Jalen Johnson and Jeremy Roach

[edit]

Hello. I fully appreciate you updated MarJon Beauchamp page after he decided to forgo college.

So, I created Jalen Johnson and Jeremy Roach pages who are Duke commits. I added a few references for both of them and I was wondering if you can expand on their pages. Thanks!

Billgatenguyen (talk) 8:06, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

@Billgatenguyen: I will consider expanding those pages in the future, although there are a few more important high school player pages like Evan Mobley and Jalen Green that need to be expanded.
Since you are an extended confirmed user and often edit high school basketball bios, can you please add high school team colors to Module:Sports color/basketball, so that team colors appear on the infobox for all high school players? You may not be familiar with editing this page, but all you have to do is replace the information under "U.S. High School" with the following (without the bullet points):
@Sportzeditz: I added the high school team colors to the Module:Sports color/basketball! I also created Scottie Barnes if you want to expand it in the future.

Billgatenguyen (talk) 8:43, 13 August 2019 (UTC)

@Billgatenguyen: Thank you for adding the colors, but also make sure you delete the old high school color data. Also, I have made a few changes to the list below, so please update the team colors whenever you can.

College players

[edit]

Thanks for the heads up. I have created Grant Riller. I will tackle Tyler Bey tomorrow. Keep up the good work and always let me know of potential collaborations. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 00:12, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Editorofthewiki: Thank you for the help. Please also look into doing the same for Draft:Antoine Davis. Sportzeditz (talk) 15:38, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have created all three articles, as well as Bey's teammate McKinley Wright. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 21:37, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: If you are interested in expanding or creating more colege career sections, please take a look at Draft:Kira Lewis Jr. and Draft:Desmond Bane. Sportzeditz (talk) 15:37, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: Also, Draft:Landers Nolley II. Sportzeditz (talk) 21:47, 6 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've expanded and moved to mainspace all the drafts. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 17:51, 10 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: Thank you again for the help. I have created two more drafts, Draft:Luka Garza and Draft:Breein Tyree, that need a college career section created. Sportzeditz (talk) 16:31, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've created those two. Between the two of us we will create all the notable college players! Maybe try to bring some to GA? ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 23:45, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: More notable players: Draft:Joe Wieskamp, Draft:Bryce Aiken, Draft:Jalen Pickett, Draft:Robert Woodard II Sportzeditz (talk) 21:35, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: In addition to those, I also recommend expanding and cleaning up Jordan Nwora and Cassius Winston, two of the top college players, as well as creating the college section for Draft:Jhivvan Jackson. Sportzeditz (talk) 22:37, 24 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've created all the drafts you made. Will try to tackle the other players soon. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 17:13, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Now I've created Jhivvan Jackson and expanded Cassius Winston somewhat, though it needs more. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 15:54, 6 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: Thank you. Feel free to add to and create Draft:Daniel Oturu and Draft:Elijah Hughes, as well as Draft:Matt Haarms, Draft:Markell Johnson and Draft:Marcus Carr. Sportzeditz (talk) 17:19, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you guys are looking for something to do, give Nico Carvacho of Colorado State a try. He led the country in rebounding last year and became the Mountain West all-time leader earlier this year. He is a red link on the season rebounding leader template as well as several other pages where that turns up. I’ve had him on my list for a long time and can’t ever find the time to create it Rikster2 (talk) 21:16, 13 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have created three more drafts, Draft:John Mooney (basketball), Draft:Nathan Knight and Draft:Joseph Girard III, if anyone is interested. Also, the college career sections of Draft:Markell Johnson and Draft:Marcus Carr need to be created. Sportzeditz (talk) 00:03, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I created Draft:Nahziah Carter, There's a good amount of national coverage on him given he's also Jay Z's nephew but the draft needs to be filled out. Best, GPL93 (talk) 19:04, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have created the majority of these including Nico Carvacho for User:Rikster2. Additionally, I have created Draft:Jermaine Samuels for a Villanova player who has been playing very well lately. Feel free to contribute to any of these. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 20:33, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

