Native scripts on biographies
Hey Spiff. I'm unsure about WP's policy on writing names in native scripts in a bio. User:keyan20 has reverted me on this article, and has stated "Her ancestors were tamils and that Only counts", while the subject herself has claimed to be from Kerala. I'm unsure of whether to revert him again. Please advise. Talkback on my profile plese - Amog | Talk • contribs 15:48, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
- There are a couple of issues at play here. As far as other scripts, general consensus has been that it should be only (a) the native script of the subject, e.g. R. K. Narayan has Tamil script because of his native tongue and the fact that he has some contribution to Tamil arts although he lived in Mysore for a major part of his life and/or (2) any script in the language that the subject has significant contributions in, e.g. Rajnikanth has Tamil script because of extensive contributions to Tamil arts and so on. Any exceptions should be handled at the talk page before addition. I don't know about Sudha Chandran except for Mayuri which if I'm not mistaken was a Telugu movie dubbed in Tamil. So unless reliable sources support either of the two aspects, Tamil script shouldn't be there. The other part of the issue, we have a serious WP:COMPETENCE issue with User:keyan20, copyright violations, mass POV words and fanboy edits relating to pushing an extreme Tamil POV. I think a visit to ANI is due sometime soon. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 04:27, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- I've started a discussion on the talk. And yeah, I've been following keyan's work for quite a while now. He does seem to take his naive user act a little too far. ANI seems to be inevitable. Thank you for your help! - Amog | Talk • contribs 06:43, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Bhartiya Rashtrageet
It is deleted instead of removing all copyright elements talk to me why??? Pran (talk) 13:46, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- You've been told before not to create duplicate articles where they exist, yet you continue to do so to promote "your title of choice". Do not do that again. If you have anything to contribute, follow our WP:V policy and contribute within the articles, not create copy pastes from both WP and external sites. And lay off the attacks. —SpacemanSpiff 13:54, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

I have a feeling that User:Babyboy33 and User:Padmalakshmisx are one and the same, sockpuppet style. BollyJeff || talk 13:48, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Pranavkarnik92's sock?
A month back the account Mackolinson removed something from your talk page and stopped editing after that. Today while stalking your talk page, i came across User talk:Pranavkarnik92, whose talk page says "Hello! I am Mac Kolinson, from USA". Sock?--Sodabottle (talk) 14:47, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yup, that's him. I think I should file an SPI, this looks like the returning version of someone else and Pranavkarnink92 is just another sock. —SpacemanSpiff 16:06, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Institute_of_Chartered_Accountants_of_India Assessment to C Class
Can you tell me why you have degraded the above article to C Class? Please explain the measures that have to be take to improve the article. Please place a talkback in my talk page. R.Sivanesh ✆ 12:42, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- See WP:ASSESS for how the general rating system works (there's also a WP India page on specific ratings, but I can't seem to find it now). The article is written almost entirely using primary sources. In addition it is written like the marketing brochure of the organization, not like a neutral third party publication. It focuses too much on minutiae that's relevant to some, but does not address the organization in a manner that a majority of our editors would find helpful. As I mentioned in my e I believe it should be start class, but just because of the amount of content, I brought it down to a C. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 14:53, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
- For your reference History of India and Indian Institutes of Technology are decent examples for B-Class articles. —SpacemanSpiff 15:22, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

- Not really, you are making unsourced changes and he is correctly reverting them. You may be right, but Wikipedia content should be verifiable and the threshold for inclusion is verifiability, not truth. Just curious — why did you tag this for F3 speedy deletion? The permissions template, {{CopyrightedFreeUseProvided}}, is a standard permissions template, and it's included in the "Free images" section of Wikipedia:Template messages/File namespace. Nyttend (talk) 02:37, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Indian states
Three examples of usage in The Imperial Gazetteer of India
- Talk:Nawanagar#Requested move
- Talk:Pudukkottai_state#Requested_move
- Talk:Bastar_state#Requested_move
If you object to have all states as XXX State, maybe at least you could vote on these. The latter two have misinformed oppose votes, which would maybe stop a move of these. TopoChecker (talk) 19:06, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Kundalini Yoga page
You are just not answering the question. It's like going backwards talking to you, but I'll try again... 1) Put your reading glasses on - there is no other mention of the main teacher, master and school of kundalini yoga in this article.. although there certainly should be, right? 2) how do you reconcile this page with the karma yoga page? and 3) Being that there is a huge section of people who practice Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, and they all call it "Kundalini yoga", then where IS the place for it in general as encyclopedic article? And finally, although this is redundant.. 4) Exactly why should this article NOT mention Yogi Bhajan in the header if that's how Kundalini Yoga teachings are popularly, and primarily recognized - being cited from every major source from the US Government [1] to other huge yoga teachers, and all sorts of other primary sources (plus a million google pages)? Sorry that I have to treat you like a child, but since you avoid it all before, please kindly answer each question fully and properly. RogerThatOne72 (talk) 12:45, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Fatehji, you've been answered exactly those questions before, including a warning at ANI in the past, you've just decided to use new socks since then, so no point in continuing the discussion. —SpacemanSpiff 12:46, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hunh? Um... where are these questions answered?? You have never answered them, nor has anyone else. And you are full of it... I have not used any "socks". Sometimes I forget to sign in, but the IPs match, so I'm not hiding anything... Again, you are just acting like a rouge police... Not answering questions that are perfectly legitimate... because you feel like you are above them or something? Sounds a lot like fascism. If they are simple answers, just answer them now. Show your kind side, and "humor me". 66.65.62.138 (talk) 01:22, 24 January 2011 (UTC) . There... RogerThatOne72 (talk) 01:24, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

