I userfied your article

[edit]

Just for quick reference, I moved the Sushant gupta article to your user page, since that's what it seemed to be. No skin off anybody's nose, but please keep only encyclopedic pages in the mainspace (pages starting with "User:" are in what we call "userspace," pages with "Talk:" are in talkspace, and pages without a prefix are mainspace, if that makes sense). Thanks! Luna Santin 11:09, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, while creating articles; remember that the article should be note-worthy, i.e. encyclopedic; and it should also conform with Wikipedia's policies of verifiability and neutral point of view. Warm regards, --Nearly Headless Nick 11:11, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I would be glad to be your friend here on Wikipedia. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me on my talk page, and I will do my best to help you. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 21:24, 17 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Article not accepted

[edit]

If you added content to a page and did not cite the source, the content will be removed because it would be considered "original research". Please make sure that you cite your sources so that any content that you add will be legitimate. Also, make sure that what you posted is not nonsense. That kind of content will also be removed.

To start a new page, go to this page and follow the instructions. Please make sure that if you start a new article, that you cite the sources that you use for the information, or the page will be deleted.

Finally, when you leave messages on talk pages, please sign them using either the four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking the signature button on the toolbar (between red X and the line). It will help me identify easier who wrote the message and I can reply easier. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 20:35, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Answers to your questions

[edit]

As for how Wikipedia, and the Wikimedia foundation makes money, they accept donations, and no advertising.

As far as people hired by Wikimedia, there are a few, but I am not exactly sure what they do or who they are. Most people who do things with the encyclopedia are volunteers who are registered users on the site; people like you and me. You are able to edit and create new articles on the site.

However, if you are found causing trouble, an administrator can take action. If you are ever given a warning, I would suggest that you quit doing what you were warned about, because if you were to continue, you will be temporarily banned. If you continue to abuse the site after being temporarily banned, then you can be banned permanently.

If you have any other questions about Wikipedia that you would like answered immediately, you can use a {{[[template:helpme|helpme}} on your user talk page, or you can go to the Help desk and ask the question there. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 12:58, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Hi!

[edit]

Sure, just ask, I'll gladly help.

  • I don't think there's any video tutorials available and I really don't see how they would help editing. Editing itself is really easy, and if you are able to make questions, you already know how to edit works. If you want to know how to make good edits and to follow rules, read the links that were given to you on the top of this page. It doesn't hurt reading them—they're not just for newbies, I read them once a while. If there's something specific problems you don't find an answer, just ask me or someone else.
  • It is really easy to replace an image, just upload a new one with exactly the same name as the original one. But remember, if you're adding images, it is very important that you do not violate copyright! I'm not kidding, it is very dangerous for Wikipedia to show copyrighted content because it is breaking the law. If you violate copyright repeatedly, you could get banned. Then what images are copyrighted? Basically all images that don't have copyright information cannot be used. Image that can be used:
  • Very old images (for example, over 100 years old).
  • Images whose creator grants any use (not just non-commercial use; on the other hand, GPL and Creative Commons licenses are OK).
  • Images created by a US federal agency (for example, NASA). Agencies in many other countries keep the copyright, so their works cannot be used.
  • Book or album covers, screen captures etc. are copyrighted, but they can be used as "Fair Use".
Copyright covers any creative work made by people, not just images: text, movies, audio, and so on. If you find a webpage that seems to be reliable and has information you think is useful, you can add it with your own words. Copypasting is stealing.
No, you can't replace a copyrighted image with another one even if you mention the source. Could you tell what image do you mean?--JyriL talk 18:56, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Inserting pictures

[edit]

If you would like to upload a picture, Special:Upload is the place to do so. If the image already exists, go to the image's page and click the link to update image to upload a newer version of the image. Please make sure that the image you are going to upload is cited correctly, because if it is not, it will be deleted from Wikipedia.

To insert a picture into an article, click the image button on the toolbar, and where it says example.jpg, type the EXACT file name into the tag, If you do not use the EXACT file name, you will see a red link where the image should be.

My date of birth is on November 7, 1988, and I like sports and computers. My favorite baseball team is the New York Yankees, basketball team is the Los Angeles Lakers, and American Football team is the Pittsburgh Steelers. I play clarinet in the school band, and I am the manager of the baseball and basketball teams at my school.

I hope this satisfies your requests. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 21:55, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not mind if you were to send me my astrological sign. I think that it would be really interesting to see what it says.

What kind of article do you want to put on the front page? If you want to make it a featured article, then you need to first make sure that it meets the requirements that are listed on the featured article page. Then, you need to nominate the article for featured article status. After that, you have to wait through the voting process.

ctbt

[edit]

Hi, Sushant!

