It's kindof late to welcome you, but I thought maybe I should leave you this useful table to learn a lot of things :) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 21:22, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

I am grateful for the nice welcome even if it is a bit late (i been around for a bit but took a large amount of time off) so am just now getting back in the swing of things. I am sure that I will find your post useful and really grateful you took the time to say hello. You can never have too much kindness. Also here is my attempt at using the talkback template again (which I will leave on your talk page) so we shall see how that turns out. Cheers!! ȚttØØditre§ 22:07, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
It worked :)
You can also just say TheOriginalSoni (link it), and I'll magically appear.
Also, two things which I think you should change -
  • The colour of this page must be changed so its readable but not flashy
  • Your sign should be much more readable, and must be usually your name without using SMS language
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:11, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Oh ok no problem will make those changes. I guess they must have changed things a bit while I was gone because this is the first time someone has said anything about those two things. Back to the drawing board and looking for the how to's to do those two things as well. Thanks for the info. ȚttØØditre§ 22:16, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
No problems :) The first is mainly a readablity concern, but the second one is a more important concern. Maybe just remove the hearts to see how it looks? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:56, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
I just made it real plain. Text only. I was new when i made that and excited. Everyone had signatures that looked neat (or so it seemed). I don't mind being plain jane now. So here is the test. TattoodWaitress 22:59, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
You dont have to do that! Colours are fine too. Also, a link to your userpage is a nice thing to have. TattØØdẄaitre§ would look fine. Just the two hearts being removed makes it much more readable :) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 23:27, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
Done, I am going to use the code you just made. Thanks so much it looks good. I did have a link to the user page before but forgot how to do it so now by looking at this I remember. Thanks for making that one it does look good. Now I will go put it in the sig box on the preferences page. I tried changing it around and then got an error so I gave up. Hopefully I can just copy the text you just put in here and that will work for me. Fingers crossed. TattØØdẄaitre§ 23:39, 9 June 2013 (UTC)
It works! Congratulations. Feel free to alter it any way you think looks best. Its your signature after all :) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 23:43, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 11

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Narcotics Anonymous, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Diversity and Caucasian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Article deleted

Okay the article is deleted now, the whole page was advertising and promo, its the least of your worries now. Wikipedia is an open place and anyone can edit, if you fear mistakes, keep trying and working towards it. Prabash.Akmeemana 03:14, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. So you see that answered my question. I was correct in my assumption that it was promotional and the next time I shall act on it myself. Or at least vote it for speedy deletion or however it is that you do that. But you see I still have a question about what the process is or what I "should" have done which is the whole purpose for asking a question in the first place. My questions are still half unanswered. Do I have the authority to delete an article? TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 03:18, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
To delete articles you need to be a sysop on Wikipedia, heck if we were all allowed too delete articles on Wikipedia, it would be a disaster! Cheers Prabash.Akmeemana 03:21, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
Exactly what I thought so I still need the process but have gone to the admin that deleted the article to find out. Thanks so much for all your help and thoughts. Much appreciated!! TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 03:24, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
Usually all admins are willing to delete a page that requires deletion, if you see a page that does not meet Wikipedia guidelines, ring in an admin about the issue, you may also give the page a deletion-tag, which automatically notifies admins. Prabash.Akmeemana 03:27, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
THAT answers my question. Thanks so much TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 03:32, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, TW...I haven't talked to you in quite a while. I may be able to be more helpful if you link me to the article your concerns arise from. In general, items listed in lists should all be notable. There are several exceptions however. A list of high school principals is fine, even though they are seldom notable. You can list author's works, both notable and non notable. In my experience, redlinks are sometimes used for consistency, but much more often in the hope that they will help make a non-notable subject appear notable. Gtwfan52 (talk) 05:36, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Getting Pages Deleted

I see you are requesting pages to be deleted the hard way (Which is fine but time consuming), but there are easier ways to do this, here's how: The first thing you want to do is to get aware of WP:CSD which is simply notifies the admins of a page that violates wikipedia guidelines and should be removed; Once you have read through that, get WP:Twinkle it is an amazing tool that makes work for you a lot easier, you can put talkback notices, revert vandalism and tag the pages for CSD, you will love it because it saves so much time and effort, also I recommend you to get adopted on Wikipedia, I know some really nice editors that wont mind adopting you just ping me in if you want to get adopted! Best Wishes Prabash.Akmeemana 16:35, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

To clarify Prabash's message a bit: there are a number of criteria under which articles can be "speedily deleted"—that is, deleted without discussion or delay. That particular page met criterion F8, "Images available as identical copies on the Wikimedia Commons." If you think an article should be deleted under one of these criteria, you can manually add {{db-f8}} to the top of the page, which will automatically add it to a list of articles that will be reviewed and deleted by administrators. You do not need Twinkle to do this; Twinkle can be a bit confusing. GorillaWarfare (talk) 16:45, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Adoption?

