Pennsylvania State Parks
It looks like I am the first to talk on your new talk page. Thankfully the bad weather has passed us and Nathalie's family by. Thanks again for the thoughts. I created Salt Springs State Park this afternoon. It was a big project. It seems to be a wonderful place. I would really like to visit it someday. If you have time it will probably need a good bit of copy edit. I had lots of info to condense. Have a good one. I am done for the night. Dincher 22:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
I am pretty sure you are right about Salt Springs State Park not being the only one not run by PA-DCNR. I completey forgot about the "Hiawatha Parking Lot". The Friends of Salt Springs Park website made the claim and I just passed it along. I will make the change now. I will call my parents about the flooding in PA. I hope it isn't too bad. We are headed up there for Turkey Day. I hope to get some pictures of Milton State Park. Dincher 15:49, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
I created S. B. Elliott State Park this afternoon. We are finally getting busy at Penney's. Dincher 19:31, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
I created Parker Dam State Park too. I am going to take a look at White Deer Hole Creek right now. Dincher 22:33, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Ryerson Station State Park is up and running. I feel like it needs more info about the fort and dispute of the Virginia and PA claims on the land. Do you have much of this info. I know that you've fixed some of my Indian references in the past. This one may need to be fixed too. I don't know what specific tribes were in the area and leading raids that lead to the building of the fort. By the way my wife is Tuscarora they didn't all leave NC! Dincher 02:57, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Elkland
I have noticed that the Demographics for Elkland have to be way way off. Elkland is not big but there are way more than 7 people or whatever it says now. Dincher 18:57, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Native Americans
Does she speak any Iroquoian languages? To answer you question, no she doesn't but she is interested in learning. The problem is that very few people speak the Tuscarora language and most of them are in New York or Canada. Her ethnicity is very interesting. She is from Robeson County, North Carolina. This county has a very high population of people who identify themselves as Lumbee. She is adamant that she is not Lumbee. If you read the article you might understand why. The history of the Native Americans in North Carolina is pretty sad. Most people don't realize that many of them never left. Before I moved here I had no idea there was a significant population of Indians anywhere on the east coast. Dincher 01:36, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
More State Parks
Created four more today. Little Buffalo State Park, Ralph Stover State Park, R. B. Winter State Park, and McCalls Dam State Park. We are driving through the night tonight to PA. Hopefully we'll get some pictures at Milton and my parents have been travelling around Tioga and Potter County get photos from those parts. Dincher 01:36, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
I just created Prompton State Park and Lackawanna State Park. I looked at the map for White Deer Hole Creek. The colors for the lines are confusing. The blue and I think it's grey run together. I suggested orange for the county lines. Otherwise the article is great. We passed over White Deer Hole Creek twice on our journey. I am back in Fayetteville and back to work a Penney's. Black Friday has finally let up! Dincher
It's been a long and slow day at Penney's. I completed 4 more today. 2 expanded. Kettle Creek State Park and Sinnemahoning State Park. 2 new ones Marsh Creek State Park and Frances Slocum State Park. I wonder how much longer until they are all done? Dincher 00:48, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
I know what you mean about being worried about dropping the camera in the river. If I took our camera out and dropped it in the water, my wife would kill me! The store is closing in ten minutes!! Woo-hoo! I thought about a picture from the bridge too. There is a walway over the bridge it should be pretty safe. Thanks for the help. Dincher 01:53, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
I created Pine Grove Furnace State Park tonight. That will be it for me tonight. I read your article Pennsylvania Route 554. I had a severe accident on that road when I was in college. I was speeding up the south side of Bald Eagle Mountain, didn't make the turn at the top and woke up in Danville at Geisinger. It is a great road to drive, lots of fun fun turns. I have learned to slow it down. Dincher 01:44, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Holy crap! I just created Laurel Hill State Park, hit the wrong button and lost it! I did get Laurel Summit State Park and Laurel Mountain State Park finished. They were short and easy. I put lots of work into Laurel Hill State Park and now its gone. I will try to get back to it on the weekend. I feel like I just wasted a lot of my time. Aggravated as heck. Dincher 02:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- I already tried that. It happens on the computers here at Penney's. I usually stop and save, but for some reason it slipped my mind and I didn't tonight. I had been working steady on it for and hour! Dincher 02:58, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