All of these have been created, except for Joseph Girard, who I'm not sure is notable as of yet. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 18:35, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Editorofthewiki: Girard is probably notable because he received a lot of media coverage in high school. Some more notable college players are C. J. Elleby, Alpha Diallo, Jalen Crutcher, Freddie Gillespie, and Emmitt Williams (college section). I also suggest expanding and copy-editing Jordan Nwora if you are interested. Sportzeditz (talk) 20:28, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I took a nice pic of Jalen Crutcher in the same game as the one I added to Obi Toppin’s article. If one of you guys end up creating the article I will add it. Rikster2 (talk) 16:25, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Rikster2 It's a great shot of Toppin. I've added a bit to the Girard and Crutcher drafts and created a draft for Mason Jones who's averaging almost 20 a game for Arkansas. Best, GPL93 (talk) 16:17, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've created Crutcher. Feel free to add the picture. Will try to tackle the others soon. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 18:07, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have created drafts for Oscar da Silva, AJ Green and Isaiah Washington. da Silva may not have enough sources to be notable yet, but there is a lot of info available on Green. Sportzeditz (talk) 19:12, 5 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think I have provided enough sources in Draft:Joseph Girard III to establish a GNG pass but it is still rather rough around the edges. Best, GPL93 (talk) 14:30, 11 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Another player who is definitely notable is Jalen Harris. If anyone is interested, feel free to add to it. The college career section for Fatts Russell needs expansion. Sportzeditz (talk) 19:11, 12 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have also created a draft for Tyrell Terry, who is considered a potential first-round NBA draft pick. Feel free to add to that page. Additionally, the college career section for Chris Lykes needs to be created. Sportzeditz (talk) 02:20, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Most of these have been created, except Tyrell Terry. Have also started Alpha Diallo (basketball, born 1997). ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 16:50, 22 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: Some more college bios I would suggest creating, in addition to Tyrell Terry, are Sam Hauser, Christian Vital, D. J. Carton, Colbey Ross, Chris Smith, Romeo Weems, Jermaine Marrow and Pat Spencer. Sportzeditz (talk) 16:30, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: Two more notable college players that you are free to create: Justin Kier and Cartier Diarra Sportzeditz (talk) 15:24, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Editorofthewiki: Feel free to also create the college section for Jordan Burns, another notable college player, as well as any others mentioned above that haven't been created Sportzeditz (talk) 18:37, 27 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A few more drafts that anyone can take up if interested: Draft:Olivier Sarr, Draft:Goodluck Okonoboh, Draft:Cameron Jackson, Draft:Tyson Carter (college section), Draft:Colbey Ross (college section), Draft:Charles Williams (basketball) (college section), Draft:Derrick Alston Jr. (high school/college), Draft:Jose Alvarado, Draft:Devin Cannady (college section), Draft:D'Mitrik Trice (college section), Draft:Nate Reuvers (college section), Draft:Geo Baker (college section), Draft:Timmy Allen (college section), Draft:MaCio Teague Sportzeditz (talk) 23:17, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Nesmith

[edit]

Thanks for restoring Draft:Aaron Nesmith I was able to find four more reliable sources (Hence why I started a draft) and I'll go through ESPN+'s draft coverage to see if there's anything substantial as well. He might now pass GNG although I think it's probably best if it's in the draft space for a while. Let me know if you ever need help with any basketball articles and keep up the good editing. Best, GPL93 (talk) 15:08, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

High school basketball players

[edit]

I have made drafts of three basketball players: Draft:Jalen Suggs, Draft:Chet Holmgren, Draft:B. J. Boston, and Draft:Greg Brown. If you have time, can you expand on their pages? Thanks!

Billgatenguyen (talk) 3:42, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Also, I created Draft:Day'Ron Sharpe and Draft:Walker Kessler, and Draft:Caleb Love.

Billgatenguyen (talk) 5:27, 23 January 2020 (UTC)

I created most of the 2020 McDonald's All-American players: Draft:R. J. Davis, Draft:Dawson Garcia, Draft:D. J. Steward, Draft:Mark Williams (basketball), and Draft:Bryce Thompson if you have to time to expand of them.