Hi,

I noticed that you are currently looking for someone to adopt you. Of the several users who are currently available to take up adoptees, I suggest User:Jackson Peebles to be a good choice for adopting you, as I think he will nicely guide you through the various facets and tricks of Wikipedia editing. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:20, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Feel free to ask me questions at any time, Tatoodwaitress. I will do my best to help. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 22:32, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
TheOriginalSoni and Cullen328 thank you so much. I am finding that there are so many awesome, friendly, willing to help editors here and I am more than grateful. I appreciate the offer and will definitely keep all the info in mind. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 22:37, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
Just a Protip - If you link someone's user page while writing them, like I say Cullen, they get a notification [The little red button at the top which tells you about new talk page messages]. Thats a good way to make sure the person you're talking to sees it instantly :)
Also, i'll be happy to help you by answering any specific questions or solving any problems you have. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:40, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
I totally appreciate that suggestion like this TheOriginalSoni? Hopefully that notification worked. I am hoping that working through "lessons" or instructions via an adoption process will help me along with all my questions. Is this something that has an official curriculum? Or does each adopter do it different? I really want to learn things the right way. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 22:47, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
It worked! Congratulations! :)
Every adopter has their own style of doing it, but they are all basically the same 10 or so courses, which contain everything you need to know about Wikipedia in a nice little package. Some adopters even go more informally than that though :)
And to be honest, there is no right way. You could very well learn the same things by just reading a few of our policy pages. We have adoption for the simple reason that it allows you to know which parts are important, and makes sure you don't miss any important details. :)
Hope this helped.
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:54, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes it helped and I appreciate you looking out for me TheOriginalSoni I really would love to get adopted by someone who is willing, able, and knowledgeable; you recommended Jackson and Cullen. Cullen has been a help to me in the past so if he is willing I would be delighted. If not, Ill check out Jacksons availability. I just want to be sure that whomever adopts me realizes that my time here may be sporadic as i just started a new job and have two classes to start in the fall as well so time will be limited. However I am extremely motivated and eager to learn all there is to know about wiki. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 23:11, 29 June 2013 (UTC)
I'm available, as well - just post on my talk page or here by tagging me (as mentioned above) if you'd like to work with me! --Jackson Peebles (talk) 03:21, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

While I apologize for the delay, I'm excited to announce that I have now set up your adoption center. For my adoption program, I'll be using the Wikipedia Education Program. This presents a great new way to be accessible to others while allowing everyone to complete independent work and not over-utilizing Wikipedia server resources. To get started:

  1. Enroll
  2. Follow the directions at Education_Program:Western_Michigan_University/Wikipedia_(2013_Q2)#Lesson_1:_Five_Pillars_of_Wikipedia.
  3. Visit User:Jackson_Peebles/Adoption#Current_Adoptees when you're ready to take the test, and click the appropriate link and edit the applicable page.

Thanks, and good luck!

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!

If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 11:33, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Miss Bono Thank you so much that is wonderful. I made a few more edits (added info and ref's) and changed the word from "and" to "better known as" but am so happy to have your help. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 20:09, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Vandalism Help

Greetings, May I ask your help about finding vandalism edits to complete my assignment. I am not expecting you to find them for me but please can you explain how did you find unattended vandalism edits because before I reach any conclusion or find any vandalism, someone else post a warning on that article.Avinendra (talk) 16:15, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello Avinendra, yes i know that was hard for me too. Basically I went to the recent changes page and hit refresh over and over so that I would see the most recent changes quickly. If you go to your preferences - then to gadgets and tick the box that says "Navigation popups, article previews and editing functions popup when hovering over links" this will allow you to view the "popups" by scrolling over the words (diff|hist) located on the left of the recent changes page. You will be able to spot quickly without having to go to each page. ALSO click the ip contribs at the very top of the page so that you are only seeing recent changes by ip address contributors only since mostly they are the ones who are doing the vandalizing. Focus on the summaries too (this is not always 100%) but it helped me to spot "possible" vandalism easier, also check out the number with the + or - sign. Usually a higher number can mean vandals too. Hope this helps. If not let me know and I will try to be of further assistance.TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 16:26, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks very much friend, I am on it and I will let you know. :) Avinendra (talk) 17:50, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!