I am messsaging you regarding your comments about the CTBT (Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty). If you wish to complain or appeal to the United States government and its policies, you should e-mail President Bush at [email protected]. Wikipedia has nothing to do with the American goverment and starting sush a topic could be considered vandalism by some editors. Wikipedia is actually not affiliated with any government whatsoever and out relationship the United States is the same as it it with India or Nigeria--esentially there is none. Wikipedia is a private international entity organization which is governed by the Wikimedia Foundation by the founders of this project and all the users, including you and I. I thought it was also important to mention that the United States has indeed signed the CTBT and if you wish to debate such topics I suject you do a google or yahoo search on, Test Ban Treaty Discussion, or debate, or nuclear issues since wikipedia is not a debate club. Thanks, Qrc2006 13:23, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I took the libery of removing your comments since they are misguided and irrelevant.

Its me again, I hope you're having a nice day Sushant!

I would like to also clarify that if my comments came off too strongly it was not ment as intimidation at all and that inactuality you have as much power and a voice over topics on Wikipedia as I any absolutly anyone else does. There are a few tiers of seniority, first of all there are unregistered users who may also edit, but not create new articles. Then there are registered users like you and I. Allthough with the distinction that I have been a registered user for more than 1 month and I have made more than 100 edits, which is something you will hopefully soon achieve and I wholeheartedly encourage it. The vast majority (Over 98%) of wikipedians are simple Editors like myself and you (yes you!). Then after a long time as an editor some people are invited to be administrators (admin[s]) where they have more authority and such.

To answer your question, perhaps I am not the best person here is a very helpful link, albeit 'IT IS FULL OF LINKS and mostly mentions what wikipedia is not but in essance and my own words

wikipedia is an encyclopedia, a collection of knowledge on all "noteable" topics people places et cetera, there are several sister projects such as a dictionary "wiktionary" and many others. if you are curious please ask me and ill help answer anyother questions.

Wikipedia in an encyclopedia that does not have any official nor professional writters. Its is a collaborative by everyone with internet access that is interested and knows anything about anything and wants to contribute. This can be clicking the edit button if you see cat spelled Kat or adding information on the recent elections in Tonga. It can be updating the population of Mumbai after a new census, but which such information with must be cited to a book, the censues or preferabble a link to a gov't website displayinmg that information.

for example if the population of Town City, Countryland changes from 3,467 to 5,679 after a new n=censues you may make such a sentance

The population of Town City is 5,679 www.countrylandcensus.com (put the adress in brackets "[ ]" ) as of the recent census.

this would appear as

The population of Town City is 5,679 [^(link)] as of the recent census.

are very helpful make any other questions at the village pump

since your indian i thought it would be important to mention that wikipedia has versions in 240 differant langauges includion many from the indian subcontinant area such as

Urdu, Punjabi, Nepali, Hindi, Tamil, Sanskrit, just to name a few.

heres a complete list http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias

thanks! 71.142.78.14 19:13, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

also look up the manual of style and help desk for any questions

and that discission you typed in, its actually just a debate for anything having to do with an article since this is a colaboration and person A thinks something is a certain wya and person B thinks it should be yet another way and sometimes there is a person C and D and so on wioth differant levels of aggreability, the article section in arguement should be left as it is whether or not accurate and on the discssion page peple argue about it untill concensus can be make

topics such as isreal osama bin laden bush kashmir tibet penis sex prince albert (pierceing) scatofelia fück brad pitt tony blair are HIGHYLU CONTROVERTIAL on any page that is highly controvertial or very popular any major change you make is likely to be removed if not first discussion on the discussion known as the "talk page" smaller articles are diffaernat and a simple edit summary will do

look up edit summary if you need info, you may use the very search box on wikipedia click go not search then search then use a google search and for village pump for instance just type village pump beforehand "wiki village pump" then wikipedia village pump and youll be sure to find what your looking for otherwise ask for help. i am also always here

wikipedia hold a strong stance of NPOV Non Point of View for instnace is Queen Noor rapes and kills 50 children this sentance is not acceptable

Shes a total murdering whore. Nor is Queen Noor killed 50 children and this is very bad.

only Queen Noor killed 50 children.

furthermore all claims must not only be true truth is not enough it must be verifiable if not probably engrained in everyones mind Saying the sky is blue does not require a ciation

The reason the sky is blue was determined by Dr. X in 1879 in Greece Is however if you cannot cite it but know it to be true you may add the tag fact between double braces {{ }}

looks like this >> "[citation needed]"

ok and wp (wikipedia) has a strong stance agains censorship picture of penises and shit and the word shit and breats and arms and legs and sexual acts and bathroom acts and all that kind of thing is allowed, but a picture of someone eating feces for sexual pleasure doesnt not belong on the marigold flower article as the picture of the flower doesnt belong on the donkey article

basically everything is ok, where appropritae as long as it is impartial, it is not plagiarism nor copywritten or original research

happy editing!

