Your invitation to participate in a Wikimedia-approved survey in online behavior.

[edit]

Hello, my name is Michael Tsikerdekis[1][2], currently involved as a student in full time academic research at Masaryk University. I am writing to you to kindly invite you to participate in an online survey about interface and online collaboration on Wikipedia. The survey has been reviewed and approved by the Wikimedia Foundation Research Committee.

I am contacting you because you were randomly selected from a list of active editors. The survey should take about 7 to 10 minutes to complete, and it is very straightforward.

Wikipedia is an open project by nature. Let’s create new knowledge for everyone! :-)

To take part in the survey please follow the link: tsikerdekis.wuwcorp.com/pr/survey/?user=79192617 (HTTPS).

Best Regards, Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 10:37, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PS: The results from the research will become available online for everyone and will be published in an open access journal.

UPDATE: This is the second and final notification for participating in this study. Your help is essential for having concrete results and knowledge that we all can share. I would like to thank you for your time and as always for any questions, comments or ideas do not hesitate to contact me. PS: As a thank you for your efforts and participation in Wikipedia Research you will receive a Research Participation Barnstar after the end of the study. --Michael Tsikerdekis (talk) 19:57, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Black Rainbow

[edit]

I noticed you edit quite frequently on Porcelain Black articles! If you're interested, I've started the Black Rainbow page in my sandbox and you could edit freely over there! I could use some help grammatically and some extra eyes for reliable sources :) WikiUhOh (talk) 01:17, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So according to Porcelain's twitter, she claims she never confirmed the albums track listing and name....... What is wrong with this woman??? I really feel like we can control this albums release date and content through the wikipedia page! LMFAOOOOO WikiUhOh (talk) 21:15, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ugh yes!! And wikipedia is so stubborn with it's sources, i feel like we're already pushing it with the critical reception websites already used in Naughty Naughty... But oh well, a lot of reliable sources should review the album, right? :D Whenever that comes out -_________- WikiUhOh (talk) 22:11, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Btw, I've begun work on a "How Do You Love Someone?" page. Since Black is recovering it, it's elligible for it's own article, we just need its official release and/or the albums official release. Idk I have this feeling to let you know these things, since you are practically the only other trainwreck on here! HAHAHAAAA WikiUhOh (talk) 14:35, 22 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Help Survey

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out this brief survey about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. License tagging for File:Roman Holiday.ogg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Roman Holiday.ogg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 10:05, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thevampireashlee, Thanks for your note. I'm quite happy for you to continue editing/improving the article, provided that it involves simple things such as correcting spelling, improving grammar, etc. Life gets a bit more difficult for the reviewer if the editing involves moving text around and/or replacing big blocks of text. So if you could hold back any of those big changes that would be great. Pyrotec (talk) 08:32, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj took forever! I'm so glad that it was passed, and thankful for all your help as it did need significantly improving in parts. The Madonna article is going to be another daunting challenge, so your assistance would really be needed. I would be glad to look over Porcelain Black - I'm not familiar with this artist at all, but I think I could tidy some things up. :) Jennie | 10:32, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think it could be good enough for GA status, if you want to nominate it, then I would be happy to review it for you. Jennie | 10:37, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've accepted to review it and I will probably later today. Ahh, I see - reviewing GA's is not that hard to be honest, if you want more of an idea I would recommend looking at WP:GACN, which is probably the most informative article of all. I think Madonna is a little tricky at this stage, but if you look through WP:GA/N - is there anything your interested in reviewing - I would say to just jump right in! Porcelain Black

[edit]

Hello!

I'm sorry about leaving you waiting with one section to go, but I have been a little busy recently so I managed to complete it just now. Congratulations - Porcelain Black has been promoted to good article status. I would add that the article may well come under reassessment in months/years to come as the artist hasn't released her debut album yet (and I have a feeling she may be quite big), so the article might come under major expansion/disruption. But for now, well done and congratulations on making a high-quality article of this length! :) Jennie | 20:58, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's such a shame! It must be annoying to have to wait for so long for a debut album. To think I'm annoyed waiting for an album over 2 years, when you and other fans have waited 6! I hope you get it soon, how is your GA reviewing going? Jennie | 21:54, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh none in particular! I was just referring to the average time for artists like Beyonce and Nicki Minaj that I have to wait :) Jennie | 22:14, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lana Del Rey

[edit]

