Please explain

[edit]

Please explain why you would find a need to dictate that a link I added to the Edward Ord site would be irrelevant. The item demonstrates an interesting piece of the Ord family history. All of my items are very well researched. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomyarbro (talkcontribs) 01:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It's about an artifact owned by someone not even mentioned in the Ord bio article. If you want to include something in the article about James Lycurgus Ord, or write a separate article about him, the link would have some relevance because it contains biographical info on that person (although not enough to state what his relation to the general was). The issue of relevance is whether something in the link tells us information that is both interesting and important about the subject of the article. Otherwise, Wikipedia classifies it as trivia and discourages its inclusion. Although the level of interest is arguable, it provides no important information to the context of the article as written. Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. My pleasure, I want the articles to be as concise and accurate as possible.
