Company of Heroes (Micro/Macro)

Ok. I see your point of view. I'll leave it like it is. I thought micromanagement was what you (and to your credit you have Wikipedia on your side) call macro management. Happy editing.

Kane (Command & Conquer) picture

It's not really about 'what I want'. I believe there is a Wiki guideline about pages on fictional characters that literally states that the most recent canonical appearance of the character is the one that should be placed on top of the page.

I learned this the hard way myself from the Big Boss page, where I initially placed a rather cool pic of Naked Snake on top, only to have it reverted back to that Metal Gear Solid 1 artwork of Big Boss in his seventies by other editors for that very same reason. 80.201.170.125 20:19, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Tussen haakjes, ben je een Nederlander of een Belg? 80.201.170.125 20:23, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Nederlander ;-) But I'll continue in English :P It's just that the Tiberian Sun picture is the way most people remember Kane and Kane in the C&C 3 promo is a bit dark and it's only purpose so far was to show the fans that he's back (well, it could be taken from an actual ingame cutscene but still). Like I said, when the game arrives (or new trailers), we'll probably get some better and more recent pictures :-) Simeon87 20:35, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
I can imagine they'd create such guideline though but it might not be that useful in all situations. Simeon87 20:41, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry about getting confused with the language list at Pixel - I didn't see that you'd just moved it. My mistake. :-) Angus Lepper 23:02, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh, it's okay. But it's kinda odd because I've seen fi: being lower in the list in other articles too. Perhaps it's because "Suomi" should be listed lower alphabetically (and by placing it lower in the list, it's listed among other languages that start with an S as well)? - Simeon87 07:36, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Comment

I'm not really sure what this comment was about. This is a public access computer and I just ran across this because I went to the wiki.

>Instead of complaining on talk pages, you could try editting and improve it yourself. Thanks, Simeon87

Isn't it usually best left to people that are knowledgeable on a topic to add to it? If it is bad then it is bad. Having someone just change it because it is bad won't help the wiki.

Well, it referred to the contributions made by someone under that IP: see here. Those contributions weren't really constructive but IP addresses can change, so that's probably why you saw it. If you're not the person who made those edits, then the comment above was not for you. Simeon87 19:20, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:World forge logo.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:World forge logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Prod Warning

JME Molecule Editor

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article JME Molecule Editor, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Whispering 11:59, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I just wikified the article, I have no affiliation with the application described in the article. - Simeon87 12:20, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I would say that change in conclusions I made removed concern about unverified sources. I see the JME Editor page as a brief description of very useful free software (I am using it practically daily) without any over-statements. I am willing to work on updating the page, so please do not further mark it for removal. The best proof of usability of this soft is a Google search on JME eiree

I've placed a response on your talk page. - Simeon87 21:56, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

You were involved with some prod-twiddling on this article (prods shouldn't be re-added, by the way, see WP:PROD), so I figured I'd inform you of the AfD I started on the subject. End transmission. --UsaSatsui 02:33, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:HintScreenshot.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:HintScreenshot.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:45, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry the only reason I blanked those pages was because I deemed them too short to be legible for the "Random Article" link. Please reply on my talkpage. --Gutzky 12:53, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Flight Simulation Changes Are Valid

The addition of the Next Generation Flight Simulation section describes three companies that are developing advanced flight simulators. The purpose of this is to describe some current R&D in flight simulation. None of the companies have anything to sell readers. This is information, not commercialization.

The moving of the theme park ride section to the motion base page is also logical and proper. The flight simulation page should keep focused on actual flight simulation, and not include Disney rides that happen to use Stewart bases. Every flight simulator has user input as part of the control loop. Without that input, it is just a fun ride, not a flight simulator. One link to the motion base page, just so a reader could check it out would be enough, not a paragraph of just links to theme parks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.1.226.2 (talk) 14:47, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

You have to consider that, while I'm not familiar with these companies, it's possible to doubt the statement that there's nothing to sell - after all, why would there be any need to link to that particular section on all other Wikipedia articles about flight simulation? If there's nothing to gain, there would be no need to direct people to that section. But I shall assume good faith as long as there's no promotion going on. - Simeon87 (talk) 15:14, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

You can tell that the links to the companies web pages have nothing to sell by clicking on them and seeing for yourself. Moran Simulation web page isn't even online at the present.

