Civility?
How do you explain this edit summary of yours? "I will personally hunt down and exterminate the next person to write FreEmantle!" as seen here. You want to question me on civil edit summaries? May be you should pay more attention to what you write, before questioning others. And by the way who deserves civility? Brad Hogg? A person who shouted obscenties at Indians and got away because Indians were magnanimous? Please... By the way, what was so unicivil about my edit summary that touched a raw nerve in you? That summary was not directed at you, so you rather not lose sleep over it. It's all in the game, mate, as the Aussies say. -- ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits 14:39, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

AWB and the wrong edit summary
Quite ironic that the one thing you can't edit if you make a mistake in it is the edit summary. Especially when you are doing bulk changes using AWB, it pays to read it every now and then, in case you stuff it up! Sorry about confusing people with mentions of unencyclopedic round by round goal lists! The-Pope (talk) 16:00, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

WA project noticeboard
I apparently have taken issue with an cfd item you were invovled in - at the wa noticeboard - without realising you were one of us - obviously i owe you a round or two for that - cheers SatuSuro 13:42, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- yep and if sats brought everyone this side of the rabbit proof fence the round he says he owes, it would have a noticeable impact to the level of contributions until daylight savings returns... Gnangarra 14:17, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Dream Team/Victoria etc
Hi. I guess you could argue though, that this final squad have each been presented with the guernseys, guernsey numbers, been part of the final team photo etc. In any case, happy with to put it all up for discussion on the WikiProject AFL page and come to some sort of conclusion. If there's a want to adjust it to the final team of 25 that runs out on the ground, then will happily adjust. Cheers. Boomtish (talk) 09:43, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, I understand where you're coming from. I guess my point was, in the case of someone like Jonathan Brown, who has been named Captain of team, has been selected to represent Victoria etc..if he were to pull out last minute, do we still count his selection and captaincy appointment as an accolade? I can think of reasons why we would and why we wouldn't basically. But yes, it will be reviewed come the weekend. Cheers. Boomtish (talk) 11:49, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello: just wondering, why the edit on the editors? The information was in the seven-part series the paper recently published - should I have referenced the list more explicitly? Davidcohen (talk) 02:41, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Scuse the comments re you at davids talk - I reckon the problem you identify is valid and well worth checking - the 175 year thing is close to a self congratulatory hagiography of the monolopoly - although there is some hint of honesty in the text about earlier eras on the paper - SatuSuro 07:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

2004 AFL Draft
G'day and I'm loving your edits, although I only have one question with this edit [1]. At the time were the clubs known by the name that you changed them to. For example, was it the Sandringham Zebras or the Sandringham Dragons? Lympathy Talk 17:58, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Pura Milk is red link in this page. I think it probably does not meet notability criteria and should be removed. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 06:58, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- Then be bold and remove it. I'm using AWB to change Pura Cup to Sheffield Shield, and red links are just black text in the AWB preview window. The-Pope (talk) 07:03, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

STJFL
Pope, the junior grand final was notable in that the circumstances were almost exactly the same as Sirengate in that the siren's volume was terrible, and also distinct in that the league cancelled the result and declared it a no game. I am presently trying to get an online reference to go with the video from the Hobart Mercury. It received major coverage in Tasmania's main daily newspaper - which fulfils WP:N. If I can't get it online, I'll get the page number and date from the paper itself. AFL-Cool (talk) 13:37, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think it should be notable too but only because I won a STJFL Grand Final for Sorell in 1992 (I think). It's my only premiership of my career and it was important to me :) Lympathy Talk 12:35, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Antipodes
Hi, I do recall that and I reviewed it a couple of months after I edited the article. You're right, I forgot that going east-west you need to do more than just invert the latitude number, thus I left it in the article when it was re-added. My apologies for removing it initially. I try not to delete something unless I'm sure it's wrong or doesn't belong, but I guess sometimes we can be a bit too sure of ourselves. Orichalcon (talk) 09:28, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
RE:AFL grounds
Thanks very much for the praise. This is really my second major edit of Wikipedia, ever, and I'm quite excited about it. Thanks for letting me know about the references, I will be collecting those shortly, but I was really concentrating on getting all the data into a tabled format. I think with those international matches, I'll just reword the heading. I'm also working on some blurbs for each section, I'll let you know once thats done so I can get some more feedback. I'll also be adding a map soon! If I do struggle for references, I'll know who to ask! We'll get it up to featured list standard, I know! Thanks again!

Hey, just done a whole lot more, another map, lots of blurbs, finished all tables...what do you reckon? Apart from the references, do you think that it could be of FL standard? Sorry to keep bothering you like this.

