on other user's talk pages, perhaps you might prefer to respond in the discussion section of the Occupied Japan article? 72.27.83.179 (talk) 21:11, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
