No encyclopedia is an appropriate source for academic research, they are tertiary sources. Encyclopedias like Wikipedia are starting points for general familiarization with a topic and a way to find more detailed sources of information. Don't vandalize Wikipedia to prove a nonexistent point. This is apart from the fact that the great majority of vandalism is found and removed by volunteer editors almost immediately.