Thank you for the feedback at my editor review, which I just noticed. I try to view what others have to say about me regularly, but I'm really grateful to you for taking the time to compliment me even though it really isn't necessary. I think that you'll find that going out of your way to thank others and to be welcoming (even to experienced editors) really makes a big difference to them, as it did for me. Jackson Peebles (talk) 04:40, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
Jackson PeeblesYou are more than welcome. Anytime. I think it is good to give positive feedback when possible. Positive before negative always gets you farther with just about everything. Thanks for the tea. Good day and hope all is well.TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 06:24, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Bono: in conversation with Michka Assayas

Hi, many sorries for such a late reply to you. I have been not feeling terrifically too well. Miss Bono and I were in an earlier discussion talking about the differences in publications on her talk page: [1]. It's in the section on "Request for help on Paul McGuinness article". My copy of the book is the hardcover original edition published in 2005. I have a USA edition. What Miss Bono was working from was I believe, from the Amazon website and was definitely a later editon in paperback with an ebook. I still have an infobox I had prepared in my sandbox for her artice, but when I saw hers was different, I left it the way she had it. This is the edition I have: Barnes and Noble website. However mine only has 323 pages...You are correct that the author's name is Michka Assayas. All the best! Fylbecatulous talk 14:11, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, Miss Bono asked me to do a Google translate of the French article on Michka Assayas. I did so, and cleaned it up a bit, though it still needs work. You can find it at User:Cullen328/sandbox/Assayas. Take care. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:58, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Cullen328Oh thank you so much. I didn't know you could speak french. That's was very kind of you to do that for me. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 05:31, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't really speak French although I studied it for one year in 8th grade. I use Google Translate, plus logic, good sense and general online search skills to produce a rough preliminary translation. I would never claim that such a translation is accurate, but rather a first draft.Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:05, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Cullen328 Well I appreciate you taking the time to do that. I too took french in the 8th grade, and I too use google translate. What a coincidence. I will keep in mind that it may not be accurate. Have a good night. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 06:21, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Fylbecatulous Sorry for the late late reply to your message. I plum forgot. I am grateful you took the time to give me some info re: the book on bono. Thank you. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 06:27, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

You are welcome. This is a laugh that I find y'all discussing French. I took one year of French in the tenth grade and really all I remember is some short questions and answers type discussions. And one long poem that I can still recite in French without a clue what it means. Crazily I have a user page on the French wikipedia and almost 100 edits there. I fear the day I get my hand slapped in French by some admin for an error I cannot parse the meaning of. ツ I can still recognise though, what the context is about in articles there, even if I can't read every word. Mainly I add categories. lol. Happy you have gotten this sorted out with the article in question. (I did go read it on the French page...) See you around! Fylbecatulous talk 11:31, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
I left a note with some information on the talk page of your sandbox article where you first requested help. (You had linked it to my talk page)... I now have three of yours, as well as Cullen 328's translation watchlisted. Once I can discern which draft you are developing for going live in article space, I will stop by and try to add some things that I mentioned in your sandbox article. Fylbecatulous talk 12:00, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
FylbecatulousTo make it easier for you this is the one that I will be developing. Thank you so much for your offer to help me with this. Thank you for the information. I am trying to wrap up some edits on another draft I have going and then will go back to that one but feel free to add as much or as little as you like. I will go and check the note you left on the talk page too. I have been getting a little confused with my notifications so I may have over looked it. My mouse is acting up and not going exactly to where I click it to go. Grrrr. Thanks again. Oh and while I am thinking of it would you mind checking out the other draft I have here here (if I haven't asked you already that is. Trying to get a bunch of feedback. Its the first article I have created from scratch. I still need to get more info to add to an info box and I am not real sure how to create the info box either. Any suggestions, and/or feedback would be greatly appreciated. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 22:25, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
OK, I have both links to these articles tagged up on my toolbar to have handy to tinker with. I actually love adding infoboxes. I will track down the one for a military biography. (Most of mine have been for infoboxless orphaned bands and musical artists). I'm normally on for a few hours at the crack of dawn and back in the early evenings. I'm east coast USA, so it's UTC minus 4 hours. See you! Fylbecatulous talk 22:51, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Fylbecatulous Ah cool. Hey I was born and raised in Rhode Island. Lived there all my life till 9 years ago. What a coincidence. What state you live in? TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 23:53, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Ah, sheesh. Just now saw this. My early years were in Maine about 40 miles from Quebec (I listened to a lot of French language radio). It was much too cold for my mom who was from Savannah, Georgia. We eventually moved to Upstate South Carolina (which at least had the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains}. I came to North Carolina for one year to work and have been stuck here ever since. !! Joe Patrick

Hello Tattoodwaitress,

Here are some preliminary comments: Please be aware of the neutral point of view and write articles about patriotic American topics as if you were a citizen of another country, or no country. I did a major expansion of Orio Palmer, a hero of 9/11, when some editors wanted to delete it, and got very emotional about the subject. I tried to keep my emotions out of the article.

