Hi, since your name's down on this project, I'm just writing to let you know that there's a discussion going on at the moment on how to format events – and in particular, events that go on for multiple days – on year pages. Your input would be appreciated. — Smjg (talk) 18:23, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Elk

[edit]

Hi, I've reverted your redirects for Elk because (i) there should be consensus to change the name of an article with a long history (such as this WP:FA); (ii) articles should not be moved by copy/pasting, see WP:MOVE. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 10:06, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind correct usage of the word, stick to the rules! Sophie means wisdom (talk) 11:34, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia works by consensus, not strict adherence to rules, although it's also not clear what rule you are referring to. The consnsus time and again, every time this has come up, is to have articles at the names these animals are known by by english speakers who live in their native range, per WP:ENGVAR so there's both a rule and a previous consensus for you on this subject. Also, you removed the entire article on the elk/wapati. How is that helpful? If you want to make such changes, seek consensus for those changes. See the talk archives of both moose and elk for all the previous discussions on these topics. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:45, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

[edit]

Hi, Sophie means wisdom, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and intersex people. LGBT Studies covers people, culture, history, and related subjects concerning sexual identity and gender identity - this covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated! Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve articles, so if someone seeks help, please try to assist if you are able. Likewise feel free to ask for help, advice or clarification.
  • Many important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you're going to stay awhile, please create a square in our project quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

The article Crotophagidae has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unreferenced for over five years, fails WP:V

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Science lovers wanted!

Science lovers wanted!
Hi! I'm serving as the wikipedian-in-residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives until June! One of my goals as resident, is to work with Wikipedians and staff to improve content on Wikipedia about people who have collections held in the Archives - most of these are scientists who held roles within the Smithsonian and/or federal government. I thought you might like to participate since you are interested in the sciences! Sign up to participate here and dive into articles needing expansion and creation on our to-do list. Feel free to make a request for images or materials at the request page, and of course, if you share your successes at the outcomes page you will receive the SIA barnstar! Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to your participation! Sarah (talk) 19:36, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help with Peer Review needed: Jayne Mansfield

[edit]
Peers needed to peer review the article (here) on this peerless actor

A mid-importance article supported by WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers that was reviewed by Version 1.0 Editorial Team and selected for Version 0.7 and subsequent release versions. The article has come a long way from a fan boy mish mash to a fair enough GA. Now is the time to take it to the next level. Currently it's going through another peer review. Please, lend a hand. FSMA Edit

[edit]

Hi Sophie means wisdom. Thank you for contributing to wiki. I noticed you removed the "Food Safety Laws in Other Countries" section on the FSMA article page. Adding that section indicates that other countries are not bound by the US law; I don't think it should be removed. Thank you. Bravura1 (talk) 21:31, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Then every article on every law in the world should list related laws in other countries? It's obvious that laws only apply to single countries. Sophie means wisdom (talk) 10:05, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tiberio Fiorilli

[edit]

Hi, I transferred File:Tiberio Fiorelli.jpg, which you originally uploaded, to Commons:File:Tiberio Fiorelli.jpg. I am guessing you probably found this image on the internet somewhere, but I did not see a url for where you obtained it. Is there any chance you can provide that information? Or perhaps you know the book in which it was originally published. Thanks for help. --Robert.Allen (talk) 09:08, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Since I added the above, I found a very similar version at Gallica, which provides some apparently useful information. --Robert.Allen (talk) 09:14, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I really have no idea where I found it, but this copy has the same dimensions. Sophie means wisdom (talk) 14:21, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Thanks for the url. I will add it to the Commons copy. The url http://www.photo.rmn.fr/LowRes2/TR1/SNX0DO/06-501420.jpg is not yet at the Internet Archive (see [1]). This may mean that it was added to the photo.rmn website since the last capture on 10 July 2011. It's possible it will show up in the next capture. In any case, that looks like a good primary source, regardless of where you actually found it, since it seems unlikely that this site would copy from Wikipedia. On another subject, the only reason I removed the translation of the caption is that the Gallica version does not have that caption, but I have no problem with leaving it in. BTW, the "+1694" notation is possibly intended to indicate that the subject died in 1694. I would not think that the engraving was necessarily created in 1694. Also, since engravers at this time often copied each others work, it is not totally clear which version of the engraving was created first, the one from photo.rmn or the one from Gallica. Since the one from Gallica gives the creator's name and the date of 1700, it may well be the original version. --Robert.Allen (talk) 20:12, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid dating conventions in 17th-century engraving is not my strong suit :s so I'll leave it to you. Sophie means wisdom (talk) 20:33, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I switched the image mainly because the Commons copy [of the one from Gallica] is a much higher resolution image. It's great to have both of these. Thanks again! --Robert.Allen (talk) 20:49, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Dartington, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Falmouth (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Yeah, it's yet another copy and paste of his "it's not opinion, because I say it's "hypothesized to be"" screed.--Mr Fink (talk) 03:53, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Same old jinxy then, despite the new name. Sophie means wisdom (talk) 08:30, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