I get your game. It's cute. Avoid answering anything, reading anything, and then report me when I make changes. How convenient. RogerThatOne72 (talk) 04:05, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey_Ram
Hello, Please let me know if the pic "Hey_Ram.jpg" is fixed now. The film involves the association of two major professionals Kamal Haasan and Shah Rukh Khan. There is another professional Nasruddin Shah playing Gandhi n so let me know if it can be uploaded. Is there any limit to the number of pics, a user can upload?
Imemadhu (talk) 17:54, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- The problem is not the no of non-free image uploads by one user, but the number and relevance of use in one article. Right now none of the images you've added appear to satisfy the non-free use criteria for Kamal Haasan and are likely to be removed from the article and deleted soon. —SpacemanSpiff 11:13, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Cultural after effects of Sino Indian Conflict
The effects of a war / conflict are quite varied and found most notably in the minds of the people involved in the conflict. The best measure of this can be found in cultural references to the war and the art that the war inspires.
Where is that aspect being covered in this Essay ? If I knew more i would have added a new sub topic, But I only know so much and that I have put into words.
On what basis was it decided that this was my opinion? I have given a wiki link to the song and the story which it inspired.I believe this to be a part of the effects of war and must be covered in this topic. Or you can throw works like the mahabharata or Troy (which have the main event as a war) out.
Please read the extract from the song Aye mere watan ke logon(link provided ""Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo" (ए मेरे वतन के लोगों) ("O! the people of my country!") is an Indian patriotic song written in Hindi by Pradeep and composed by C. Ramchandra commemorating Indian soldiers who died during the Sino-Indian War. It was famously performed live by Lata Mangeshkar in the presence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru at the Ramlila grounds in New Delhi on Republic Day (26 January) 1963, several months after the end of the war.[1] "
I do not know whether you live in India or not , but around here , the cultural aspect of this song is part of common lore. What I wrote "Culturally too . . . . expressed greater understanding and empathy in their being One nation with Hindi cinema songs like ae mere watan ke logon (Oh people of my nation) . . . ."
is reflected in the songs .Please look at the lyrics
koii sikh koI jaaT maraaThaa
koii gurakhaa koI madaraasii
sarahad pe maranevaalaa
har viir thaa bhaaratavaasii
translated thus
"
some were sikh, some were jaat and some maratha
some were Gurkha and some from madras
whoever died at the border
every such warrior was an Indian
"
ending with

If there is a problem with my statements on pak conflicts being an extended civil war , remove them. But to negate this cultural emotive response to this war is not done IMHO. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chimesmonster (talk • contribs) 06:12, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- What you are doing is original research. Find a reliable source which deals with this issue .I believe you are essentially correct - there was a surge of nationalist sentiment in the wake of the 62 war with many movies being made about them /songs sung etc. But what you need is a published book to support this assertion. Also when someone disputes your content, please dont readd it without establishing consensus in talk page first (see WP:BRD)--Sodabottle (talk) 06:37, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, but this is not an essay, it is an encyclopaedia article. If you wish to publish your thoughts, you will need to find alternate outlets, Wikipedia is not the place. It goes for this article as well as the others such as Ramachandra Guha where you insert your original thoughts. —SpacemanSpiff 08:43, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
He's baaaack
I noticed that the SPI report was added onto by some other editors:
Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Padmalakshmisx/Archive
It looks like he is back again as Special:Contributions/Legitimateuserqa. Clever name.
I think that he will never give up. BollyJeff || talk 19:22, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- He creates a few at a time, so create a case at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Padmalakshmisx, meantime I'll see if I can handle this and any other. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 19:29, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know how to add to an existing report. Have you seen this kind of behavior before? What is the normal outcome; they learn to do better, or they give up? BollyJeff || talk 23:23, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
- Just add like a new case on the original page -- linked by me above. As and when cases are addressed, they'll be archived to the page that you linked above. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 04:15, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

ramchandra Guha
I notice you have reverted the edit by me on ramachandra guha , calling it as ORIGINAL Thought.
I have posted etensively , using Mr Guha's Own words on his opinion on Hinduism and Hindu culture.ANd have also provided the link to the interview where he himself utters those words , which i reproduced.
I fail to understand your opposition!!
please help me understand How this is Original Thought!!