Billgatenguyen (talk) 12:03, 24 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I created Draft:D. J. Wagner, the number one player in 2023 class. Also, check out Azzi Fudd who is the number one player in the 2021 class.

Billgatenguyen (talk) 8:54, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

AfC notification: Draft:Jalen Crutcher has a new comment

[edit]
I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Jalen Crutcher. Thanks! Hammersoft (talk) 00:48, 2 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You're a beast!

[edit]

Hey Sportzeditz, just wanted to say [a] you're a beast at cranking out well-written, well-sourced contemporary college basketball player articles, and [b] was wondering if you'd be interested in tackling a handful of notable historical players?

WikiProject College Basketball's goal is to eventually have articles on every all-time NCAA Division I conference player of the year. As of today, only two POY list-articles (ECC POY & SWC POY) of defunct Division I conferences still contain red links. In other words, once they're complete, they're complete. No need to worry about keeping up with article creations every single year.

I used to have a lot more time to crafting full-fledged articles, and I still try to jump in when possible, but my torch has been mostly passed by now. If you're ever feeling up to it, because believe me I know that editing is a volunteer gig, WP:CBBALL would love your help in tackling those red links.

No matter your decision, keep up the great work. SportsGuy789 (talk) 17:20, 24 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all your new articles! When you create a new article, is there any chance you could check if there is already a Wikidata item for that person and add the sitelink (example)? This is a great way to link related articles on other Wikipedias and may also be a useful source of data about that person. If you don't want to do this, then not to worry. Congratulations, and great to see Paige Bueckers on the Main page today, "one of the most promising women's basketball players and currently a top player at the college level for UConn. She was considered the best high school basketball player in the United States at Hopkins High School in Minnesota, and had a historic first season at UConn, becoming the first freshman to win a national college player of the year award. Bueckers has several gold medals representing the United States in youth tournaments."! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:21, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Paige Bueckers scheduled for TFA

[edit]

This is to let you know that the Paige Bueckers article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 28, 2022. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 28, 2022, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 15:58, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nice to see your work on the front page today. Somehow youtube's algorithm announced hard-working Paige to me several years ago. I have followed her career with interest and appreciate your documentation of a good BLP, her best still being in front of her. As an aside, I often use UConn as an example of great coaching, leading to great tradition, leading to great recruiting, leading to high achievement. Paige is a fun player to watch because she is highly skilled, but she chooses to be a great team player, often promoting her teammates and her peers. It is nice to see a damned-fine human being covered by media; it is wonderful that you managed the page to FA; it is a delight to see you bring such a rare person to world-wide attention through today's TFA. Super work! BusterD (talk) 19:58, 28 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

On 18 May 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The Freshies (basketball), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 2019 South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball recruiting class (pictured) is known as the Freshies after the name of the group chat they created before their freshman year? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The Freshies (basketball). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, The Freshies (basketball)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Crossover at Kinnick

[edit]

I bought a ticket for the Crossover at Kinnick, but was unable to attend. I did watch the event. I took a look at the main article on the Iowa Hawkeyes and saw a single sentence about the event, and decided to expand. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until after I had written up a couple paragraphs that you would started a separate article about the event.

I still think the main article Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball deserves more than a single sentence, but had I seen the standalone article I might have handled it differently.

I am happy to discuss what if anything could be done in case something needs to be done. S Philbrick(Talk) 18:42, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jaz Shelley

[edit]

Thanks for the excellent work you did on Jaz Shelley. I thought the available photo was not up to par with the overall quality of the article so I reached out to the Nebraska athletic department and they graciously provided a very nice photo which I just added to the article. Latson article and photo

[edit]