What's up Fisch? I recreated Laurel Hill State Park tonight. I am off work this weekend! I will be busy painting our bathroom and putting a cap on the chimney. It will be nice to be home. Have a good one! Dincher 01:41, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
White Deer Hole Creek
About 15 years ago. The Williamsport Sun-Gazette ran either an article or a series of articles about "Alvira" and the Ordnance. I don't know if it will contribute to the White Deer Hole Creek article or not and they might be hard to find too, but they were very interesting, including interviews with people who actually had lived in Alvira. You could probably find them on microfilm at the James V. Brown Library in Williamsport. Dincher 02:58, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
Regarding, White Deer Hole Creek - the colors show up much better on the large map than on the small map for the new version that is. The picture of the valley is a plus. It gives a picture of the size and beauty of the valley and shows the restoration of the forests. I expanded Varden Conservation Area today. I will get to Boyd Big Tree Preserve Conservation Area soon. We did not stop at Milton State Park. I thought that it was too grey and dreary on Wednesday and Friday to stop and take pictures, but the pictures that my parents took at Lyman Run State Park and Hills Creek State Park were also taken on grey days and they look pretty good. I guess I missed a chance. Oh well the park isn't going anywhere. Dincher 20:07, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
The map looks a lot better on my computer at home. Perhaps the monitor at work isn't set up quite right. I think that a picture taken from a kayak in the river would be a very good picture of the Milton State Park. This is a picture I just wouldn't be able to take. I probably won't be back in PA until the summer. I will also put my parents to work on other state parks. They like going to them. Dincher 05:25, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I am gonna look at your updates on White Deer Hole Creek in a moment. I just finished Laurel Ridge State Park. The "Laurels" are done. My wife says that I have OCD. I think maybe she is right. I am starting to have dreams about Wikipedia! Dincher 18:08, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
The topographic/3D map is another plus. Did you add one to Larrys Creek? This would also be a good map for the West Branch Valley article to show the difference between the ridges to the south and the dessicated plateaus to the north. Dincher 18:18, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Congrats! You deserve it and worked hard to get it! Does this mean it is a canidate to be the main article on the main page now? Dincher 03:02, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
You're right about Buchanans' birthplace. I will fix it. I thought of you when I was writing up the the Blue Knob State Park. Bobs Creek flows throught it. Kind of a funny name. Who is Bob? Just a weird name like Larrys Creek. Makes me wonder if there is a Georges Creek or Walts Creek. Have fun with your projects. I am looking forward to learning more about the creeks in my home county. [1] follow the link to an article about the building of a Target distribution center in the White Deer Hole Creek area. Dincher 13:31, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- Mosquito Creek (Pennsylvania) do you know this creek? I know the Mosquito Creek that flows through Mosquito Valley and empties into the West Branch in Duboistown? Dincher 13:35, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for everything. I am making the changes now. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:44, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Bald Eagle Mountain
Thanks for the clean up on Bald Eagle Mountain and all the wikilinks. Have a look at Bald Eagle Valley and Nittany Valley, and please add any interesting content you may have. You may also want to check the older article on Mount Nittany as well. Dhaluza 15:48, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
60 miles is the approximate straight line distance along Bald Eagle Mountain. After that it becomes Brush Mountain which still needs an article. I would suggest that the information on the communities belongs in the article for the valley, with a link from the mountain page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhaluza (talk • contribs) 17:05, 28 November 2006
Yes, so much to do. I usually upload the picture, then write the caption, so I know that leaves the picture page blank. I should go back and clean up by cutting and pasting the captions back, but in the mean time, there is always "what links here". I'm not sure what to do about the other Bald Eagle Creek, but I was planning to just add it to the main article, rather than make another, because what would you call it? I think that means we need to expand the BEV article south as well. By all means, expand the BEMt article. My only point was that if you describe the socio-political aspects, that should go in the valley article, because almost nobody lives on the mountain. I added some to the WBSV article, and could use some help with it too.
Don't forget to subst: templates!
Hi,
When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.