Hello there. As you appear to be one of the most active users who edit Lana Del Rey articles, I just wanted to clear something up with you. The Paradise Edition release is just like Lady Gaga's Fame Monster release back in 2009. All singles released are from the EP. The new EP is simply packaged with the original album in some editions. Zac (talk · contribs) 21:16, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is not. The Fame Monster is an EP. In this case, two releases exist. Born to Die - The Paradise Edition is a re-release including the songs from Born to Die and Paradise. Paradise is an EP only consisting of 8 songs. The Fame Monster was supposed to be a re-release but was released as an EP instead, so you can't compare the two. The Paradise EP isn't even released worldwide so you can't say all of the singles are released from the EP. teammathi (talk) 11:20, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, do you really think that it should be part of Madonna's WikiPRoject, or any other artists'? Xwomanizerx (talk) 15:12, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not interested in an edit-war so I think we should discuss this and come to a conclusion here. Lana Del Rey: I think letting the sentences start with the date the event happened, makes everything clearer and neater. Like this, the reader knows from the beginning exactly when something happened. Your edits were good faith-edits but they weren't necessary. It is absolutely not messy, it is neater and easier to read and understand. Paradise (EP): I think Template:Cite web#Examples and Template:Cite news#Examples are pretty clear on how the references should be formatted. It is a lot neater this way, easier to read and easier to edit. Without the spacing every reference is just one big chunk of words which is hard to edit. teammathi (talk) 19:05, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree that this type of formatting for the source is neater, but first, let me explain that the edits you have made to Paradise and Lana Del Rey actually contain more spaces than are presented in those examples. Besides, I am using the citation tool that appears in the tool bar every time you open an edit window. The spacing this tool employs must be correct, since it's live across all of Wikipedia every time you edit a page. Personally, I think it's easier to read, locate, and mend sources when there are less spaces; that's my personal opinion which you seem to disagree with.
As far as prose goes, starting every sentence with "On this day," and "On that day," is not only boring, but it seems to be advised against in the manual of style. First and foremost, I have participated in the Good Article project here on Wikipedia, as well as on various other wikis (some of which I am an administrator). I also have a degree in Creative Writing; I know good prose when I read it. English also happens to be my native language. That aside, I have witnessed on Wikipedia that this exact type of sentence structure has failed Featured Article nominations, as in: the article failed becoming a Featured Article because of this same exact phrasing. I want this article to shine and reading sentences that start with the exact same formula is bland and reads like a chronology, which the Lana Del Rey is not. What is the harm in trying to make the article the best that it can be? The prose is still 100% accurate. After my edits, more sentence variation exists, making it "exciting, even brilliant, of a professional standard;" as the the Featured Article criteria outlines. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 19:18, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I use this citation tool: http://toolserver.org/~magnus/makeref.php which formats the references like this and I just think it's neater and easier to edit by other editors. I agree that the article needed more sentence variation but this is an encyclopedia, so the dates should definitely be included. teammathi (talk) 19:26, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I totally agree. Dates make the world go 'round, and I've tried to keep them in. But, it seems a bit over the top to have one sentence reading, "On October 12, she did this." then, having the next sentence read, "On October 14, she did this." when we could just say something like, "On this day, she did this. Two days later, she did this." It's more cohesive. At any rate, I think we have a third party interested in the debate. They edited Paradise (EP) under as an IP. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 19:33, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. is this tool an official software of Wikipedia? It appears to be a user-creation. The one I'm using is embedded right into the plain-jane edit window. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 19:34, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that we shouldn't add dates that are that close to one another. I found the tool here: Help:Citation_tools#Tools. I never saw that edit tool. I guess I'll start using that from now on. teammathi (talk) 19:49, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's easier to use. :) --Thevampireashlee (talk) 19:56, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
At this rate, I don't mind if you completely undo my changes. As of late, I've been extremely discouraged from contributing to Wikipedia. I feel as though my contributions are unwanted (not by you). There are editors who have embarked on a personal vendetta against me, and I'm tired of dealing with it. Wikipedia should be fun. It shouldn't be about proving a point or attacking people who aren't in your clique. I'm sorry if I've offended you in any way. It's really not about you at all. I felt like we could collaborate and work things out, which is very very rare around here I've noticed. --Thevampireashlee (talk) 21:05, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You know what sucks here? Editors who think they know better and revert editors who actually do know better. See Paradise (EP): "dangling modifier" has nothing to do with that construction; you want to look at Comma#Parenthetical_phrases. Happy days, 66.168.247.159 (talk) 21:45, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thevampireashlee, I completely understand. I've also been discouraged from contributing to Wikipedia for a few weeks. You didn't offend me at all and you've contributed significantly to the articles as far as I've noticed. teammathi (talk) 22:23, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

November 2012

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I have noticed that some of your recent genre changes, such as the one you made to Wanessa, have conflicted with our neutral point of view and verifiability policies. While we invite all users to contribute constructively to Wikipedia, we urge all editors to provide reliable sources for edits made. When others disagree, we recommend you to seek consensus for certain edits. Thank you. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 20:49, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from changing genres, as you did to Enrique Iglesias, without providing a source and without establishing a consensus on the article's talk page first. Genre changes to suit your own point of view are considered disruptive. Thank you. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:46, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And this is for all the other pages. Just because an artist releases a few works within a genre doesn't make that it must be labelled by it. Also note that the correct genres are Pop and electronic music per Template:Infobox musical artist: "The genre or genres of music performed by the act. Aim for generality (e.g. Hip hop rather than East Coast hip hop)." Just because the "sky is blue" does not mean it cannot have other tones. And you are not discussing about the colour of the clothes they wear, you are editing WP:BLPs, you have to understand the difference. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 01:46, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want you to leave Wikipedia, your editing was totally irrelevant to me until today when I saw your editing. You are basing on Wikipedia articles or what you hear, and using an essay as a shield, which is a weak defense. Regardless if BLP applies or not, WP:V do applies, and therefore the whole pillars, and it doesn't matter that Minaj has two albums with electropop/synthpop influences those are not their genres (read both articles, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and Pink Friday), also, that is not a justification for Enrique Iglesias, Paris Hilton or others. Iglesias released multiple Latin pop albums throughout his life, and Hilton released just one album with a few or none (I never heard that album) electropop songs--also with no references of electropop style. Even if they released one song or album with synthpop influences, their whole music career should be labelled like that, like in Aguilera's or Ciccone's biographies? This is not a vendetta of nothing, it is just you that cannot discuss properly with other people when there are talk pages, and mine seems to be the second talk page out of multiple pages you edited on October 15 to discuss if "synthpop" is a correct genre. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 03:50, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Medoner.JPG)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Medoner.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:18, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit to Pink Friday

