File:Atlanticpuffin4.jpg Hello Srikeit. Thank you for spending so much time in preparing and nominating me for my request for adminship with such a enthusiastic, gracious and effective nomination, as well as defending me when necessary and updating the tally to keep things running smoothly. Of course, I feel that your statement in my Editor review was also influential, as it was quoted by many RfA participants. The final overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0) was in large part, I feel, due to your nomination statement, and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. If you have any admin requests, please leave a message - and of course, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. Of course, I look forward to working with you in the future. Hi, Srikeit.

Hi, Srikeit. I forgot to say something to you. Thanks you for catcing vandalism on my page before about 2weeks ago. I haven't had time to send you message. Ahh, Did you already request adminship in RFA? If you requested for becoming admin, I would nominate you to be admin. I think that you usually make more wikipedian friends in Esperanza. Me, too. I try to find more friends in Esperanza. Anyways, Hope you could send me message. Bye, Have a great day. Daniel5127, 06:01, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

Attention All POTD members!

Wikipedia:Random picture of the day (formerly User:GeorgeMoney/potd) has been nominated for deletion by Hetar because he doesn't like a rule that could have just been discussed on the talk page instead of nominating it for deletion. Please vote on the MfD page. Thanks, GeorgeMoney T·C 15:26, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi

Sorry, I haven't heard of the template about defamation; sometimes I do put in a manual comment about rumourmongering, but I wasn't aware of the template. The week has been pretty normal until today - I was just deleting stuff (it's extremely boring and not at all uplifting) mostly, closing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion//France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 (I only got halfway through removing the AfD tag and putting a notice in the talkpage on Friday for a block nomination of about 37 articles) and a few blocks until today - it got interesting when I blocked User:PatCheng this morning for swearing, and then three other editors who he was editing with and against (pro and anti-Chinese Communist Party revert warring) came and started lobbying me to block the other - you can read the whole talk page for the full detail - and then they argued about 3RR and sockpuppets all over the 3RR and CheckUser and gave each other vandalism warnings for doing POV. Need more admins I think, especially those doing NP patrol. Maybe I should nominate some of them. I could nominate you also, but I think mid-July would be a good time to wait until. Also, did you know about Wikipedia:Wikihalo nomination/Sango123 - I bumped into the place randomly and it appears not many people know about it. Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 07:27, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Rfa duplicate vote (in Gurch)

Hey, I am still new here so I am not completely read on all policy issues. I noticed that you added a note below my message saying "duplicate vote" when in fact I crossed out my previous vote and changed it to support. Was I not supposed to add it to the support section, and instead just put support under my original neutral post? Thanks. --SomeStranger (T | C) 16:49, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Vandal

Hi. Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my talk page. I'm not sure if you're an admin, but to let you know that vandal is now operating under the name Shaanxiquake (wow, just like the CIA) and vandelised my page again. Could you block them? Ideally you would hunt them and shoot them, but I'll settle for a block. Why do I get such abuse for thinking Michael Jackson is a bit suspicious? Some weird people out there. Clerk

Hi Srikeit. You caught me on the way to bed. It so happened last night I was helping Essjay convert the old pages into new pages. Prodego is also quite active. If you've looked at the various clerk pages that's basically it. You,

  • Watch new requests
fix improper formatting. If users get in an argument, politely ask them to take it to ANI; if the argument gets too long, delete it but leave diff. If you answer any questions, say as little as possible (avoid this).
  • Completed requests
When a request is completed or denied, move it to the proper section. If someone comes back with additional claims, move it back up into outstanding. Optional, notify the filer.
  • Archiving
we have kind of decided to archive after 4 days or after the orginal filer acknowledges the answer. To archive, 1)remove the name of the subpage from the list, 2)tag the subpage with the closing templates, and 3)add the name of the subpage and the name of all the accused socks to the /Case page.

Indexing the archived cases is probably the most complicated part; dealing with back and forth arguments may be more time consuming. Who really knows, though, this is new. Today there were no new requests! Basically, Essjay wants us to deal with the drudge work so he doesn't get burned out. I'm sure it will be a learning experience for everyone (including Essjay). Glad to have you on board. Thatcher131 06:16, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi again. Can you use an edit summary like "archiving" rather than "rm" (to avoid any possible confusion by others)? thanks. Thatcher131 18:34, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
  • I thought it was borderline, since there was at least an allegation. If you look in on Essjay's talk page you will see he is mainly concerned with avoiding the bad feeling that developed when it seemed like Arbcom clerks were doing too much. There have already been two cases on RFCU where the parties specifically appealed to the clerks for help, so it's likely we conveyed too strong an impression on our first few days. I personally am going to try and keep my clerking to stopping out of control discussions and fixing formatting problems as much as possible until all of us (including Essjay) get a better idea of how this works. Good archiving too; I was a bit confused until the first couple times I did it. Thatcher131 18:50, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