Thanks! :)

Sheshequin Path
I read some of the Sheshequin Path tonight and found a possible mistake in your spelling of Shikellamy. You spelled it with a "ck" I have never seen it spelled that way. Is it a mistake or a spelling variance? Dincher 04:03, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Shickellamy, Shikellamy either way is pretty hard to type and spell without messing it up. I expanded Linn Run State Park tonight. That will be all for the evening. I hope Sheshequin Path makes DYK. Good luck! Dincher 01:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Hello again Ruhrfisch - haven't crossed paths since Janx Jrotum vandalised all the Pennsylvania articles. Great work on Pennsylvania as usual. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:56, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
- Congratulations on the FA too. You should have asked me for a vote! Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:16, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Request
Dear Ruhrfisch,
I am writing to you because I wanted to solicit your opinion. I nominated the Ohio Wesleyan University article not too long ago and am looking for help with copyedit for the article. Do you know of any Wikipedia editors who will be willing to help out? Thank you for your time! WikiprojectOWU 00:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Thank you
Dear Ruhrfisch,
Thank you so much for the quick response! I really greatly appreciate your willingness to help! I have been trying to work with a few people to improve the article and so any help goes a long way! My thinking was that two areas might warrant more immediate attention: (1) Tightening up the article, and (2) POV language.
Thank you again! I very much appreciate your help! WikiprojectOWU 07:30, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
"In 1787, Caleb Farley settled on White Deer Hole Creek with his family (including his four year old son John), and built a mill on the creek by 1789."
- You usually "settle in" an area. Besides, should you call it by name if Caleb is supposed to be second possible source of the name as suggested in the first paragraph of the section? Also, I can't quite imagine a mill built on a creek. They float like a bunch of rocks :) Could you clarify how this paragraph about Caleb links to the previous one?
Also, perhaps you should say "two etymologies have been suggested" instead of "are given". - Mgm|(talk) 11:08, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- "Settled on" may be proper usage, but for me (non-American) it was confusing so I pointed it out. The connection between the two etymologies should be purely grammatical. You say there's two of them, but you didn't actually state that the story about Caleb is the second one. I'll read the article again tomorrow and see if I can support its FAC nomination. - Mgm|(talk) 21:54, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, if you feel our conversation is important/relevant enough to the article, then go ahead and copy it over. - Mgm|(talk) 00:11, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Re:
Thanks again! I will contact the user regarding help with POV bias. Hopefully, he/she will be able to devote some time. So, that leaves redudancy and tightening up the article as two key areas that we might need some help with. Thank you so much for agreeing to put some time into it! It will really make a difference in improving the article! :-) WikiprojectOWU 19:28, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you! Big time! WikiprojectOWU 20:05, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your cons about Demosthenes's appearance in the main page.--Yannismarou 07:37, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Warriors Path and Whipple Dam
I expanded Warriors Path State Park which might cause confusion with Warrior's Path State Park in Tennessee and Whipple Dam State Park tonight. I see you have been kept busy with White Deer Hole Creek. It looks really good. I hope it makes FA, but I don't know if I would want to do all that work to make an article FA. Doesn't seem like fun. Dincher 02:23, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for making the stub. I have a question about the IUCN Categories. Do all the state parks really have this label? I am not all that sure what an IUCN is. Dincher 16:37, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- That IUCN page is about as clear as mud, the wiki and the web page. I am not going to worry about it for now, I will continue, to keep the map the same, but I am not going to worry about the IUCN tag. Things are actually busy at Penney's so my work is slowing down on wiki for now. I will be working on Worlds End State Park tonight. Buenos Dios Dincher
Just expanded White Clay Creek Preserve this will probably cause confusion with White Clay Creek State Park in Delaware. Do you have plans to try to create another FA article? Dincher 22:54, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
I finished expanding Worlds End State Park. I also made redirects for Whirls End State Park and Whirls Glen State Park. I always thought that it was Whirls Glen until I actually noticed the signs. My Dad still calls it Whirls Glen. Perhaps this could make a DYK? Did you know.... that the official name of Worlds End State Park in Pennsylvania was not "officially" resolved until 1943? It had been known and is still called by some as Whirls Glen State Park or Whirls End State Park? I am not happy with the phrasing of the question perhaps you could tweak it? Adios amigo Dincher 02:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Worlds End State Park has been submitted to DYK. Puns are fun. I had thought of a pun to place at the end of my last message to you, but decided not to and now I have forgotten it. I am working until 11:00 tonight, then I gotta go to little monsterville at 7:30 in the morning! I will be doing this two nights in a row. Thankfully Christmas break starts on Monday! I didn't look but I had figured that you were responsible for the Loyalsock Trail blaze. I was surprised that there was a page for it, when I saw it I guessed it was started or worked on by you. That's fine, you are helping us anyway. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I'm looking forward to your edits and comments. WikiprojectOWU 04:30, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Looks like I'm the first to congratulate you ...