Flight simulation changes part 2

The links in the next gen section have been removed to assuage your concern regarding commercialization. I agree that wikipedia should not become just a links page.

Question: Does an entire simpit section, with photos belong on the flight sim page when there is a wiki page dedicated to just simulation cockpits? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.1.226.2 (talk) 15:03, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, in general it is a good idea to describe a specific subtopic briefly in the main article (in this case, flight simulation) combined with a link to the article about that subtopic, like it is currently done (many Wikipedia articles do this). Perhaps it could be shortened a bit but it's usually a good idea to discuss the various elements in the main article so the reader knows, after reading the article about flight simulation, what the relevant topics are and the reader can read the more detailed articles if desired. - Simeon87 (talk) 15:09, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Discussing various elements? The thing takes up an eighth of the flight sim page. One sentence and a link would be just right.

Hans Oesterholt (talk) 00:00, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

fitnathemovie.co.uk

I think the url is real, the artwork is exactly the same and wasn't BOL a 17th century dutch painter? Together with the fact that the registration is non-commerical points it to be authentic. Twobells (talk) 16:38, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Of course the artwork is the same, it can easily be copied from the official website. The connection between the UK registrant and Geert Wilders, if any, is quite vague and a last name is used by many people... even if some Dutch painter with the same name lived in the 17th century, it would only vaguely connect that person in the UK to the Netherlands through some person centuries ago. This has no implications for the activities of the painter's ancestors and Geert Wilders' activities. So, quite frankly, this doesn't mean anything. The official .com domain is reliable because it can be shown that it belongs to Geert Wilders. And considering the controversy surrounding this movie, all information should be sourced with reliable sources, not some unofficial website. - Simeon87 (talk) 17:32, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

You were right, seems that the UK site was a anti-wilders hoax, even going as far as suggesting 'muslims' would 'hack' the site when its obvious that the site content was the originating authors.Twobells (talk) 12:32, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

About that "edit"...

About my disruptive edit to SkyTrain (Vancouver) -- that was my idiot brother. He got upset when I was on the computer when he came home for lunch and forced me off of my computer, then proceeded to delete everything so I could be banned from Wikipedia since according to him, "You spend all day on it editing BULLCRAP!".

I deeply and humbly apologize for my edits, and shall sign out of Wikipedia for a while. Daniel Benfield (talk) 19:12, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Feel free to...

I don't know if I can say it in Dutch so let's just do it in English. Feel free to delete the Sophija Kristiansen article. I'll remake them as soon as one or some of her CDs has been released and when there are reviews all over the web I could link to make her notable. She already is pretty much notable in Scandinavia but I do understand your point. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Snakehill (talkcontribs) 17:56, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Game modes

I'm afraid you're using a very restricted definition of UI mode, if you think it only applies to things like the vi input modes.

If we remove what's circumstantial or accessory in your definition and retian the essential, "a modal application (defines) the way the user interacts with the application. Each mode presents which operations can be performed and structure an application as an interface for the functionality available in the program".

See how it applies to game modes: "a game mode defines the way the user interacts with the game. Each mode presents which operations can be performed, and structure the game interface for the functionality available in the game mode". So I'd say that yes, "a way the user plays the game" is indeed a mode by your own definition.

Also you say "the user uses the same controls, the same operations/tools are available yet only the goal varies", but that's not true; there are game modes where the set of tools are restricted (play with limited/unlimited ammo, new weapons available), or the rules are different (altered gravity, win at first touch in a fight game) even with the same goal.

Finally, being able to switch modes on the fly is not an essential characteristic of modes, only that they exist at different points in time in the same program.