One last thing that I should mention that no one told me when I started to use wp. Whenever I was contacted by other editors I felt very apprehensive or attacked even. The way people word their messages can be very dry and lack emotion, which is why I try to go out of my way to be helpful and friendly. Also remember that everyone has the same amount of clout here and always be bold when editing. Besides if you mess up theres always the history button, when an archive of every single version of every article is kept on every article even if the differance is a missing period or simple spelling error. The history button can also be fun since you can look up the first version of any article which is usually one poorly written sentance and you can click the next button and see how everyone pulls it together rather communistically. Additions to the article

[edit]

Hi, Yes I received the astrological sign information and I think it is very interesting.

What article did you edit? If you give me the link to the article I will try to find out why the content you added was not accepted. Sometimes other people do not think what you might see as notable is actually notable. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 15:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Crab Nebula picture

[edit]

The picture you mentioned was obtained by Hubble and is from NASA, so it's ok. When you think an image should be added here, be careful that it is a NASA image, not an image that is featured in a NASA page (for example, Astronomical Picture of the Day, which is a NASA site, shows many copyrighted non-NASA images).

I became a self-sustaining lifeform on October 25, 1976. I don't understand why you wanted to know that.--JyriL talk 15:51, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Before I forgot, you might upload files directly to Wikimedia Commons where they are available to every Wikimedia project, not just the English Wikipedia. (For example, Image:Dingo Australia Zoo QLD.jpg shows here although it is not really in Wikipedia.--JyriL talk 15:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you must register first. Registering there is as easy as here in Wikipedia.--JyriL talk 16:16, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sun

[edit]

Hi, Sushant,

I had a look and noticed you were the source of the Gamow quote that I cut out of the article. The reason I cut it out is that it is both vague and wrong. A pinhead might be 2mm x 2mm x 2mm, for a total volume of 0.008 cm3 At a density of 150, that is 1.2 grams of material, or a little under 1 mole of the hydrogen/helium mix. Since the material is gaseous, its temperature and heat are related by Boltzmann's Constant and Avogadro's Number: heat = (1.2 grams) * (0.5 moles/gram) * (6.022x1023 particles/mole) * (1.38x10-23 J/K/particle) * (15x106 K). That works out to about 75,000,000 Joules, or 75 megajoules, of heat that are contained in each pinhead of material from the core of the Sun. That is a lot of heat (equivalent to the energy in about 150 gulab jamun) but not enough to set fire to hundreds of square kilometers.

I hope that you will take the time to develop this type of calculation skill -- it is not hard. The main thing that a scientist must do is calculate everything for himself -- never trust anyone else's results on faith, because all humans are fallible. Even respectable scientists are fallible! The only things that you can know for certain are the ones that you can verify yourself.

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia and for being part of the community. At 15 years old that is very good indeed. I hope that you will continue to contribute! zowie 16:19, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:AuroraC.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:AuroraC.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Removal of text

[edit]

Hi! Removal of a discussion [1] from a talk page is not considered to be a good practice in wikipedia. I have reverted. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:10, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The text in question was the personal opinion of a user. We have requested him use a blog instead. Comments such as these are archived periodically, and if the user tries to publish his views again, we can easily fish out older instances of his post, and use this as an example on how not to abuse wikipedia talk pages. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:19, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism on userpage

[edit]

I see that you have removed the offending comments. Vandals tend to sometimes come across userpages or articles and leave content like that. Sometimes other users spot it and will remove it before you ever notice it was there. If you ever see stuff like that remove it. If it returns, click the history tab and find out who is putting it there. From there you can find an Administrator and let them know what is going on and who is doing it, and they will take care of it. There is a long list of administrators there that will help you. I am sorry that you had this happen to you. There is very little that can be done to keep it from happening. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 23:42, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your accusation of vandalism (message on my talkpage)

[edit]

Hi, this is a huge misunderstanding. I never abused you but rather reverted the abusive comments which a vandal left at your userpage. Please look here You'll see that an anonymous user (59.178.23.56) made the commments (see left half) and I reverted them afterwards, stating in the edit summary "Reverted 1 edit by 59.178.23.56 (talk) to last revision (73899031) by Sushant gupta using VP". Further, I also told the vandal on his talk page that he shall not again vandalise your user page. I'm sorry for youo thinking, that I vandalised your userpage, this was not my intention at all. Contact me if there are further questions. --Mbimmler 12:31, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Aparna Lalji Popat.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aparna Lalji Popat.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