White Deer Hole Creek has gotten the gold star. As I said, it couldn't have happened to a better article.
Now let's get it on the Main Page. Daniel Case 05:24, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- I see your point. (CTTOI, Larrys Creek has been in the pipeline for some time already ... why not wait until after it runs, because they'd want to wait anyway.)
- And, if it waits, you can get those other two photos. Plus it'll be nice to have that lush green photo on the main page in warmer weather. Daniel Case 18:50, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Supplementing this
You know, for a chemist you write damn good geography articles (and coming from someone with an undergraduate degree in the subject from one of the better departments in the country, I'd like to think that should mean something). You've given me an example to follow for Shawangunk Kill (a similar backwater close to where I live, a tributary of the Wallkill which is in turn a tributary of the Rondout which finally drains into the Hudson).
I'd also like to say that your work on White Deer Hole Creek (and, just to add, that name alone is almost cool enough to justify featured status) has inspired me to, sometime soon, start getting serious about upgrading the article about Slide Mountain (the highest peak in the Catskills) for GA, peer review and a run at featured status.
BTW, speaking of that and looking at the other WikiProjects you're part of, have you considered working on mountain and lake articles for those WikiProjects? I think, based on what you've done with WHDC and Larrys Creek, you could bring the same touch to those subjects. Daniel Case 16:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually, there's an even better thing to do

Return of the prodigal
Hello again! Sorry I've been unresponsive for so long. I've been busy in lab and whatnot and have mostly been doing medieval peerage stuff, which is sufficiently rote so as not to require much mental overhead. Congratulations on White Deer Hole Creek. The depth and texture of these creek articles you write absolutely amazes me. I agree with the commenters above: this ought to be a front-page article. (I just double-checked the railroad info, BTW, and it's fine.) I'm sorry I was too late to get my oar in on FAC, but it seems it didn't need it. :) And thank you for those nice historical maps; have you seen http://www.pennpilot.psu.edu yet?
Went gallivanting over the back roads of SoLanCo over Thanksgiving — very back roads. River Road along the Tucquan Creek looks like it must flood anytime more than a quarter-inch of rain comes down. Anyway, got pictures of the high bridge at Martic Forge, which rumor has it is slated for demolition, then parked at the put-in below Safe Harbor dam and took in the high bridge there as well. Lock 6 of the Conestoga Navigation is still in relatively good, if dry, condition nearby. Ranged up through Columbia in time to see a local come down the Columbia Branch from Lancaster hauling steel plate from Mittal Steel in Coatesville, drove past the last remaining structure from Chickies #2 Furnace, and saw the sprawling, mostly-derelict mill complex at Steelton before heading home. Nice industrial-heritage-of-the-Susquehanna tour; must work on Samuel Stehman Haldeman sometime, as his family were owners of several of the Chickies furnaces. I haven't done much Pennsylvania lately, aside from Path Valley Railroad and the half-completed Tuscarora Valley Railroad, plus some work in my userspace. I need to start intercalating railroads into User:Dhaluza's nice mountain and valley articles, though. Anyway, good to touch base again, and all the best to you and your family. Choess 05:17, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Susquehannock
I expanded Mount Pisgah State Park tonight and had more time to kill but not time to get in depth on expanded another article so I added some more info to Susquehannock State Park as well. This will probably need some copy edits. I am not happy with how I wrote the paragraph about the Susquehannock. Thanks for the copy edits on Worlds End and the photo too. Don't look for much work from me until Tuesday. Got a busy weekend ahead of me. Leaf raking, bathroom painting, chimney cap installing, going to a wedding way out of town, hopefully getting some sleep and being thankful to be away from the wee ones (little monsters) until January! Dincher 03:46, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
I went ahead and submitted Cowans Gap State Park for DYK. Maybe I'll get lucky again. I hope your travels are safe. I love that T-Shirt. Not very many people get it. Dincher 05:24, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Just did a quick copy edit on Cowans Gap State Park. Might need more if you can. Like significant digits my high school chem and physics teachers went nuts trying to teach us about sig digs. Dincher 05:40, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- I woke up this morning to find Cowans Gap State Park on the DYK page! Thanks. The last thing I did last night before going to bet was to nominate it. First thing I saw when I woke up was that it was accepted. That's quick turnaround. Gotta go to work at Penney's soon. Dincher 14:48, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Paulins Kill FA candidacy