[edit]

I partially reverted your recent edit to Pink Friday. The Beat.au article you cited for electropop as a genre on the album only mentioned it as an element in Minaj's vocals/lyrics; the 6th paragraph ("Minaj’s impish humour and played-up incredulity works in bursts, but sounds positively insipid when combined with a cheesy electro-pop backing", followed by examples of lyrics/vocals) Both the Allmusic and Billboard citations cite the combination of "hip hop, R&B, and pop", so that choice is the strongest in being supported. I kept the genre categories, although the style guide for WP:ALBUMS (here) suggests to exclude those and instead place them at the artist's albums category page here (the particular genre categories you added may only apply to the two studio albums, although the mixtapes included in Category:Nicki Minaj albums shouldnt be there to begin with) Dan56 (talk) 01:10, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit to Pink Friday (again?)

[edit]

Stop looking for sources that mention "electro-pop". The paragraph you added to the composition section is original research; synthesizing sources to suit your interpretation ("the vast application of the electropop genre"). Stick to what the sources say; none of the sources you cited explicitly say "especially electropop, on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. Her debut album Pink Friday marked her exploration of the genre, spawning a string of electro-hits". Per WP:NOR, "Best practice is to research the most reliable sources on the topic and summarize what they say in your own words, with each statement in the article attributable to a source that makes that statement explicitly." Not the Boombox (some AOL blogs) and a minor Australian music magazine, whose only mention of "electropop" is a critical commentary on Minaj's performance: "Minaj's impish humour and played-up incredulity works in bursts, but sounds positively insipid when combined with a cheesy electro-pop backing." Do not restore your changes without addressing your proposed changes at the article's talk page and addressing the guidelines I cited. Original research just cant be accepted. Hand-coding

[edit]

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:24, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Blue Velvet Bobby Vinton.ogg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Blue Velvet Bobby Vinton.ogg, which you've sourced to https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/blue-velvet/id192965779?i=192966046. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:41, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edit

[edit]

Hi Thevampireashlee,

just wanted to ask for the reason you reverted my edit of Glamberts as stan-group of Adam Lambert? Is there something wrong with this? I understand if you don't want other ppl to edit your articles. In such case, can you please add Glamberts on the list? I think they are quite significant group of fans and deserves to be there. Thank you!

(This is my first time I write on a 'Talk' thread so I hope I did it right. And I apologize for my English, it's not my first language.)

Reverted edit - again

[edit]

Thank you for the answer. I added the information about Glamberts again with the sources this time. I hope it's all right now.

Lana Del Rey

[edit]

In Lana Del Rey's article, you added the info about tropico, however, you made a mistake: its "Bel air", "Body electric", and "Gods and Monsters"...not "Burning desire". Source. So in the 2013: The Great Gatsby, Tropico, and third studio album section, the part where it says "Alongside Paradise, Del Rey plans to launch a short film titled Tropico that features the songs "Bel Air", "Body Electric", and "Burning Desire", can you please fix that and replace "burning desire" with "Gods and Monsters". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.238.143.251 (talk) 01:15, 29 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want to collaborate in the edition of Jessie J's page?

[edit]

Hi, nightly boy, how was hunting?, jajaja, joking. I'm JD3rulo, the thing is that I'm a huge fan of Jessie J, I have made changes in her page, but other users have removed them, replying that the links I referred to don't belong to reliable sources. So I'm wondering if you could dedicate part of your time in helping me to fill some topics that are abandoned, such as Jessie J's vocal type, range and also writing updated news about her career lately. I hope you can help me, cause it seems Jessie's page has been forgotten. If you need some help to write about any article or making research, you can count on me, so this is the only thing I can give you: my friendship to make wikipedia a better and updated site. Chao, have a nice day!JD3rulo (talk) 04:52, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jessie J

[edit]

Hi, I read the message you left in my talk page, thanks for helping me. I'll keep searching for reliable sources. So, what do you think: Is Jessie a soprano, mezzo-soprano or contralto? I think she's a mezzo. If you need some help for updating any article or creating a new one, you can count on me, for sure, I'll support you. Thanks for answering!
