Conflict of interest

[edit]

Hello, Sam! I see that you have restored information to the article CSI College of Engineering that I had deleted. I want to explain why I deleted it. Both the "quality policy" section and the "success stories" section are what we call WP:PUFFERY - purely promotional material which is intended to make the subject look good but is not suitable for an encyclopedia. Copying an entire paragraph from the college website (which by the way should have been enclosed in quotes) is not information about the college; it is promotional, "look how great we are" material. A list of companies that may or may not have hired graduates of the college also doesn't belong in an encyclopedia. It is trivial, since all college graduates eventually get a job somewhere. Look at other college articles, and you will see that the only way they point out the accomplishments of their graduates is through a "notable alumni" section, which lists graduates whose accomplishments are so great that they have Wikipedia articles of their own.

There is a second problem: You have a conflict of interest in posting here. Your user page, and your record of contributions, make it clear that your purpose at Wikipedia is to make the college look good - "working hard to give a good shape to our college wiki page". That is contrary to the letter and the spirit of Wikipedia editing. Please read the conflict of interest page I linked to, and restrict your future contributions to information that is neutral (not promotional) and of encyclopedic value. This could include things like: degrees offered; the size of the student body and faculty; a brief description of the buildings or campus; or a brief summary of the school's history.

I am going to delete those two sections again, and I ask you not to restore them. Thanks for your loyalty to your school and your interest in Wikipedia. I hope you now understand how to edit here so that those two aims are not in conflict. --MelanieN (talk) 15:24, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sam, I warned you before about your conflict of interest in editing the page CSI College of Engineering. You state plainly on your user page that your goal at Wikipedia is to make this subject (your employer) look good. That is not an acceptable use of Wikipedia, as I explained before. But you are still reverting everyone else's changes, so as to maintain your preferred version of the article. Recently I made several necessary changes to the article - removing WP:PUFFERY, removing redundancy (where the same fact was repeated two or three times), and removing material that was copy-pasted from another site in violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. You reverted to your own previous version without comment or explanation.

I am going to restore those changes, which are necessary according to Wikipedia policy. And I urge you to read WP:OWN so that you will understand you do not "own" this article. Other people can and will edit it. If you revert again, or if you continue to push your conflict of interest at this subject, you could be blocked from editing. --MelanieN (talk) 13:42, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:CSI College Campus View.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