I just nominated Paulins Kill for Featured Article status. Located here: Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates#Nominations —ExplorerCDT 03:32, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thinking about if the PK article becomes an FA and then the GA template gets taken away....there should be a template that says..."This article was once a good article, but it's been promoted to featured article". —ExplorerCDT 03:44, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- RE: COMMENTS ON MY TALK PAGE: Added notice to WikiProjs Rivers and NJ. Forgot to do that, thanks for reminding me. Fixed TOC and Ref size. I like the emboldening of the tributary names as I find quotation marks used for emphasize to be distracting. Quotations marks are used for quotations, not for rhetorical notice. Latin names cut out, just don't know how to cut down on it being too listy. I could move the agriculture stuff, but where? It doesn't totally fit in with the discussion of farming in the history section. As for the trees, there wasn't forestry as an industry, just incidental plundering of the stock to build houses, barns, firewood. I refrained from listing the parks because none of the parks actually sits on the Paulins Kill. Feel free to weigh in whenever you want. —ExplorerCDT 17:46, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
- I can't see anyway of adding to the lead. What would you recommend? —ExplorerCDT 18:19, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- I added some to the lead, leaving out a lines about popular culture and etymology. The latter is too odd and disparate to bring into the intro, and the former is just an afterthought to begin with. Has to be some excuse for people to read the article, not just glance over the intro. —ExplorerCDT 18:54, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for that suggestion, will definitely do that in the next few moments. —ExplorerCDT 01:51, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
It works. I couldn't wrap my head around it, so I deleted it (the third option). Thankfully you knew what you were doing. —ExplorerCDT 02:47, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Glad you like it - I already saw Nichalp's message so I left a notice at his(?) talk page. I also just eliminated repetitive names (woodpecker, owl) in a series which makes birds shorter and less list-y. There are probably some inconsistencies between my style and yours - not sure I did all the dates accessed as you did - are you British by chance? I also added some refs on the protected areas and general refs for the animals and hunting. Feel free to supplement or change these too. If you are happy with it and Nichalp is too, you might want to say on the FAC page and the editors' talk pages that you now believe that all issues have been addressed and could they look at it again. Ruhrfisch 03:17, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Not british, just a new yorker who likes british spellings and european ways of doing things (dates, crossing 7s, etc.). I'm happy with it, so there won't be any changes that I can see right now. I'm just about to take a 1050 mile road trip to florida, so it might take a day or two before i respond next...but...how long does the fa candidacy take usually? why so few people chiming in? —ExplorerCDT 03:34, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- You have an uncanny way of deflating a stand on principle. —ExplorerCDT 17:38, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
Worlds End
Thank you for adding and having the picture to add the the Worlds End State Park article. It was good to see it included on DYK today. Well I am off school for three weeks and my two biggest projects are already completed. The chimney cap is on and the bathroom is finally finished. Looks like I'll have time for more state parks on wikiwonka. Dincher 13:59, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
- Lots of people have been visiting Worlds End State Park today. I see you reverted some nonsense. I expanded Blue Knob State Park and Kooser State Park today. That should be it for me. Have a good evening. Dincher 21:37, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
Back at work tonight. Earlier today I expanded Bald Eagle State Park and I just finished expanding Buchanan's Birthplace State Park. What's your new project on wiki?Dincher 02:49, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
I expanded Caledonia State Park and Chapman State Park today. I think that Chapman has a possibility for DYK with the Jean Stapleton connection. Perhaps, DYK...that actress Jean Stapleton famous for her role at Edith Bunker on the 70's Tv classic All in the Family performed regularly with summer stock theater at Caledonia State Park in Pennsylvania. What do you think? Dincher 03:06, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- I am gonna go with the second tweak. Thanks I thought that mentioning the park earlier would be better. I've looked at Paulins Kill a few times. It looks pretty good to me. Loads and loads of details. Dincher 03:37, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the fixes on Caledonia. I hope it makes DYK someone with a sense of humor should appreciate it. Edith Bunker is one of the funniest characters on TV ever and the fact that she has a connection to a state park in PA just tickles my funny bone. Expanded Clear Creek State Park today. I think that I will be going in ABC order to expand this rest. Is there somebody working steadily on the State Roads in PA. I think Pennsylvania Route 233 would be a good one. Something 4 or 5 state parks are on it. Dincher 05:18, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
