Article [1]

[edit]

Hi Sausa, welcome to Wikipedia! I am assuming you are a brand new editor, but you seem to be doing very well! Thanks for all the work you have done so far. I am not sure where exactly you came across my name and decided to ask me for help, but of course I am ready to try to help you as much as I can. However, I must say that I am not expert on articles which are biographies of living people (BLPs), like this one, as I have only done a few of them over the years. I have never done one on a musician, and I have never taken any BLP up to a high level of excellence. At any rate, for what it's worth, I looked at the article and it does seem fairly good, although Wikipedia demands unusually high standards for BLPs as compared with other kinds of articles. Here are a few things you can do to improve the article:

1. Expand the introduction. You need to indicate up front why exactly this person is notable: you know, mention there that he has won several international prizes, or whatever other items are the most impressive things he has done. Also the intro is supposed to contain a brief summary of what is in the article, and thus it should be a couple of paragraphs long rather than just one sentence.

2. You need to remove any "peacock" words such as: "one of the most significant performers of his generation". If someone has written something like this in a published review, then you can quote that review. If not, then just leave it out. You need to prove this person is very significant by listing all his achievements rather than just stating that he is. That violates the wikipedia guideline Neutral Point of View.

3. The article has a fair number of wikilinks already, but I believe you may possibly be able to wikilink a lot more of the names of the other musicians. Try typing each name into the Wikipedia search slot and see if there is already an article for them. And the famous composer's and performers names can all be wikilinked for sure.

4. All titles of films and musical compositions need to be italicized.

5. You may want to see if you can back up the info in the "Educator" section with a citation.

As for the quality of the references, I have not checked them at all (partly because I am tired this evening and also because as I am not used to writing articles on musicians, so I am not clear as to what would constitute suitable references for this.) As I said, I am not an expert on this kind of piece, so maybe you can ask someone in WikiProject Classical music to take a look at the article? All good wishes to you, Invertzoo (talk) 22:19, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I did just want to say that when you ask someone to help you with a "new" article, it is a good idea to explain up front that the article was put up in the mainspace 2 months ago, but was nominated for speedy deletion and then was placed on a user page in order to be worked on some more. That makes the situation a bit more complicated. Best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 22:27, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for all your suggestions!! Regards! Sausa11 (talk) 23:04, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way i followed your suggestion and put some citation in the "Educator" section. I hope online sources are acceptable? I will think about intro section. Thanks!Sausa11 (talk) 23:32, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I provided some suggestions for improvement of User:Music43lover/Giorgi Latsabidze at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2010 September 17. If you need any help, feel free to ask me on my talk page. If you want to create a footnotes section, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (footnotes)#Separating reference lists and explanatory notes for how to do so. Speedy deletion of Giorgi Latsabidze

[edit]

Hello Sausa11, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created on December 2 2010, Giorgi Latsabidze, has been marked for speedy deletion by User:Ohconfucius (page has mainspace links, and 4 edits). This has been done because the page is a blatant advert that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article (see CSD). If you think the tag was placed in error, please add "{{hangon}}" to the page text, and edit the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. If you have a question about this bot, please ask it at User talk:SDPatrolBot II. If you have a question for the user who tagged the article, see User talk:Ohconfucius. Thanks, - SDPatrolBot II (talk) on behalf of Ohconfucius (talk · contribs) 12:13, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Did what I could. Although a bit flowery, I thought the article was salvageable. Left a note for the reviewing admin to consider whether it fits G11. Dlohcierekim 18:24, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it was at deletion review. Dlohcierekim 18:25, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At deletion review? what do you mean? Do you think I can save this article? I am willing to rewrite it. If you could send a notice to ohconfucius would be great! I just need to know what makes him think it's promotional. I will just remove it. Sausa11 (talk) 18:28, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think you can stop cutting now unless someone else advised otherwise. Much leaner. More encyclopedic. Good job. Dlohcierekim 19:01, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In the notice above. Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2010 September 17 Dlohcierekim 19:02, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much! can you put the same comments on the talk page of the article, so that everyone can see you are supporting? I really want to get it survive. Sausa11 (tlk) 109, ecember 2010

You are very welcome. Just be sure to find as many [WP:RS|reliable 3rd party sources]] as you can. Dlohcierekim 02:36, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dlohcierekim, I will again follow your suggestions, if something needs to be removed I will remove it. I see from the history article got little bit out of shape due to my inattention to it, I was busy. I see some paragraphs has been removed by that French editor who put a deletion tag now, don't know why. If article has problems I believe it can be solved, like you helped me in past. I would deeply appreciate again your help. I trust we can solve the issue here like we did last time. Thanks! Sausa (talk) 19:21, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Labsabidze

[edit]

Just one thing, Did he actually start performing at age 3 in front of an audience or just playing piano at 3... an important distinction? Invertzoo (talk) 23:22, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as far as I know he started playing piano playing at 3 (not in front of audience). I think his first public appearance was when he was 7 years old, but unfortunately I can't get enough evidence to proof it. Thanks! Sausa11 (talk) 23:51, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I changed the article to read that he started playing at 3. Invertzoo (talk) 01:11, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much!Sausa11 (talk) 21:48, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This guy from French wiki has removed the whole section about his childhood and earlier years when he started playing piano. Don't you think it was essential to point that out here? Again, its hard to get a source for that but does it really need it? You did a great job last time, please advice. Sausa (talk) 19:06, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Progress on Latsabidze:

[edit]

According to some editors who have contributed their time in this article, the article is not in a danger to be nominated for a deletion in future! I think the article got much better, leaner and encyclopedic! Thanks to all for supporting and for your time! Regards! Sausa11 (talk) 21:54, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sausa, you have done a fabulous job in salvaging this article and making it quite encyclopedic. You obviously have a much better grasp of what it takes to provide references of the type required by the editors, which I did not understand until more recently, and have been too busy to spend time working further on the article. Bravo to you and the other editors that have worked on this. Music43lover (talk) 01:00, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Music43lover! Please feel free to edit it if you have some new reliable material. Regards! Sausa11 (talk) 02:53, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you use inline citations with the news sources, it should be fine. bibliomaniac15 07:55, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Carol Hogel has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Opinion

[edit]

Hi Sausa11, thanks for your note. I am in the middle of a crisis in RL so I can't really be much help on your article, sorry. Quotes from reviewers are usually good, assuming they come from a reliable source and assuming you make an inline citation to back them up. Best, Invertzoo (talk) 01:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a pattern that he is held in critical acclaim? If so, it may do you good to condense the series of quotes or paraphrase their general meaning. As long as you can reliably cite it, I don't see a problem. bibliomaniac15 05:13, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you both Invertzoo and Bibliomaniac15! Well, according to my research there are few music critics who wrote and reviewed Latsabidze's recitals in Europe. I am afraid if I will cite them all, it's going to raise some issue here on the article. I will try my best to cite it as reliably as possible. Regards, Sausa (talk) 07:36, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, and when you add in the quotes, do try to keep the prose and the quotes themselves short and to the point, and then, assuming the quotes are from reliable sources, it should not seem not objectionable I think. Invertzoo (talk) 18:52, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate that Invertzoo! Sausa (talk) 21:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Elimination of Latsabidze Giorgi biography in French Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello my name is Adolfo, I have 39 years and I studied piano for 30 years, I'm writing from Spain. My teacher was from Georgia and he spoke of his country's best musician Latsabidze Giorgi, I study their records and know well their work and career. First I want to congratulate you for your good article on Latsabidze in the English Wikipedia. I'm writing because I need your help because Latsabidze's biography has been removed from the French Wikipedia, they have told many lies about Latsabidze, they say they have never won the international competition Rubeinstein of Paris, who has never received the scholarship Carol Hogel, who has never recorded an album etc .... As you can see here:http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussion:Giorgi_Latsabidze/Suppression I wrote to administrators to demonstrate the lies they tell: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussion_utilisateur:LPLT (August 12) http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussion_utilisateur:Wikinade (August 15) After demonstrating that they lie, I have requested that the biography is restored in the French Wikipedia as you can see here:http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipédia:Demande_de_restauration_de_page#Giorgi_Latsabidze (August 17) They've given the reasons as you can see and I have proven to be lies. I need your help and the help of the English Wikipedia, I need people to write to show their disagreement with the decision because only tell lies about Giorgi Latsabidze. I can not and I just need people to agree with me that it is written in the French Wikipedia showing their disagreement. Thank you very much for your attention. --Carlitosbull (talk) 20:23, 25 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It appears that you have been canvassing—leaving messages on biased users' talk pages to notify them of an ongoing community decision, debate, or vote. While friendly notices are allowed, they should be limited and nonpartisan in distribution and should reflect a neutral point of view. Please do not post notices which are indiscriminately cross-posted, which espouse a certain point of view or side of a debate, or which are selectively sent only to those who are believed to hold the same opinion as you. Remember to respect Wikipedia's principle of consensus-building by allowing decisions to reflect the prevailing opinion among the community at large. --Koui² (talk) 22:17, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sausa, I don't think that this article is really in real danger of deletion. There's plenty of sources and accomplishments that allow him to be notable. I would suggest, if you'd like to strengthen your case, to clean up the article a bit. Try moving for a more encyclopedic tone; I feel the original poster might have felt that the article may have been a bit promotional. I would recommend asking some folks at Guild of Copyeditors to help you copyedit the article. bibliomaniac15 04:41, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bibliomaniac15, thanks alot! To be honest when I saw the deletion tag i was freaked out, I thought all the time I spent was a wasting of time. But, now I feel better, since you think also that there is "plenty of sources and accomplishments that allow him to be notable". I would really appreciate if you can put your note on deletion page so that others can see your opinion? I will certainly follow your suggestions, if anything needs to be removed just let me know, or maybe you edit it too if you got a bit time? I am not sure which original poster you were referring to but please feel free to take it out, absolutely! Thanks again for great help in advance! Sausa (talk) 14:52, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Sausa, I added some sources to the article as well as did some minor edits. Great work! Regards Christophhhhh (talk) 07:37, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you
