Proposed deletion of Nova (programming language)[edit]

The article Nova (programming language) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to be a notable programming language

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi, thanks for email and message. Please note that you should not remove speedy deletion tags yourself, especially when you have made no change to the content. It's pointless anyway, eventually a bot will automatically replace the SD tag and leave you a message. I deleted your recent article because

It did not provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that it meets the notability guidelines. The linked website is clearly not independent. The fact that something exists does not make it notable.
The article was a copyright violation, substantially copied from here, a page clearly labelled Copyright 2002 - 2010 navgen.com. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly that the text is public domain. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright isn't sufficient.
It was written in a promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic. Examples of unsourced claims presented as fact include: Highly versatile... familiar style... Simplicity... Versatility... Good performance and low memory usage... Fault tolerant
You may have a conflict of interest when it comes to editing articles about this subject. If, after reading the information about notability linked above, you still believe that your topic is notable enough for a Wikipedia article (and that there is significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources), you could, if you wish, post a request at Wikipedia:Requested articles for the article to be created. See also Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest.

The point of speedy deletion is that pages that clearly do not meet our criteria in terms of notability, neutrality and free content can be deleted without warning, that's why it's called speedy deletion. As to your ownership of the site, you clearly either didn't read, or failed to understand the items above. You are very wrong to just delete whole pages without properly checking them first. Any of the other issues you stated could of been fixed by myself. It is really bad how you only state these *AFTER* you have deleted my whole page. So much for being kind and helpful, just downright rude and ruthless. Have you checked the out the other languages listed, can you really vouch for all of them being notable? I don't think so. You best get busy deleting again! Rack up those edit points like in a video game, you might get promoted if you get a high score!

The time I spent creating the wiki page is lost and unrecoverable, all the source lost, no thanks to you! How can that be right! Since when have you been an authority on all programming languages! Wikipedia will never be the same again for me!

There is nothing to stop you creating a revised and acceptable version of your article, or posting similar material on, for example, a Facebook or similar page. I'm sorry that you have not had a positive experience, but Wikipedia is very strict when it comes to copyright or advertising. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 17:14, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My whole page was deleted because it was not notable, not for copyright reasons. It is just wrong to delete stuff, without good reason and not even trying to help the individual concerned. You made no attempt to contact me before you deleted the page. It was just deleted in seconds. How can you justify that!

Only a small portion was taken from my web site and even that was edited, so not to sound promotional in any way. The original content I typed in Wikipedia has been deleted with the whole page. Why didn't you just delete some of the content and not the whole page?

I agree that the notability of my programming language is debatable, but I deserve better treatment than instant deletion!

I may take this further and make a formal complaint!

That, of course, is your right. It occurs to me that there is nothing to stop you having the non-copyright part of the text, which follows below:

Development began in March 2002 with the first working release in June 2003. There has been steady continuous development since. The latest stable release 0.6.0 was released at the end of 2011.

The Nova compiler and runtime also features browser plugins including IE. And the ability to run OpenGL or Direct3D graphics in a web browser, via the plugins. Direct3D is limited to the Windows platform.

Version 0.7.0 is currently in development, and is due for release during the third quarter of 2012. It will add exception handling capabilities to the language. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:11, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Great, many thanks for getting back to me. We can hopefully make this constructive. I think that the main thing preventing my Language page is the notability of it. I agree that this is somewhat debatable. I have a link from an external site that features the use of my language (06/28/2006). It was not done by myself, so it is not self promoting.

Plus a link to my own website, which I will not directly copy content from. I fully respect the copyright principles and will work hard to conform to them.

Would there be anything else, that you would require? Would you want me to point out similar or more obscure languages already featured on Wikipedia, to assist your investigation?