duplicate wikilinks
Actually, I had tried to do that before. Unfortunately, it didn't work (it caused my browser to crash), so I had removed it. Now that I learned a lot about JavaScript (ironically, mostly by writing the PR script), I think I might be able to figure it out. AZ t 02:29, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Ruhrfisch/monobook.js&oldid=95352908 - the error would be the last line (Retrieved from…), which I think you inadvertantly copied. {{js}} will do the same thing as all of that 'winc' stuff (eg,
{{subst:js|something.js}}
). - By the way, I'm considering adding a whole collection of scripts that do automated MoS fixes together (Bobblewik's, User:Gimmetrow/replace.js, etc.) onto the PR script, and adding a button which would fix everything in one click. Sound good? AZ t 00:27, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, it's done – several scripts are now included; there's a new button now (after opening up the suggests.) that automatically does both of Bobblewik's scripts at once as well as some other stuff. I'm going to be on vacation for the next week, but when I return I'll try working on the duplicate link problem. Thanks, AZ t 02:07, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Paulins Kill Map featured picture question
On the talk page for Paulins Kill, you mentioned there was a nomination for the map done by User:JimIrwin. I can't seem to find that archived? —ExplorerCDT 22:03, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Edith Bunker
I won't be surprised at all if somebody deletes the picture of Edith from the Caledonia State Park article. Wikipedia isn't the most humorous place on the internet that is for sure. Writing the articles about State Highways doesn't interest me too much either. I was just wondering if you knew off hand of somebody who does them regularly. I will look into it now. Merry Christmas my friend. Dincher 16:39, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- I bet you never thought that you and Edith Bunker would be mentioned in the same sentence? It looks like her picture just might stay up there. Merry Christmas again. I am off to the inlaws! Dincher 21:29, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- I looked for info on the history of Allegheny Islands State Park and didn't find anything. Had you? I think all the state parks are now categorized by county. I checked most of them over the last couple of days. Merry Christmas I probably will be off wikipedia for a few days. Dincher 16:33, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
I made a few tiny changes to Allegheny Islands State Park and will look at it again in a few. I have recently expanded Clear Creek State Park, Cowans Gap State Park, that one was pretty interesting and Evansburg State Park. I hope your holidays have been Merry! Dincher 23:04, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
Expanded Gouldsboro State Park tonight. I ran into some info about Steamtown, USA. That I hope you can confirm or fix. Apparently Steamtown runs or has run a line that passes Gouldsboro State Park. Will you look into it? Have a Happy New Year! Dincher 01:53, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Tristate Observer Question
Hi, I am not sure where to put this, as I am new to all this. I did not see an edit button on my talk page. We are a newspaper in Pike county, pa and I see some outside groups with links and I do feel what we cover is very important. Our moto is "News You Should Know" I would like our paper to appear as a resource for folks looking into Pike and the towns herein. If y ou don't mind I would appreciate a responce on my talk page. Thank you for your consideration. User:Pikeweatherman of Tristateobsever.com (03:44, 23 December 2006)
As a news site, we cover many articles, not just pike county, but as you said, we have State, National, and World news, besides local. Maybe we should be listed in all those catagories?? Since you must follow your rules and not list business nor news resources I will help you by placing important infractions here on your page.
In order to follow your rules, as you remove my news resource, please also remove the Pike Chamber of Commerce, hence the word Commerce, meaning business, meaning business development. Also, please visit Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania and remove most of the COTA info under happenings as these are direct links to businesses or artists trying to sell their art, hence business. I will keep you informed as I find more business links.
Johnny Appleseed
I removed the commercial link from this page which I see you have reverted. There is no unique detailed information as this reference refers to. Only a commercial page selling apple trees. My thoughts are a better non-commercial reference should be found for this article and this one removed. What you reverted only supports other come to wikipedia and spamming with commercial links. Seasoned editors should be setting an example here. 66.38.39.28 13:40, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
Paulins Kill FA Candidacy
Three Four Questions:
- How much longer will this process take?
- Why haven't the people who added a "comment" come back to vote? (I will remind them again)
- Why haven't more people said support or oppose?
- Will it pass with only 3 supports, no opposes, and two comments addressed by us?
