A tag has been placed on File:Current members, Madison Rising, 2014.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —C.Fred (talk) 03:59, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • I see you've uploaded this image to Commons and indicated that Purple Eagle Entertainment has released the image. Have you had Purple Eagle contact Commons to verify the donation? —C.Fred (talk) 01:16, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have authorization from Purple Eagle Entertainment to use the image, and can provide proof if needed.TheGr8Gonzo (talk) 01:31, 19 May 2014 (UTC) (copied from User talk:C.Fred)[reply]
Yes, you do need to provide proof. Well, actually, they need to provide proof, since they're the ones giving up the rights to the image. (Remember, if it's under a valid free license, anybody can use it for any purpose, including commercial reuse.) —C.Fred (talk) 01:52, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, great. What do I need to tell them to provide in the way of authorization?TheGr8Gonzo (talk) 02:29, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure exactly what Commons requires, but it will probably be a statement from them that they have released the image, irrevocably, under a free license (GFDL, Creative Commons, or into the public domain) and that the image can be reused for any purpose, including commercial reuse, with nothing more than acknowledgment required. —C.Fred (talk) 02:43, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just to be clear about this new image[edit]

Not that I'm planning to do any of these activities, but Purple Eagle has given consent for File:Madison Rising, current members.jpg to be used for any purpose, including but not limited to t-shirts, posters, and derivative works criticizing or mocking the band? If your claim is correct and the image is in the public domain, they have no further control over how that image is used. —C.Fred (talk) 16:56, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I will have printed authorization for use of the image within the hour or shortly thereafter.TheGr8Gonzo (talk) 17:01, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Madison Rising with Bundy in Nevada.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Madison Rising with Bundy in Nevada.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 00:58, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I received written permission to use any and all Madison Rising images from Purple Eagle Entertainment, specifically, the band manager, Richard Mgrdechian. As per the guidelines, I forwarded that email to [email protected], yet my pictures were still deleted. I'm just beginning to contribute to Wikipedia, so if I can get some advice and direction from users such as yourself, it would be much appreciated. I need all the help I can get! Orphaned non-free image File:Madison Rising band members.jpg[edit]

However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for File:Madison Rising - American Hero album cover.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Madison Rising - American Hero album cover.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 04:00, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please also make sure you apply the right license tag to the image. Per the source you cited, this image is under a CC BY-NC-SA 2.0 license. —C.Fred (talk) 04:10, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Madison Rising band members.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[1][2]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because images on Wikipedia need to be compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike or another free license, which allow anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. Note, if you did create this file, you may want to upload it to Wikimedia Commons, which will allow the image to be accessed by all Wikimedia Foundation projects (which include the various localized versions of Wikipedia)

If you did not create this media file, please understand that the vast majority of images found on the internet are not appropriate for Wikipedia. Most content on the internet is copyrighted and the creator of the image has exclusive rights to use it. Wikipedia respects the copyrights of others - do not upload images that violate others' copyrights. In certain limited cases, we may be able to use an image under a claim of fair use - if you are certain that fair use would apply here, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list. If no fair use rationale applies, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —C.Fred (talk) 04:28, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry but I thought the cc by sa 4.0 was the correct license. If not, can you please explain why? TheGr8Gonzo (talk) 04:42, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Because that's not the license specified at https://www.flickr.com/photos/125439942@N03/14487448027/, where you got the image from. If you click the "Some rights reserved" text on the page, it shows that time image is under a Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic license. —C.Fred (talk) 04:48, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. I thought it was 4.0 license. I'll adjust accordingly. TheGr8Gonzo (talk) 05:01, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem: Richard Meredith Hart[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Richard Meredith Hart, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to contain material copied from www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/fhaaj, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Richard Meredith Hart saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.

Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Mkativerata (talk) 10:33, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • The template message above isn't overly helpful in your case, sorry. The problem with the article is not that you copied it from somewhere else -- you didn't. There's certainly no suggestion that you deliberately violated any copyright. That's because you put effort into re-wording it. The difficulty is that the re-wording isn't really sufficient to get around the website's copyright to the text. The following wikipedia policy page can explain it better than me: WP:PARAPHRASE. Really, an article has to be completely in your own words (and structure) to avoid any copyright problems. Cheers --Mkativerata (talk) 10:43, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