Even if you don't agree that one is an instance of the other, I still think the "see also" link is valuable enough to survive: someone interested in how game design uses modes to influence user awareness, probably would also be interested in how UI modes influence user awareness. Poetry International

Hello. Please can you help us to fix the incoming links to Poetry International? I've edited those I'm confident about but there are still plenty of mentions like Ann Ode appeared in Poetry International with no further clues. I suspect that most refer to the American magazine but most of the changes I made were for the Dutch group so it really needs a subject expert. Thanks, Certes (talk) 01:33, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Certes, thanks for your changes in resolving these links to the disambiguation page. I've now updated the links in the article namespace to point to one of the articles. Not always easy to determine but I think most were indeed for the US magazine. I also found that there's a Poetry International event that's part of the London Literature Festival. - Simeon (talk) 14:41, 13 March 2019 (UTC)

@Onel5969: Hi there, nice to meet you! For my understanding, in this case alpine skiing or para-alpine skiing isn't discussed elsehere on Wikipedia:Notability (sports) so are these athletes only notable when competing in Olympic Games or winning a medal at the Paralympic Games? I thought athletes can also be notable when winning medals at other events, (e.g., 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships, Kirk Schornstein) or non-Olympic but notable sports events but if that's not the case then deleting is ok. - Simeon (talk) 15:53, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
Hi there. Since I started reviewing your articles (nice job by the way), I got to the ones on parathletes, and the ONLY parameter right now is if they have medaled at the Paralympics. I've been searching (at the WP:PARALYMPICS, WP:SKI, looking through amateur athlete notability), and I can't find anything other than that already mentioned. That being said, I also remember reading that non-para athletes, who win a medal at the world championships, or continent-level championships (e.g. European championships) are notable, but now I can't find that either. Sometimes WP is a bit disorganized in how you can look things up. I also seem to recall (but am not as certain of it as I am of the World Championship thing) that national champions in a sport are also deemed notable. I want to find that reference to regular athletes competing in world championships, it might mention parathletes there. Will let you know. Onel5969 TT me 16:01, 29 June 2019 (UTC)

@Lefcentreright: Thanks! Yeah, I've created 50 articles about the 2019 African Games by now so I'll keep an eye on it this month :) Cheers, Simeon (talk) 21:28, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

Short description

Hi Simeon. Please can I request that you limit adding the short description info to a few hundred pages per day? It's just that currently my watchlist is flooding with them, making it difficult to trawl through it and spot anything such as vandalism, etc. I'd really appreciate it, but no worries if not. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:16, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

@Lugnuts: Hi there, that is a good point - keeping the pages free of vandalism is more important than the rate at which short descriptions are added. I'll make sure to limit the number of short descriptions to a reasonable number going forwards. - Simeon (talk) 19:25, 5 August 2019 (UTC)

Uganda at the 2019 African Games

Hello Simeon, I was just wondering if it is possible to collaborate with you in terms of adding content to the page mentioned above? AKibombo (talk) 14:42, 22 August 2019 (UTC)AKibombo

@AKibombo: Hi there, yeah that would be good. I've been looking to update many pages related to the 2019 African Games but there are so many events / nations that all help is welcome. You can find any medalists and event results on this website: https://wrs-ag2019g.mev.atos.net/eng/zz/engzz_general-daily-medallists.htm . I'm planning to expand the Uganda at the 2019 African Games page as well as other ones over the next few weeks. - Simeon (talk) 14:51, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Goodday Simeon, I have started abit,I have added some names of representatives in some disciplines as well as the links. How else would you want the page to look so that it's more comprehensive? AKibombo (talk) 09:23, 23 August 2019 (UTC)AKibombo

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to [email protected], so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at [email protected].

Thank you!

An article you recently created, Ice sledge speed racing at the 1988 Winter Paralympics – Women's 1000 metres grade II, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. There seems to be some disagreement about his date of birth, and it might be best to remove if it can't be verified. The first source says he was born in 1960, others 1961 or 1958. At a guess, as 58/60/61 are all close to his age, someone might have confused his age with a year of birth.