It would be good to mention the years of his military service.

There is no need to mention the "Islamic terrorist group" as linking to the 9/11 attack article is sufficient. You use the word "honor" twice in the lead. When you say "honor all" is it all, or is it just Americans? Does his tapestry list the British, Canadians, Indian and French service members who died in these wars? How about civilian casualties, including private contractors and intelligence agents?

I am not sure that describing him downloading thousands of songs adds much to the article.

You mention a degenerative disease. What is it?

You shouldn't predict in Wikipedia's voice that he will complete the walk, or do anything in the future. Instead, say he plans to. Something could happen.

How much does the quilt weigh? How about his backpack with the turnout coat and baseball bat? What else does he carry? Does he have a support crew? A website? Which states and major cities does he plan to walk through?

Wikilink the military operations you mention.

What is Engine 4 Ladder 4 Battalion 9? Explain for the reader.

I have my doubts that "fallen warriors" is NPOV language in Wikipedia's voice. It is OK to use it in a direct quote.

I hope these comments are helpful to you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:46, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Cullen328 Thanks so much, that is a very good list and I much appreciate your taking the time to do that for me. Neutral point of you as if from no country. Never thought of that. Good one. That word "honor" was used many times in the news articles guess i got it stuck in my head for sure. Again thank you it has made me think. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 07:02, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Non free image rationale: further answers at Teahouse

Hello, I have added a few more important details about your recent upload of non free content. Please take a look as the image is still in danger of deletion.--Amadscientist (talk) 17:23, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Ok thank you Amadscientist i have to work today so its gonna take me a bit hopefully wont be deleted by then. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 17:38, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
I will take a look at the image, article etc., and if I can I will attempt to make what corrections I am able. When you get back you can make any changes you feel are appropriate if a make any mistakes.--Amadscientist (talk) 17:41, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you again Amadscientist, because I just went there and honestly have no clue what i am doing. I did realize that in the date section i put the title of article by mistake. I was trying to figure out how to edit it and it is confusing to me... i shall take a look when i get back to see the changes you have made which will be a big big help. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 17:43, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
Didn't have time to get to that but it isn't something that can be speedy deleted over the issues. it would need a discussion so watch for a template to be placed for a deletion discussion if I don't get to it until tomorrow.--Amadscientist (talk) 04:26, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

I haven't forgotten this...just a little sick today and limited to time.--Amadscientist (talk) 01:42, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Amadscientist thanks I really dont understand why after i filled out the form that it still might get deleted and i dont know what else to change. I know there are instructions but they are not real clear either that or I am just not too smart. In any event if you could help that will be great. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 03:10, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Leave me a link to the image for easy access. It is only in danger of possible deletion due to the way the rationale was completed the last time I saw it. it is an invalid rationale. But that requires a discussion to delete and not something that can be speedy deleted without discussion.--Amadscientist (talk) 03:28, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Amadscientist Here is the link..[2]...File:Memorial panel Joe "Tiger" Patrick.jpg i was making changes but quite sure i did it all wrong. How do I add all ten points. Didnt really give the option to add all those points upon upload did it?? No one has marked it for deletion yet right? TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 03:33, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
You have everything covered correctly on that image now. It should have no issues.--Amadscientist (talk) 18:12, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello Tattoowaitress,

I am by no means an expert in copyright, and remember making a fool of myself about a photo of a sculpture in Seattle a few years back. So take my comments with a grain of salt: One problem I see is the "no free equivalent" standard. You are stating that no free equivalent is available or could reasonably be expected to be available. I am paraphrasing so may not have the wording exactly correct. But what is to prevent any Wikipedian with a camera from going to one of his events and photographing the tapestry, taking a picture and uploading it under an appropriate Creative Commons license? It didn't burn up in a fire, did it? He hasn't withdrawn it from public view, has he?

