Edmond Rzik

Edmond Rizk (1934-) is a former Lebanese politician, lawyer, deputy and minister. Growing up and Education Edmond Rizk was born on March 11, 1934 in the southern Lebanese town of Jazeen. Rizk defines himself as "Lebanese... In my college”, because Lebanese include humanity in its most beautiful manifestations"[1]and "as an authentic Arab and not an emergency"[2] while he says about his family that it is "Lebanese, Maronite, with an Arab identity and an Islamic kinship." [3] His father Amin Rizk (1890-1983) was a writer, journalist, poet and editor-in-chief of al-Hadith and Al-Rawad newspapers. [3] Career Life He has been a lawyer since 1958 and has been included in the office of MP Shafiq Nassif. He was part of the team of lawyers who defended Samir Geagea after his arrest in 1994 and also called on Bashir Gemayel's family in the case of his assassination. He also worked in the field of education, where he studied Arabic language and literature in the schools of wisdom and eligibility for girls, the Antonine Institute in Baabda and the Lebanese Institute in a hostel. [4] Rizk was active for many years in journalism and radio and was a member of the Editors' Guild and wrote in Pioneers, Call of the Homeland, Politics, Lights, Work, Day, Major General, Al-Bayrak, Accidents, March... He also worked as a political commentator for Radio Lebanon and Lebanon TV. [4] In the Kataib Area In 1945, Edmond Rezik joined the "Juvenile Squad" of the Lebanese Brigades, which was then active as a youth organization. He was also tasked with representing the party in the follow-up and coordination committee set up by the Tripartite Alliance to formulate a joint program that would bring the brigades together with the Liberals, the National Bloc and independents in preparation for the 1968 elections. Rizk was one of the 30 NATO candidates who won those elections and the first battalion in the Jazeen district to enter parliament. He left the party in 1984 shortly after the death of its founder Pierre Gemayel after entering into a dispute with his new leadership.

In the Parliament Edmond Rizk entered parliament in 1968 after winning one of the two Maronite seats from The Jazeen district after he managed to break through the competition Shihabi list led by Jean Aziz, and received 8,025 votes against 7,812 for Maron Kanaan. [6] In the 1972 elections, a full list won 8,324 votes, while his Maronite ally Farid Sarhal won 8,873 votes and their Roman Catholic colleague Nadim Salem won 8,648. [7] He participated as a deputy in the presidential elections of 1970, 1976, August 1982, September 1982, November 5, 1989 and November 22, 1989. Rizk continued to be active in the parliamentary bloc until his resignation in 1984 with Louis Abu Sharaf after they objected to voting for Hussein Husseini to head the council. Between 1987 and 1989, he belonged to the independent parliamentary bloc. He played an important role in drafting the Taif Agreement as a member of the committee drafting the document of national accord, until it became seen as one of the references to the constitution that emerged from it. In 2001, he founded the company of a number of deputies who participated in the conference "Meeting the Document and the Constitution". Since 1992, he has been away from participating in parliamentary elections, and in 2018 his son Amin ran in the first southern district (Sidon-Jazeen) in alliance with the Future Movement but was defeated by Ibrahim Azar and Ziad Aswad.