AFL 2008 Draft
Hey mate, good work on the draft.
Just a small point, the players in "Blue" were incorrect links, and the ones in RED can't be made blue until they are notable. None of them are yet, especially since they havent played a game. See WP:N and WP:BIO. Good job but, I wouldnt have had your patience! Johnson8776 (talk) 00:39, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
I am a BRAND NEW editor... I have JUST started after many years of just looking around... and quite frankly I'm sick of "experts" like you who are patronising and dont want to listen to reason. Just because I have taken some time to read the policies and take an interest in important things rather than putting "."s in etc does not mean experienced editors can be rude. I'd be willing to admit you are correct, having seen your talk on the 2008 AFL Draft talk page, so maybe just do that and dont get so bloody aggressive next time with a new person. Johnson8776 (talk) 01:04, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- p.s. I didnt even know about the WP:RED... a kind explanation could have done. Johnson8776 (talk) 01:05, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
- "However when considering adding red links to lists, disambiguation pages or templates, editors are encouraged to write the article first, and use the wikiproject or user spaces to keep track of unwritten articles." Hmmm, amazing what someone can find if they read a policy... Johnson8776 (talk) 01:07, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Stephen Hill (Australian footballer)
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Stephen Hill (Australian footballer), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Does not meet WP:ATHLETE as he has not played a first team match with a fully professional club
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Mattinbgn\talk 03:36, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks
As before, thank you for your unfriendly and hostile message you posted to me. Does it get your back up when other editors dont agree with you? I do apologise for getting the WP:PROD wrong, but perhaps you ought to have a look at WP:ATHLETE... funny how it says athletes must have played... i.e. merely being drafted will not suffice. But I wouldnt expect you to listen to reason, someone so experienced and set in his ways will probably just retort with a similar post to before, disguised in being helpful when really quite nasty and unhelpful. p.s. have you ever kicked a football? Johnson8776 (talk) 11:25, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
AfD nomination of Stephen Hill (Australian footballer)
I have nominated Stephen Hill (Australian footballer), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Stephen Hill (Australian footballer). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. --VS talk 11:28, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
PRODding
Thanks for your note. I do know the deletion policy and would not have prodded the article had I taken the time to check the edit history. Thank you for the reminder.
I am not sure why you are surprised about having these non-notable articles listed for deletion in some shape, the subjects are clearly of marginal notability and if it wasn't me it was going to be someone. WP:ATHLETE is already absurdly lenient (especially compared to WP:PROF for example) and unlike WP:FOOTBALL and WP:CRICKET, the AFL wikiproject shows little inclination to try and enforce some level of notability, encouraging the creation of articles on players who for the most part have never played in front of more than two men and a dog before. Merely training with AFL footballers does not make someone notable, actually playing does. There is zero guarantee than any draft pick (including Watts and Natanui) will ever play top-level footy and the creation of the articles is pure crystall-ballery. -- Mattinbgn\talk 11:28, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- And I partially agree with you for rookie listed players, and maybe late draft picks (I'm not in any hurry to write up Ben Bucovas's article), but having a prod on NickNat's article (I know you didn't prod him, but he was proded today) would be laughed off the screen by ANYONE who simply does a google news search. Even if he does his knee tomorrow, goes back to Fiji or decides to be a monk, he's a notable person NOW. As for the rest... lets take them one by one, allow for references to be found - ie today there was an article on Jetta and Bennell in the papers - not a list, but a article on them. Hill had a bunch of stories last week. Getting drafted, especially at the top end of the draft does make people notable in the sport of Aussie Rules, partially because of the interest in the sport in Aust and partially because of the "closed-shop" team list situation. Feel free to take any of these to AFD and we'll see what the rest of the wikiworld thinks. I'll continue to deprod them and either reference them or tag them as unreferenced. And I'll continue to use the basic criteria of WP:NOTABLE over WP:ATHLETE everyday. And I can't believe you used WP:Cricket as an example - any List A/20:20/First-Class cricketer qualifies there. I'd say that was just as low, if not a lower bar. The-Pope (talk) 11:51, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- I replied re notability on my talk page. --Matilda talk 19:49, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Userification
Hello there. As requested, I've userified the two articles:
Note that Bennell in particular will need further citations before being added back into the mainspace, even if he does get a top flight game. If there's any other particularly promising looking ones that have been deleted in this fashion, let me know and I'll be happy to userify. Lankiveil (speak to me) 10:46, 8 December 2008 (UTC).