Another concern is whether this tapestry is itself a "work of art" that would have its own copyright, making photos of it "derivative works" that can't be freely licensed, or whether it is a craft item that can be photographed freely by anyone. As an example, you can't go into an art gallery and take a photo of a painting by a famous contemporary artist, and then sell posters of your photo, as you could had you taken a photo of Mount Everest or a butterfly. You have undisputed rights to photos you take of nature, but not to photos you take of the artistic works of others. And even more so, fair use of the photos taken by others of the artistic work created by others is restricted. I hope I am wrong, but I have concerns. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 03:57, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

Cullen I am definitely no expert. It was my understanding if there were no free equivalent to me that I could use one that was copyrighted. None of the instructions here on the wikipedia help files explain it in this manner that you just did. And so for Wikipedia dummies like myself it is difficult to grasp the concept. I apologize for making a mistake and really have been asking for help in correcting the matter. If it is impossible to correct the matter then someone could just say "your photo and reason for using it just does not suffice and there is no way to make it suffice" (someone did this for the photo of joe that I had up there and I then requested for help deleting it....) and it certainly will not hurt my feelings if it is deleted. Of course I would like to have a photo there but it is not something I can't do without. I am all for following the rules and in fact thought that I was. I had no idea that I could not take a photo of something and claim that I owned the copyright to that photo if in fact the work of art in the photo belonged to someone else. Thank you for that explanation it helps. I am not in any way shape or form trying to break the rules here or violate any copyright laws. I was just going by my perception of what other editors were kindly telling me and I realize ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law. Oh gee... I hope I am not sounding rude or ignorant and apologize if I am. I am actually laughing at the fact that I have been unable to grasp the concept. I guess if an admin could just delete the file (unless there is some way to rectify it by someone who knows what they are doing) that will be the end of the discussion. I appreciate all of the help with this. At some point when the item makes it to its final destination the federal government may in fact publish a picture and then I won't have to worry about it. I truly from the heart appreciate your response. Thank you TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 04:11, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
I know that you are acting in good faith and I am not even sure that my own concerns are valid. I just feel obligated to express my concerns. I was absolutely sure that my photo of a sculpture of Jimi Hendrix on a Seattle public street was legitimate, and I learned that it wasn't as it infringed on the sculptor's rights. I know you are trying to do the right thing, and I also know these legal points are tricky. You can't photograph contrmporary art and upload it but you can photograph furniture. What about "art furniture"? Mind boggling. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:09, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Cullen Oh I agree that it is definitely mind boggling. I guess all I can do is to continue to ask questions and make changes until I get it right. I just feel like sometimes when I ask a question or someone gives feedback such as "the article has a few phrases where POV is a problem" and they refer me to the NPOV guidelines page (without pointing out an exact phrase where the issue lies) that I go and stumble around in the dark changing things. I think to myself "maybe this is what they are talking about" and I never really know if the changes I made are the ones they were talking about. Am I making sense? For all I know I took out stuff that I honestly thought sounded good, factual, simple and to the point without a bias opinion and I didn't have to. I have read that NPOV page dozens of times and made changes to the article and still it appears that there is some POV issues. I am running into the same problem with the image. I do have some irons in the fire and am waiting for some permissions to use other images, however, this hasn't been an easy process. What I was trying to do is figure out EXACTLY how the the upload form needs to be filled out so that when I do get a photographer to load up an image (because I am understanding this to be the best, easiest way) it won't get deleted right away because I don't think they are going to want to spend hours upon hours trying to get it right. UGH, its just frustrating but it is also a learning experience and I must be patient. Oh I am wondering too, if it is a work of art and these copyright issues are a problem how is it that newspaper photographers and such can take the images and put them on the web? Did they have to get a written permission from Joe to post them or what? Thanks again Cullen. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 15:05, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Here are a few rules to help you determine what can be uploaded as an original work of your own and what cannot. A work of art can be considered any work of the visual arts, such as a mural or, yes, a tapestry, quilt or other visual art. Crafts are considered art but only if they do not have a "utilitary" function. A plate has a "utilitary" function. A bedspread has a "utilitary" function, but a quilt is considered art because many time a quilt is never used but simply displayed as art and is actually considered such in the art community, experts etc..--Amadscientist (talk) 04:07, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

More on images

What makes us different from a newspaper is that we are a free project and all of our text and the vast majority of our images are freely licensed for reuse by others with no restrictions other than attribution. Newspapers are businesses that in theory retain tight control of their copyrights although the internet has eroded that in practice. Because our mission and legal structure and financing are dependent on the free nature of our content, our ability to use non-free content is restrained and narrow. Album covers and film posters are examples, as are portraits of dead people when no free version is available. In these cases, no free version is possible.