It looks like your archives are fine. The cases that don't have the socks listed were put there by Essjay on the first day of the new subpage system. He went through the January archive and manually created subpages for all the old cases and listed them on /Case. I'm sure he would be happy for you to go through and add the socks, but in some cases (Lightbringer, Waya Sahoni, etc.) there are just going to be too many to list. Thatcher131 03:37, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Whoops You need to be careful with the archiving. It's trickier then a straight move because there are a lot of multiple reports on the same people. Take a time out while I write a longer message. Thatcher131 03:39, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
  • When going through the archives you need to read the requests carefully to make sure you list it under the right name. I recognized two of your mistakes because I've been browsing RFCU and ANI for a while. In the case of Jimboiain, the actual sock puppet master is ZoeCroydon (talk), and in the case of ThoMas the puppetmaster is Rgulerdem (talk). If it's not clear from reading the case, you can check the user pages and see how they are tagged. Since ZoeCroyden and Rgulerdem are repeat vandals, they will probably have more CU cases in the archives, so they should be listed as such. Why don't you do a page move on each and relist them.
When listing multiple cases on the same primary vandal they should be combined on the same page. See DickyRobert for an example. You'll open the existing page rather than a new page, and paste the new case at the bottom surrounded by the close tags. It is necessary to at least skim the request to see who is the puppetmaster, if one is identified, and list as such, and if its a repeat puppet master, list on the same page. (CU was only invented in January of this year, and obviously was not as formal at the begining as it is now.)
The other thing is that Essjay wants to keep the multiple checks in roughly chronological order. Fortunately, the CU's on Rgulerdem and ZoeCroydon are the first ones in the archive; however it would be better to finish February first.
As far as procedure, no shortcuts unfortunately. I have heard talk of a bot, but the bot's owner is packing to move back home from college, and even if there was a bot some of the older requests are so oddly formatted I don't know how it would work. I simply open a new page (or go to the existing page of a repeat vandal), paste in the old request with the minimum reformatting necessary, add the close tags and save, then list as usual. It would be best for vandals with multple reports to be listed on the same page (although an occassional slip won't really hurt anything).
I'm getting off for the night so you can work on Feb without causing any edit conflicts with me. Cheers. Thatcher131 04:00, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
  • I was trying to find a couple more examples. One is Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Braaad, which was actually listed as Henry the Eighth but from the discussion its obvious Braaad is the puppet master. Of course, I haven't always followed my own advice. Take a look at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Reverend Abramovich (that guy should get a prize!) although it was suspected he was Timecop and Timecop already had his own page, due to the enormous number I left it as its own page. There's no way it will ever be perfect of course. (also note that GeorgeMoney changed the name of the CU he was listed on so he wouldn't be first on the page (it's now listed under General Eisenhower.) That's what I had in mind for ZoeCroydon and Rgulerdem. Thatcher131 04:15, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Have another look please

Vandalism to my talk page

Thanks for the help with 172.144.192.236 who seems intent on being blocked. I went to WP:AIV to report this IP and you'd got there first. Much appreciated. All the best, Gwernol 16:31, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

CU archive

That's ok. I'm doing one more and then I'm going out. I'm working from the bottom up so just start at the top. :) Thatcher131 18:33, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

  • I don't think it matters. The only real finding was that Eggster was using an IP and none of the others were related. Since Eggster is already listed under Young Zaphod, there's nothing new here and we probably won't encounter Jlambert and the others again, so pick any one of the first three. Thatcher131 19:07, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

There are about 14 people with CU permission. If one of them doesn't see the backlog and clear it, someone will probably complain about it. That's not going to be me. Vandals etc. should be blocked without waiting for CU and most of the current open requests are going to get declined anyway, so I don't see any problem if people have to wait a couple of days. Thatcher131 19:59, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Metadata & cricket

I only got as far as updating a few on my watchlist as well as all the Australian captains and the Western Australian players and then ran out of steam. It was a very boring job. Persondata is one of those things that need a critical mass to be useful I think. Hopefully some-one will come up with a tool to automate the update process by scraping data out of the article. I could see an extension off AWB possibly doing this. Yes, it has gone quiet hasn't it? I've been focussing on local articles lately so haven't been paying too much attention to cricket of late, but no doubt interest will pick up later in the year when England tours Australia for the Ashes. A hugely anticipated tour down here. Cricket normally drops off the radar in Aus at this time of the year as the country focusses on AFL football as well as at the moment the Soccer World Cup. I see the Windies are giving your mob a hard time in the Caribbean at the moment. :-( Kind regards and keep up the good work! -- I@ntalk 01:51, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Quest for Ahmedabad

I like your new signature. Personally, I have never had any problems with anyone's sig, but the shorter the better seems to be the call of the day. 3 DYKs in 3 days was a nice surprise. I have not forgotten Ahmedabad, but things are going at a slow pace just now. I tried to find some good books and have also asked a friends of mine who practically lives in libraries to keep a lookout for good books on Ahmedabad. I have completely exhausted all details in the 2 books that I have. And finding things on the net is not easy. But I have not abandoned Ahmedabad. In fact, 2 out of the 3 DYKs were as a result of my research on Ahmedabad - ASE and Sarabhai. Most of the people here deserve a mention at DYK. - Aksi_great (talk) 09:11, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

RFCU (JamieAdams and others)

I don't get the point. noinclude tags are already added in the Rfcua and Rfcub templates when we close a discussion. When somone comments on an open case, it should be added to the open case. I think JamieAdams is recent enough that the new info should be added to the same page--by noincluding it, you will force users to do extra clicks to find out the earlier history. That's the way it will work when the old case is acutally old, but in this case since it wasn't archived yet, the new info should be visible on the main page.

The real problem is stopping people from being confused and opening repeat cases with new names; we need a way to let them know to add info to the existing page instead. Thatcher131 15:19, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your support in my RfA, which ended with the result of (74/0/0). If there is anything I can help with feel free to ask. Also, if there is anything I am doing wrong, please point that out as well. I look forward to working with you in the future.