DOB for Paralympians

As recently as last year, somewhere on this site https://db.ipc-services.org/ there was a database for all Paralympians past and present with their dates of birth. Unfortunately, the DOB information is no longer available at their current "historical archive": https://db.ipc-services.org/sdms/hira/web/paralympians Surely they haven't deleted all that information from their database! I wonder if there is a way to retrieve the DOB information. I tried archive.org but no luck. Any ideas? Pinging User:SarahTHunter Sinobball (talk) 01:53, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

Hmm, perhaps they stopped exposing it for privacy reasons? I think the easiest thing might be to look at an entries list of a (recent) competition that someone took part in (e.g., https://www.paralympic.org/static/info/resPOAS19/pdf/POAS19/PO/POAS19_PO_C32A_PO0000000.pdf for 2019 World Para Powerlifting Championships). I haven't used that website all that much so far but I'll have a look around to see if there's a way to still get it. - Simeon (talk) 02:08, 17 January 2020 (UTC)

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Shooting at the 2019 Military World Games, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Wang Yang (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hello Simeon, hopefully you are doing well. I understand that your recent edits on the African Para Games are based on the source you mentioned in one of your recent edits, but apparently something is wrong with it.

This article, written by the Egyptian State Information Service on 28 January 2020, confirms that the event was held in Egypt by discussing a lot of stuff about it. Another article here by Youm7 is showing pictures from the opening ceremony which took place on 24 January 2020. On 16 January 2020, Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids FC also announced on its official Twitter account that they've agreed to host the games at their home venue, the 30 June Stadium.

After providing all of this, I'm pretty sure the article written by the International Paralympic Committee is talking about Morocco pulling out from hosting the games, and not the games itself not being held at all. With that being said, I've once again reverted your edits on the article. If you needed help in translating anything from those links from Arabic to English, then feel free to ask me. Thanks. Ben5218 (talk) 09:21, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

@Ben5218: Hi there, thanks for providing these sources! I have been able to use Google Translate to get a sense of what they're saying. I'm not sure they're the African Para Games though, the sources refer to it as the Special Olympics Pan-African Games, so the (1st) African sporting event as organised under the Special Olympics umbrella (e.g., https://www.specialolympics.org/stories/athletes/intense-competition-at-the-first-ever-pan-african-games). The English announcement also refers to it by that name (https://twitter.com/pyramidsfc/status/1221447767098347521). Should this event perhaps be covered in that article? - Simeon (talk) 10:06, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
@Simeon: Hello again. I think maybe we should cover this event in the article, and then split it in the future to two articles when we have enough information; one about the 2020 event and one about the event itself (like Olympic Games and 2020 Summer Olympics for example). At least that's for now, until things become more clearer. Ben5218 (talk) 12:35, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
@Ben5218: So in that case, unless I'm misunderstanding, would you be ok that we change African Para Games to state that the event got cancelled and we move the information about this event to this section here which can now include an African-specific edition of the event? - Simeon (talk) 19:33, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
@Simeon: If you mean like moving the current content of the article to something like Special Olympics World Games#Pan African Games then I'm okay with it. We might also add a WP:HAT at the top of African Para Games to avoid confusions, since the tournament held in Egypt took place in January 2020 and the cancelled even which was set to be held in Morocco was also scheduled to take place in the same month. Short description

Hey there, I was wondering why you replaced the Wikidata description in this edit. It seems to be a better description. Kees08 (Talk) 18:44, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

@Kees08: Hi there, one thing is that it brings the description into WP rather than relying on Wikidata where it may be changed without anyone here noticing. The other thing is that I'm not sure the swimming stroke is necessary to include in the short description as the purpose is to help identify the page on mobile and "country + occupation" does just that. If Wikipedia did have two articles with the title "Pilar Shimizu" then "Guamanian swimmer" and, say, "Ecuadorian fencer" would be sufficient to guide the reader to the intended article. Feel free to include the swimming stroke if you think it's better, I just felt the shortest short description made more sense. - Simeon (talk) 18:51, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

A little help

Hey Simeon, as I saw you're active in the wrestling topic in Wikipedia, I was wondering if you could review my draft of the article Mark Hall, please tell me if you can help me out with that or I can simply upload it. Thank u. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmagrappling (talkcontribs) 20:00, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