A photographer uploading to Commons under an acceptable free license will have no problems unless the subject matter itself has a copyright. It is easy, and I do it frequently from my mobile phone. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 16:30, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

So be sure that any photographer you work with understands that a Creative Commons license means that their photo can be used freely by anyone anywhere for any purpose, including making money off of it and not sharing any of that money with the photographer. They can require attribution such as "photo by Mary Jones" but have no other control over that image. Some of my photos have been republished in totally unexpected places, but I don't object as long as they credit me. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:38, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
Oh no thank you Cullen I understood that part. What I didn't understand (and which led to my confusion) is how "they" can take a picture of an "art object" and post it on web or in newspaper and retain the copyright to said image but haven't violated the "art object" creators rights? Make sense? TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 18:55, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
My guess is that professional newspaper photographers would make it their practice to get permission from the artist. But a photo of a work subject to copyright is a "derivative work" so both the photographer and the artist have a copyright interest. As a freelance writer, I deal with similar situations. I have often sold "first publication" rights to magazines. They can publish it once, the first time. I can later use it any way I want, on my own website or in an anthology, for example. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:35, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
I can answer some of this. In many cases Tatoodwaitress, the photographer is breaking copyright law. It is the responsibility of the artist to take issue with the photographer when they abuse US Freedom of Panorama law: "In the United States, "freedom of panorama" exists only for buildings (17 USC 120). For photos of works of the visual arts (sculptures and statues, but also murals) there are no similar exemptions in the U.S. copyright law." So, many times you are seeing images that, either the artist is not aware of, or have been compensated for the copyright.--Amadscientist (talk) 03:57, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Coffee art

Just saw the work you did of your grandchild on your user page. It's nice to see more artists on Wikipedia. I'm curious, how many different colors can you create? I'll bet there's a way to get red. :) Viriditas (talk) 02:58, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank you so much. Viriditas The possibilities are actually endless. I went and bought a jar of espresso powder and by diluting it with as little as a drop of water to teaspoons of water you can get so very many shades. You can also use fresh brewed coffee that you allow to sit in a cup until the water evaporates some (or just brew it real strong). Sometimes I just use leftovers as I hate throwing stuff out that I can recycle. As far as red goes I make red paint by purchasing fresh beets at the store. Cutting them up and boiling in water (the least amount of water the better) and you can use the microwave, the result is a really really bright red. You can see the results here: [3] I posted a portion of the painting for you to see. The red looks more like fuchsia in this shot but you get the point. There are so many different fruits, veggies, flowers, etc that you can use to make paint. Even onion peels can be used to make an orange/tan type color. Glad you liked my painting and Thanks again.

-- SuggestBot (talk) 00:33, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Explaining

I patrolled your page. I went through the enormously-backlogged list of newly-created pages and confirmed that your page was okay: not spam, not an attack page, not a copyright violation, not any of the other reasons for which I would delete someone's page without asking. Then I clicked "patrolled" to remove it from the list of "pages that have not yet been patrolled", and moved on to the next entry. That's all. DS (talk) 11:33, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

DS Oh thank you so much for replying to my question. I was just curious. I appreciate the explanation. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 16:40, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello! What about Michka Assayas article. Is it finished yet? Miss Bono [zootalk] 12:12, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

