Notability of Stuart Purdy

A tag has been placed on Stuart Purdy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

Citating sources and notability

Let me explain some things that may not be clear to you about how Wikipedia works. Satements made on Wikipedia are supposed to be supported by citations of Reliable sources. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for a discussion of how to do this. Explaining more about how an event happend is not the same as citing a source that confirms that it did happen. When a statement has a "citation needed" tag, then an editor needs to provide a reference to a published source, such as a newspaper account, mention in a book, or a reliable online source (this will generally exclude blogs, myspace pages, and other personal pages) or some other reliable source where a reader can verify that the event did occur as stated in the article.

If the Stuart Purdy article is to be kept, sources for the various statements made in it will need to be cited.

The other issue is notability. Even if every satemetn made in an article is accurate, and citations are provided, Wikipedia generally only has articles about notable topics. For biographical articels, our usual standards for inclusion are laid out in Wikipedia:Notability (people). Note that the key criterion is: "A person is notable if he or she has been the subject of secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject. The depth of coverage of the subject by the source must be considered. If the depth of coverage is not substantial, then multiple independent sources should be cited to establish notability. Trivial, or incidental coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not sufficient to establish notability." Thism is another reason why you ought to cite sources.