Thanks for the crop you applied to Ta'Niya Latson. I'm a neophyte when it comes to photo editing and I knew we had a crop tool, but I couldn't remember exactly where it was so I turned to other things while I thought about how best to find it. I contacted the Florida State athletic department to get that photo because I saw you did a great job on the article and thought it deserved a photo. S Philbrick(Talk) 17:09, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sportzeditz! Came across this page on Gabe Cupps a couple weeks ago and did some cleanup, but it still requires a lot more. I'm just dropping this here in case you're interested, seeing as you've created tons of other great articles on athletes. Cheers! JTtheOG (talk) 18:46, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you today for the article, about "one of the top players in women's college basketball, who is best known for leading LSU to its first national championship this year after transferring from Maryland. Reese was the #2 player in her high school class at Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland, only behind Paige Bueckers, my first FA. I believe this article meets FA criteria by being comprehensive, well-sourced and illustrated. As with the Bueckers article, it is early in the subject's career but I expect to keep the article updated"! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:44, 29 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Honorable mention honors

[edit]

Hey Sportzeditz, I was hoping to get your thoughts on this. I have long understood that honorable mention All-American honors do not get put infoboxes, but I feel like I have seen it more and more as of late, both in men's and women's articles: (Max Abmas, Saddiq Bey, Tucker DeVries, Ron Harper Jr., Mason Jones, Sam Merrill, David Roddy, Wade Taylor IV, Marcus Zegarowski, Bella Alarie, Kierstan Bell, Monika Czinano, Rennia Davis, Jasmine Dickey, Aaliyah Edwards, etc.) I admit that I don't hate the look of it, especially when done in the "All-American – AP" format, but this does not comply with our style manual, correct? JTtheOG (talk) 18:52, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JTtheOG: I don't think they should be included, because honorable mention is typically not shown in any other cases, such as conference awards. If they are included, it should not be limited to the AP, as the other selectors also name an honorable mention. Sportzeditz (talk) 23:11, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NBA vs WNBA edits - penny for your thoughts?

[edit]

Hi Sportzeditz! Would love to pick your brain on NBA vs WNBA edits.

I had been working on adding citations and formatting the WNBA Rookie of the Year Award page in the style of other WNBA post-season award pages (see WNBA Most Improved Player Award or WNBA Most Improved Player Award). However, given the increasing interest in the WNBA, there now seems to some crossover in WNBA and NBA edits and editors. So, now the WNBA ROTY award has been thoroughly re-formatted in the style of the NBA Rookie of the Year Award and all citations I had been adding to article removed.

Is there a consensus on NBA vs WNBA formatting and table formatting? Still learning my way through the WNBA wiki editing standards and would appreciate any thoughts and insight you have. Thanks! Mariacricket (talk) 01:15, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Caitlin Clark

[edit]

Hi. I don't usually follow sports, or sports articles on WP, but I have noticed Clark's accomplishments to date and the attention she receives. I am writing to you because you nominated the article for FA and succeeded in promoting it -- congratulations on that. To match the high quality of the earlier sections of the article, I think the newer material in the article needs some attention from someone like you who knows how to write high-quality sports articles. Her WNBA season discussion is currently in "Clark did this, then she did that" format. It needs more analysis and discussion of the interesting issues surrounding her rookie season. There was a furor regarding why she was not selected for the Olympic team (and how she would presumably have brought more attention/viewers to the WNBA team's games at the Olympics). Other major topics of discussion throughout the season centered on her influence on attendance and viewership of WNBA games both at home and away, race issues, including bad behavior by her supposed fans (and her reaction to this), the treatment of Clark herself by other players, Clark's (I think) extraordinary grace in discussing her interactions with fans, teammates and non-teammate players, all of which were extensively covered in the press. Plus some discussion of how she became a leader of the Fever so quickly and strongly influenced their playing style and success as a team; and I think it is worth noting that in interviews and post-game conferences throughout the season, she almost always mentioned that her goal was to get the team to the playoffs. I'm sure there are other fascinating issues about her professional career so far that you know about, but I have missed or that would jump out from a review of the press coverage during the season. On the other side of the coin, it seems likely that, as her professional career goes on, and there is more and more to say about it, the discussion of her college career could be trimmed/streamlined a little, per WP:BALASP. Just a thought. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 09:21, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
