Collaboration[edit]

I noticed your contributions at Talk:Male–female income disparity in the United States and want to welcome your expertise to Wikipedia. However, it takes quite a long time to become used to the way things work here, so I hope you don't mind but I would like to offer some suggestions. One trivial issue is that it is usually best to not bother replying to old points made on a talk page (I'm thinking of this). Also, FYI, that particular user is indefinitely banned (see Special:Contributions/Grundle2600). We don't reply to old points because essentially Wikipedia is not a forum – talk pages are for collaboration in building the encyclopedia, and are not a place to right wrongs. The essential point about this is that we should always be civil. See WP:CIVIL which spells out that civility is not an optional extra, but is a requirement for participation here. Please address other users rarely, but when you do, use their user name without any descriptors. Working here is very different from almost everywhere else on the Internet: stick to discussing the issues (what text should be in the article), and never discuss other editors. See WP:5P for an overview of the policies. Discussion on a talk page should focus on verifiability and neutral point of view plus other policy-based points.