@Mmagrappling: Yeah, I'm happy to help out. I think the article is only missing categories but it looks ready to be moved into the main part of Wikipedia. I suggest that you move it there and then we can all work on it there? I don't see a need to keep it in Draft for much longer as it's well-formatted, has references and looks ready to go. - Simeon (talk) 04:08, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
Alright, nice, thanks. I’ll upload it rn. Mmagrappling (talk) 06:15, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Categories

Hey Simeon, hope u r doing well on quarantine times. Can you help me out with the categories? My draft of Zain Retherford is almost done, I just need to add categories, and I have zero idea on how to add them. Thank u bud.

@PabloLikesToWrestle: Hello, I'm fine, I hope you're doing well as well. The thing is that draft pages shouldn't have categories just yet as it'd place the draft page in the categories for real. But you can move the draft to become an article and then add the categories like so: [[Category:Name of the category]]. You'd place these categories at the bottom of the article and it'd look something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaydin_Eierman?action=edit&section=3 - Simeon (talk) 11:28, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
@Simeon: Nice to know you r doing great. Understood, already moved the page and added categories, having problems with the external link to UWW tho. How do I get the ID if I can´t even find the page? Sorry for bothering but I`m very new to creating articles and even newer to wrestler's articles. Thanks. - PabloLikesToWrestle 12:00, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
@PabloLikesToWrestle: Seems good so far. You can find the ID by going to https://unitedworldwrestling.org/database, clicking Athlete and then filling in the wrestler's last name. If you then click on the athlete's name it'll show their profile. If you then right-click on that part of the page and then "View Frame Source" (in Google Chrome) it'll open a new tab and the ID of the wrestler is in that link. If you then copy that and insert it in the Wikidata item under "United World Wrestling ID" it'll be stored there and you can then insert {{sports links}} in the article to make it show up. I have done it for this article here: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q65190654&diff=1154447344&oldid=1154443196 - the ID always looks something like that. I got it from this page here: https://www.iat.uni-leipzig.de/datenbanken/dbwrestling/daten.php?spid=49B47AE5ED8A436C85BA7083B3D0A57A (notice the same ID in the link here). - Simeon (talk) 16:15, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
@Simeon: Thank you m8. Hum, will try to in my next article but idk if I'll be able to make it as I'm on Mac and don't even have Chrome downloaded, will still make the effort. Thank u very much for that, you've been helping me a bunch since I started creating drafts & articles. Stay safe m8. - PabloLikesToWrestle 12:30, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
@PabloLikesToWrestle: On Mac it's the same way, but in Safari you have to right-click and then click on "Open Frame in New Tab". All the other steps are the same. Stay safe as well! - Simeon (talk) 16:32, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Wikidata descriptions for rowing

When importing Wikidata short descriptions for rowing, I suggest that it's helpful to differentiate between rowers and rowing coxes (or coxswains). The latter don't actually do any rowing, but they participate in the sport of rowing. Granted, many Wikidata descriptions are "wrong" (example) but, at least for Olympic participants, the occupation (P106) should be correct. Maybe we need an exercise of checking the Wikidata descriptions against the occupation first before these descriptions get imported into the English Wikipedia. What do you think? Schwede66 03:32, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

@Schwede66: Hi there, I did think about this a while back as it also comes up, in a way, with goalkeepers in football who participate in the sport of football but don't score any goals (at least not under normal circumstances). In that case I'm happy to describe a goalkeeper as a "<country> footballer". There are also other sports with different roles within the game so it really depends on what the short description is intended to be used for. If it's just to guide the reader to the correct article when two pages have the same title then "Ecuadorian fencer" versus "Brazilian rower" is sufficient, event when the latter is a coxswain. I also think the phrase "<country> rower" will be recognised by a wider group of people than "<country> coxswain", especially when navigating Wikipedia without an interest in rowing. So at the moment I'm leaning towards "rower" as perhaps "less is more"? - Simeon (talk) 10:03, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
I certainly concur that “rower” is more recognisable than “coxswain”. For that reason, I mentioned “rowing cox” above. But it’s not of paramount importance. Just checking that you are deliberate about it. Schwede66 10:14, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
@Schwede66: That's a good point, I'm happy to use "rowing cox" from now on as it makes the necessary distinction but also makes it clear that it's someone participating in rowing, even when someone might not know what "cox" refers to. - Simeon (talk) 10:17, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

