Replaceable fair use File:Michael_Ramirez_cartoon_allegedly_threatening_President_Bush.gif

Thanks for uploading File:Michael_Ramirez_cartoon_allegedly_threatening_President_Bush.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 08:22, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

February 2010

Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, but when you add or change content (particularly if you change facts and figures), as you have to the article Split sentence, please cite a reliable source for the content of your edit. This helps maintain our policy of verifiability. Take a look at Wikipedia:Citing sources for information about how to cite sources and the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Removal of comment at MfD

Hi, Tisane, I've restored the comment you removed at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Daniel TIsdale because it is best to retain all of the discussion for history purposes. Also, I've added the <s> and </s> tags to your "Move to mainspace" comment because you changed your vote to "keep". If you wish to unstrike that comment, feel free to do so. Updated DYK query On February 20, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Threatening the President of the United States, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Speedy deletion of "National Inflation Association"

A page you created, National Inflation Association, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how it is important or significant, and thus why it should be included in an encyclopedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and the guidelines for companies in particular.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

File copyright problem with File:John Patrick Bedell Washoe County Jail photo.JPEG

Thank you for uploading File:John Patrick Bedell Washoe County Jail photo.JPEG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Fred the Oyster (talk) 00:41, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

RPED extension

Hi, that looks really interesting! I'll take a look and see if I can use it - it would certainly be very useful. At the moment, I just style everything blue and have a link on the "page not found" error - this would be much nicer. Thanks for the link, and thanks for working on it :) --h2g2bob (talk) 00:19, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Talk:2010 Pentagon shooting page

the below information is incorrect, this text is still on the current talk page, I missed it as it is hidden as an archived debate under this heading: "personal attacks and general commentary not related to article improvement" sorry for the confusion. cheers, Jamie —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.108.77.192 (talk) 09:21, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Tisane,

I was looking at the "Talk:2010 Pentagon shooting" history pages and noticed this:

Alison, you, personally, deleted a page that would definitely be of interest to anyone wanting to understand the shooter mere hours after the shooting with a offhanded 'offtopic'. But the page had been there for months - it magically became 'offtopic' mere hours after the shooting? Since then you and other editors on Meta Wiki have been actively suppressing any commentary about that deletion. For you to revert the edit *here* about something directly involving yourself with an airy wave of your hand without even acknowledging your own direct involvment is dishonest. Benjamin Franz (talk) 03:18, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

And now a 1 YEAR block has been put on the IP address I used to post to Meta. Strangely, this happened after I posted here - and without any additional posts to Meta. Allegedly my home computer is a 'Open Proxy' or a 'Zombie'. News to me. I had ignored the political whinging over the last few years about how Wikipedia had descended into blatant abuse of power by admins and sysops. Evidently I was wrong. Benjamin Franz (talk) 05:23, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

These above comments were deleted from the talk page too. I don't think it is right that this user has been treated this way, it looks to me like he was being conscientious. I don't know if there is anything we can do about it, what do you think?

cheers, Jamie24.108.77.192 (talk) 09:05, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Kristin Davis.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Kristin Davis.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 02:10, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Barnstar for you

For your well put lines:

"Wikipedia's misguided reliance on what lamestream academia considers 'reliable sources' is going to become more and more unworkable as academic journals and such decrease in importance and influence, and self-published sources become more and more prevalent. But a reform of the system would require an overhaul not just of sourcing policy but of all the other policies, such as notability, that are tied to it. And I just don't see that happening anytime soon, if ever."

dear tisane,

my name is predrag miljevic and i am a student at the university of illinois at chicago (uic). you can call me sentimental but as i am about to graduate from this great university i was browsing through the "uic site" on wikipedia. i have a suggestion for some editing which i am writing to you about since i am very new to this concept and have never edited on wikipedia before (i don't even have an account). i found your name by clicking on the discussion/history button and really hope you can help me with that.

my suggestion, what i would like to add, is the following and is concerned with notable faculty and alumni:

Radovan Jelasic is the current governor of the national bank of serbia. his personal "wikipedia site" lists a short academic biography and mentions the university of illinois at chicago as he obtained a Master's degree of Business in Finance from there. this is the direct link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radovan_Jela%C5%A1i%C4%87 clicking on this link you will also find a picture of him that would be more than suitable to use.

can you add radovan jelasic, the governor of the national bank of serbia, to the notable uic alumni section of their wikipedia site? as radovan jelasic is of serbian, although born in Hungary, and chicago has the largest serbian population outside of serbia, i am sure and i know for a fact that many people would like and appreciated that kind of change.

if you have any concerns, suggestions or comments please don hesitate do contact me under [email protected].

thank you very much for your time.

respectfully,

A tag has been placed on QualiaSoup requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. &dorno rocks. Deletion nomination of Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Kochtopus

blanked page

Hi Tisane, this is a message from an automated bot, regarding Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Kochtopus. You blanked the page and, since you are its sole author, FrescoBot has interpreted it as a request for deletion of the page and asked administrators to satisfy the requests per speedy deletion criterion G7. Next time you want a page that you've created deleted, you can explicitly request the deletion by inserting the text {{db-author}}. If you didn't want the page deleted, please remove the {{db-author}} tag from the page and undo your blanking or put some content in the page. Admins are able to recover deleted pages. Please do not contact the bot operator for issues not related with bot's behaviour. To opt out of these bot messages, add {{bots|deny=FrescoBot}} somewhere on your talk page. -- FrescoBot (msg) 00:59, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Protest permit, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Wikipedia is NOT a dictionary

You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.

Thank you.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ShockMetric 20:13, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Development move

There are a lot of things that need to be changed whenever a centralized discussion page like one of the village pumps is moved, so it would be better to get a consensus going first rather than possibly having to change this multiple times, creating a mess of redirects and such, and confusing page watchers. Equazcion (talk) 17:55, 25 Apr 2010 (UTC)

Assassinating, kidnapping, and assaulting the government officials of the United States

I feel that this article does not have enough notability. It basically just says that all of this is a crime, and only cites the law. I do not see how this topic warrants its own article. --Fiftytwo thirty (talk) 21:18, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Jury duty article.

I noticed you were involved in the Jury Duty article. How to I add in references into the content I just put in? JasonHockeyGuy (talk) 03:52, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

UploadBot

It appears that the download for mw:Manual:Wikibot is no longer available. I don't have a copy of the original, is there another source for the files? — surlyanduncouth (talk) 02:35, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

OK, I have the files. It's not recognising php as a command though. Is that fixable? — surlyanduncouth (talk) 04:23, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
OK, I got it working after downloading PHP (Vista, by the way). It appears as though I log in successfully, but it stops and quits soon after. I got testbot working correctly however (he added "Hello world!" to the sandbox). I think it has something to do with $handle, but I'm not certain for obvious reasons. — surlyanduncouth (talk) 05:24, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
It seems it was a combination of both of those errors. It works beautifully. Thank you so much! — surlyanduncouth (talk) 06:34, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Autoreviewer rights

I put in a request on your behalf. Hope that's okay. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 19:46, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 19:54, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on March for the Cure requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. A tag has been placed on Proving too much requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

Hi Tisane, I contested the speedy deletion of proving too much on your behalf. The rationale used seems spurious and it looks to be the beginnings of a fine article. You may want to watchlist it to monitor the progress. Zelse81 (talk) 21:07, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome. I agree, for what it's worth - a huge number of very good articles are deleted more and more because of people being far too rigid in applying the criteria. We really need a common-sense litmus test - there's an obvious difference between a stub article that is encyclopedic and the manifold articles which consist of teenagers making fun of each other, Myspace bands, product spam and the like. That or some sort of dump where Speedy'd articles would be stored for, say, a week after they're deleted, for secondary review. Well, enough of my ranting - good luck and good wiki-ing to you. Zelse81 (talk) 10:11, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
Heh, you just touched the third rail of wiki-politics. Tisane talk/stalk 16:02, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
