July 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen (Uilholdings) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.

There are two issues with this:

  1. It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
  2. Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.

Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. The article in question is Berkshire Gas. Thank you. Alan the Roving Ambassador (User:N5iln) (talk) 17:54, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last and only warning. You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize a page, as you did with this edit to Berkshire Gas. Alan the Roving Ambassador (User:N5iln) (talk) 17:56, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Maybe we're going about this wrong. We (yes, I represent UIL Holdings Corporation) noticed that the Berkshire Gas page was erroneously redirecting to Iberdrola USA. Berkshire was previously a subsidiary of Iberdrola USA, but was bought out by our company last year. My change was hardly vandalism -- I was correcting erroneous information. I adopted the UILHoldings name specifically to avoid the appearance that I was concealing a conflict of interest. I plan to monitor this and related articles for inaccurate information, and to add factual information that is missing from the article. I am not interested in deleting unflattering information, but it's important to us that the facts are right. (I'm glad to see that some badly-out-of-date information was recently removed by Wikipedians. In any case, would it be better to do this under my private username and disclose the conflict of interest? Uilholdings (talk) 18:35, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored your changes, but I have blocked this account from further edits because Wikipedia does not permit usernames to match the name of a business. Please feel free to sign up with a different username. Thank you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:39, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. I was trying to be up-front, but I guess I was going about it wrong.Uilholdings (talk) 18:41, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