2020

Great articles. But why do you write that sportspeople are set to represent e.g. Japan at the 2020 Olympics? There won't be a 2020 Olympics. Geschichte (talk) 06:42, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

@Geschichte: Hi there! My understanding is that the event itself will still be marketed / considered / called the "2020 Summer Olympics" or "Tokyo 2020", even though it's now scheduled for 2021. Perhaps there is a better way of expressing this in an athlete's article. - Simeon (talk) 09:15, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello there. This is an invitation to join the 50,000 Destubbing Challenge Focus of the Week. £250 (c. $310) is being given away in May, June and July with £20 worth of prizes to give away every week for most articles destubbed. Each week there is a different region of focus, including one week dedicated to South-South East Asia, though half the prize will still be rewarded for articles on any subject. There's a potential £120 to be won in total for destubbing on any subject or region of your choice. Sign up if you want to contribute at least one of the weeks or support the idea! † Encyclopædius 11:32, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Recently contributed article proposed for deletion

Hi Simeon,

I hope you are well. As a responsible Wikipedian, I would like to notify that I have nominated an article that you recently contributed to, Lee In-sook, for deletion. See the notice below.

Notice

The article Lee In-sook has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not enough reliable sources and/or non-trivial mentions of subject in sources; article has remained a stub for a long time

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Please refer to the notice for my reasons. I am also notifying you because the article creator has since retired from Wikipedia and you are the only still reasonably active user that has recently contributed to the article. Please feel free to leave comment on this talk page, mine, or the article's; I would like some outside input. You may also object to the deletion if you would like.

Thank you! MrSwagger21 (talk) 10:54, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

@MrSwagger21: Hi there, I have removed the deletion notice as competing at the Olympics is sufficient to be notable for an article, see WP:NOLYMPICS. - Simeon (talk) 10:59, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Got it. I am informed about that for the future. Thank you! MrSwagger21 (talk) 11:02, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

@MrSwagger21: Thanks for being a responsible Wikipedian though! I agree it's a short article but there are so many competitors at the Olympics that many articles just have to start this way. - Simeon (talk) 11:10, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Cadet & Junior accomplishments

Hey Simeon, how is it going? While I was updating the article we created of Agustín Destribats, I realized most of his biggest accomplishments were as a cadet or as a junior. Should I put those at the "Major results" or simply not putting em at all? Hope you're staying safe m8.

@PabloLikesToWrestle: Hi there, it's going well here, hope you're well as well. I think it's still worth including his results as cadet / junior. The header "Major results" sort of suggests to the reader that these are senior-level results. It may be worth renaming the header to "Competitive history" or something like that and then dividing it into several areas so that it's clear to the reader what the cadet / junior / senior accomplishments are. I think that's the main guiding principle, as long as it's clear to the reader. - Simeon (talk) 18:40, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
@Simeon: Nice. Sure, thanks for clarifying and resolving that. - PabloLikesToWrestle (talk) 19:08, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

RBY

Hey man, how is it going? I just created RBY's article but idk if his name should be Bravo Young or Bravo-Young. If I name it Roman Bravo-Young will it still appear when ppl search "Roman Bravo Young"? Or should I just leave it like Roman Bravo Young?

Hi there, I think it may be best to use the Page move functionality to move it to "Roman Bravo-Young". That'll also create a redirect from "Roman Bravo Young" to "Roman Bravo-Young" and in that case people will arrive on that page either way. His name seems to be "Roman Bravo-Young" so I think it's better and correct to rename the article to be located under that name. - Simeon (talk) 17:26, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! PabloLikesToWrestle (talk) 06:39, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