Miss Bono Thank you so much for checking in with me about that. I have been so busy with my new job and getting prepared for school to start that I haven't had much time for editing. I will get back to it eventually. Feel free to make any changes you want. I do believe it is ready but need to spend a little more time checking it out. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 16:39, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
What do you think there's left? Maybe we can move into the main space and check it out there, as we don't have more information so far. What do you think? Miss Bono [zootalk] 16:48, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Absolutely Miss Bono we can move it to the mainspace. Is that something you can do? do you know how? I think someone suggested that I do the moving differently than the way I moved the "tiger" article. SO if you know how to do that please feel free to do it now. Or I can search around for the instruction on how to do so. Thank you dear!! TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 16:53, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I'll take care of that. don't worry. And... congrats on your new job :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 16:54, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Why thank you Miss Bono. I think you just hit the submit page right? Thats all i did last time. That is the right way correct? Thank you for taking care of it. TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 16:56, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
I just copy the entire code of the page and paste it into the new one in the MS. Can you sign my guestbook? There's a link in my header. Thanks in advance. Miss Bono [zootalk] 16:57, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Miss Bono oh ok... what happens to the history and talk page of the article? does that matter? I still have lots to learn and thank you for your help. Yes i shall sign your guestbook. Have a great day!! TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 16:59, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Well, I just copied the talk page of the draft into the talk page of the new article and I specified that it was your original idea. As for the History, I am not sure, I will have to ask to some expert at the Teahouse. Anyways, when I created the article, I specified that it was a draft that you started and it was yoour idea. if you don't mind. If you are not comfortable with this, you just have to nominate the page for deletion and then move the draft by yourself. have a good day! :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:05, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Have you check them both yet? Tell me what you think? And also tell me what you think it is missed? maybe I can look for some help here and there. Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:16, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Honestly, I only got the idea from your article (red links) So its all good. Thank you for the mention though. I am more than comfortable with it being done this way. My only goal is to help improve wikipedia and that takes a group effort. Happy that you have helped me. Good job!! Thanks again. =) TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 17:15, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
But the idea was yours, so thank you so much for your efforts and for noticing that. (I am not able to see red links because of an interface problem, so... everything for me is blue)... Can you suggest some of the stuffs that the article still needs from your POV? Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:18, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Miss Bono I sure will. I will go and do that on the article talk page ok?TattØØdẄaitre§ lĖTŝ tÅLĶ 17:22, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

FYI only

I have proposed deletion of an article you previously nominated for speedy deletion, Flying Fairy Until Liffey. Best wishes Flat Out let's discuss it 04:14, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

There is something fishy about this article, and it may be a hoax. Priyanka Chopra is one of India's most famous movie stars, and if she had appeared in a U.S. film set for a 2014 release, it would be big news in Indian newspapers. That said, WP:A7 does not apply to films in general, or to any page that claims that a major celebrity is involved. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 05:44, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
Flat Out and Cullen328 thank you both. I have an ongoing post (question) in the teahouse about this. I am having difficulties with the speedy delete compared to the Afd and the many choices there are to tag a request for any deletion for an article. I knew that it deserved a delete I just wasn't quite sure how to go about it and I still am not quite sure of the Nomination via afd process. The thing is that I am a pretty hands on type learner and most often I like to see examples of the process not just the list of "how too's" but once an article is deleted the page is gone forever and there is no way to view the source of the page to help me understand. My problem with this one was in choosing which "reason" for the delete. The "web" choice was not the right one and I knew immediately after choosing it (by going to the creator of the page and viewing the "notification" that was left on the user's talk page). I am going to go and review the tags that are on this particular page now and am grateful for the help from both of you. Tattoodwaitress (talk) 15:07, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Magainin, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Synthesized (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Continuing from the Teahouse

Wow, drama ensues sometimes when one least expects it. Okay so you're correct as to what I was saying where this all left off; this seems to me a perfect prod candidate. Its deletion is not controversial because it appears non-notable, fits well under WP:CRYSTAL as you noted, and in this case, it does not qualify under any speedy deletion rationale. I would use something like {{subst:proposed deletion|Apparently [[WP:N|non-notable]] film; no results using a Google News search; and [[WP:CRYSTAL|Wikipedia is not a crystal ball]].}} The other reason to prod it, rather than go straight to AfD, is because AfD is a much more resources-intense process, and so where prod is available, it's good to attempt it for pretty obviously uncontroversial candidates before involving multiple people in an AfD that appears to be a foregone conclusion. Remember, though, that once a prod is removed or protested (even by the creator), it can't be prodded again, so then AfD is the next route.

But getting back to speedy deletion, sometimes it's easy to think "this is so bad, something must fit" but that trail is not true. The speedy criterion are only for things that come up with great regularity, for which an objective criterion can be found, an for which almost all articles that could be deleted using the rule, should be deleted. Lots of really poor things couldn't be captured by a criterion that met all of these standards so we get topics all the time that are obvious but meet no existing criterion. No criterion fits this movie. The speedy criteria are generally strictly construed; candidates either meet a criterion or they don't. No matter how much it appears there is no way an article would ever survive AfD—that its deletion is obvious—if no criterion fits, you have to go to another method. Knowing the speedy deletion criteria well is the key to knowing what fit's within them and without them.

The best way to learn when they apply and when not is to use them. It's easiest to memorize at first the most common ones and then do some new pages patrol at Special:NewPages. Tag obvious ones that fit well after reviewing the criteria, and ignore others. The process of deciding whether articles fit or not will in no time give you a much better grasp of what's inside and outside their ambit. As to the specific article let's test under the common criteria. There' really aren't that many when you remove the ones that are rarer and you only look at the ones that apply to articles. Remember that the General criterion (all taking "G" as the letter prefix) apply to all nampespaces, whereas, the Article criteria apply only to mainspace articles.