- Please show me the quoted text, and any reliable source for "Hindu baiter". THat edit was a WP:BLP violation. —SpacemanSpiff 07:17, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- if that is your ONLY objection , then remove that and post the rest.
RAA Ra Ra your Boat (talk) 07:23, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not going to do any such thing. If you wish to add anything, source it reliably, if not I'll remove it in accordance with policy including but not limited to WP:BLP and WP:NPOV. —SpacemanSpiff 07:26, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
i do not ask you, per se, to post it , i meant , whether it is OK for the post to be made sans the "Hindu baiter " term .
RAA Ra Ra your Boat (talk) 11:29, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
You should know that I can find several cites for the term as well, which i list below.
http://www.scribd.com/doc/30636430/Gandhi-s-Ambedkar-Ramchandra-Guha
http://blog.offstumped.in/2010/02/28/historian-ramachandra-guha-takes-liberties-with-history/
" . . . While one could expect Guha, a known saffron baiter . . . ."
http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/lunchbs-ramachandra-guha/355709/
"Ramachandra Guha, the popular historian who almost relishes controversy . . . "
Quoting verbatim
"
That's not true. The danger in your comment -- that idea that there was greatness in Indian or Hindu civilisation is like that the Ganga it is immortal, pure and beautiful. Like the Ganga that is polluted from source to sea, Hindu civilisation was polluted. Hindu civilisation practised the most degrading form of social behaviour called untouchability.
Hindu civilisation oppressed its women. In Hindu civilisation there was division of manual labour and mental labour.
"
IF you replace these words with say islam civilization , i am sure the word islamophobe can be easily ascribed to Mr. Guha . Yet the charecterization of Mr Guha as a hindu baiter is seemingly incorrect as per you ?
What ,If not this , give you proof ?
RAA Ra Ra your Boat (talk) 11:29, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- Your two blogs are not acceptable as WP:RS. As far as the quote, you have to quote it in context, without the question and the rest of the answer, you're simply POV pushing out here. —SpacemanSpiff 11:34, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- What about the book quote from scib ? And the qn to that was a certain party critisism of hindu civilization, to which Mr Guha clraisfies his view as being all encompassing.Quoting mr guha , "The danger in your comment -- that idea that there was greatness in Indian . . " which he then goes ahead to trash "Like the Ganga that is polluted from source to sea, Hindu civilisation was polluted" .
in fact ,Mr guha has clearly utilized an opportunity to present himself as non partisan person and revealed a deep bias AGAINST the religion and civilization. And did you read the rest of the answer , I will re post that too here. " The greatness of Gandhi, Nehru and Rabindranath Tagore was that they became critics of their culture." Which would also mean , Mr Guha is a critic, a vehement critica at that who calls the whole civilization as Polluted.
"I would rephrase your question and say that as Hindus we were fortunate to have reformers like Gandhi, Ambedkar, Nehru and so on." Which should reveal to any lay person , a bias in favour of these personalities. " They pointed to the weaknesses and fault-lines within Hindu culture and civilisation. "
Which is once again a revert to his point of civilization being a "not great", and "polluted"
By the way, more Hindus vote for the Congress than the BJP so, obviously, they find something attractive in the Congress. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chimesmonster (talk • contribs) 12:27, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- That's exactly what I've been telling you from start, Wikipedia is not the place for you to make judgments; we only report what reliable sources say. You are selectively using a quote to push your point of view, that's simply not allowed. —SpacemanSpiff 12:36, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I posted his views on Hinduism, my post here was primarily his words.Where do you find MY idea other than his being a hindu baiter.
I have asked you before!! Is it OK if theterm is removed and the words he uttered are simply posted as his views on hinduism and Hindu civilization. For that at least is not My POV.
RAA Ra Ra your Boat (talk) 12:39, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- No, I have told you, you can not post what you did, because you were selectively posting part of the quote as a whole. As far as the entire quote, without any discussion in the article, there's no context for it -- and any discussion in the article needs to be supported by reliable sources. —SpacemanSpiff 12:43, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I ask you, I will quote the entire answer , what then will be your issue with this ? or is your bottom line that nothing may be posted at all in that article ?
RAA Ra Ra your Boat (talk) 13:03, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- I have already answered you, we are done here. —SpacemanSpiff 13:07, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
- you have unilaterally ended this discussion , I said I will post the entire answer, but you insist i do not do so , Even though I quote the living person himself! On what basis do you declare that we are Done ? the discrepancy has not been resolved in any fairness. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chimesmonster (talk • contribs) 13:11, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