  • It's not nonsense (G1), or obvious vandalism/clearly a hoax (G3);
  • It's not an attack page (G10);
  • It's not a blatantly promotional (G11);
  • It's not a copyvio (G12).
That's it for the "G"s. Some notes, G1 patent nonsense is for incoherent entries not just for the hard to understand or very poorly written; G3 vandalism is for bad faith edits intended to damage, not just things that violate any old policy; G11 spam/promotion is a judgment call but needs the text to sound like an advertisement/résumé, and also note that it doesn't just apply to commercial products or people promoting themselves--it can be about a religious leader, a charity and so on.
  • It doesn't lack context (we can tell what it's about) and it's not empty of content (CSD A1 and CSD A3);
  • It doesn't fit under (A7). This is a big one; one to know well. A7 is for articles failing to indicate importance or significance and is the most commonly used criterion by far. The trick is knowing the list of things it applies to: real people, individual animal(s), organizations (but not schools), web content or organized events. That's it. If it's not on that list, it doesn't apply. Movies do not fit;
  • (A9) (musical recordings with no Wikipedia article on the band) and (A10) (duplicate topics) are very specific and easily seen not to apply here.

That's really it. The above are the common criterion (probably spam-G11, copyvios-G12 and indication of significance or importance-A7, are the most common from that larger list), and if you only know them, you know what will and won't apply to more than 99% of speedy candidates. See also User:Yunshui/Deletion for beginners. All the best--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:01, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

FuhghettaboutitOh how wonderful. I thank you kindly for your expansive answer to my questions. You took a lot of time writing the above and I am grateful for your obvious effort. Please help fix my Afd log mistake

When nominating an article to Afd for the first time. The article is Peter Lawler (canoer) you can see it at the afd logs twice. i followed the how to instructions and somehow ended up creating two of the logs. i think i repeated the third step twice. can you please help me fix it i tried to delete but that made it worse so i undid my delete. Thank you. Tattoodwaitress (talk) 18:22, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

The duplicate log entry was fixed by JohnCD. Huon (talk) 18:58, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict)  Fixed. All that was necessary was to remove the relevant line from this page, which when you edit it is just a list of the AfDs, one to a line. JohnCD (talk) 19:02, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
JohnCDThank you so much for the fix and the explanation. I will keep that info in my hat for use at a later date! Tattoodwaitress (talk) 19:11, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

A pie for you!

Regarding this: Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#If i want to nominate a future film for deletion. In that situation, I would have...done the wrong thing. I would have just put WP:A7 on that article, even though, as you pointed out, A7 does not apply to future films. So congratulations, you read WP:CSD more carefully than me. Thank you so much! :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:14, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Miss Bono First of all the summary stating "original text" needs to be worked on. I assume at this time that if it doesn't say original text that it has been reworked already? I also believe that all the text size needs to match as I mentioned previously. The very small text is hard to read and work with while editing and doesn't adhere to the MOS? Other than that it looks good so far but I will need to review further. Thank you for asking me to help you. I am still working on my adoption, finally finished the final, but ready to move to the next step. Trying to complete that before i start school next week. I will work through some more of the u2 summary, and await clarification of the question above. You are such a hard worker and I appreciate that a lot. Thanks.Tattoodwaitress (talk) 17:20, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you so much. I was keeping the text that small to differentiate the original text from the reworded one. And as for your question; you were the one that reworded the text :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:24, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Ah Miss Bono, but I asked you if I could change the font size and you told me to leave it the same so i did, LOL, how confusing. Ok I get it now. Change the font size after it has been reworded? Tattoodwaitress (talk) 17:25, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
yep. Sorry for the misunderstanding. It was my shitty English's fault. LOL Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:27, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Lol, no worries. Tattoodwaitress (talk) 17:29, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
I don't want to be useless, so I will appreciate if you give some work to me. :) Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:30, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
For the Summary, I was thinking about to create a scheme that applies to all chapters with period (recording sessions, albums, events, tours, ...), interviews and photos shoots locations and contents (and archives for photos; U2's archive/personal/family archives), popular quotes (used or cited by mass-madia) and/or well known or prize winner photos... can you help with that. I think that if we do that, our work could me more organized. What do you think? I have the book so if you need something just ask :P Miss Bono [zootalk] 17:34, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