Thanks again for all your help. What's your next GA/FA candidate? Mine is Joyce Kilmer with which I'm about 80% done. If you could take a look-see at it, offer your feedback, I'd be much obliged. —ExplorerCDT 00:35, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Auto peer review
Hi. This seems to have stopped working. Any idea why? Ben MacDui (Talk) 14:32, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
I tried by-passing the cache, quitting Safari, and reloading the template to the monobook, but no joy. The 'peer review' button still appears at the right of the edit page, but clicking on it does not seem to achieve anything. Andy is on a wiki-break. I used it twice a few weeks ago, but not since. Am I missing a step out somewhere? Thanks for offering to do it. I am after one for Flannan Isles which could be pasted here - but no worries if you can't find the time. Ben MacDui (Talk) 17:23, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks one again, both for the review and the copy edit. I copied your monobook and tried a few more pages at random. Morvern, Black Isle & Aušra worked, but Staffa and Mull did not. Most curious. Can you tell me what the Interiot tool is for? Thanks also for the further offer of help. I'll get back to you if it is not working next time I need it. Ben MacDui (Talk) 15:09, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Ta. I'll contact Andy Z. All the best for 2007. Ben MacDui (Talk) 11:04, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Steamtown
If you have time will you make the fix for Steamtown on the Gouldsboro article and the Tobyhanna article. I gotta run for the night. If not I'll get it tomorrow.Dincher 02:49, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting that. Tobyhanna State Park is pretty quirky. It needs lots of work. Some of the other state park articles need some TLC too. It will keep me busy for quite awhile. Dincher 05:10, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Featured List?
I just expanded Delaware Canal State Park. It was pretty interesting. Well the New Year is here. Seems to be a lot like last year! Dincher 01:36, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- I submitted it to DYK. Is there such thing a "Featured Lists" on wikipedia? Do you think that once the PA state park articles are completed that they could be a featured list? Dincher 05:14, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- I looked at this list List of areas in the National Park System of the United States. It seems to be most like the List of Pennsylvania State Parks, Towns of Alberta is more like it in size. Next I briefly skimmed over some of the included articles. Some are pretty brief and others are more detailed. So I guess we don't really have to worry about all the articles being complete. I agree that county and size should be included. I can think of nothing else important or all inclusive. I had thought about "year established" but the year establised on some of them is pretty iffy. I think that the introductory paragraph needs to be dressed up and that we should included a map of PA with all the state parks plotted and labeled on it. What do you think? Dincher 14:08, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- The map for the National Parks links to the article for each park. I have no idea how to make it but it is really cool. The map for Alberta seems to be too busy. I like the dots with the links best. I think we should use it if we can make it. The sortable table is pretty cool too. Dincher 21:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- The PA State Parks map looks pretty cool so far. What are we going to do about the parks that don't really fit under a dot? Maybe we'll just have to adjust and make'em a dot. I am glad you like working with the high speed tools. For now I am going to continue to work on getting the articles knocked out. I really don't have far to go. I am working on Greenwood Furnace State Park right now. It's another amazing story of nature coming back from the apparent "destruction of man." Dincher 06:01, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I see that you're working hard on the PA state parks map. Keep up the good work. I was going to do some more work, but I just don't feel like it now. I did finish Greenwood Furnace State Park today and put some finishing touches on Hillman State Park. It is largely undeveloped, basically a glorified state game land. Dincher 21:24, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that you have had to move a lot of the locator dots on the PA state park articles. Do you have a better way of precisely locating the dot? I've just been eyeballing them in. Dincher 23:53, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
I was thinking about making a bigger map with smaller dots for this project of ours. I am glad you did it. Thanks for answering the dot question. You sure bit off a big project, but I think it is going to be worth it. I expanded three parks today, lets see if I can remember them, I just did Jennings Environmental Education Center and Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center. The other one is, now I have to think about it, I could look but that would be cheating, Erie Bluffs State Park that took awhile. It has been a busy day. Bill Cowher resigned from the Pittsburgh Steelers and my wife applied to Fayetteville State University. That was a nice surprise! And I got called into work, which is good for wikipedia, otherwise I would be firmly planted in my Lazy-Boy Anyway have fun with the dots! I might apply for the opening in Pittsburgh!=) Dincher 01:55, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
There is no doubt that the Penn State job is better, but I think that Joe Paterno must be immortal. So I am going to have to stick with the Steelers. I will find time for wikipedia. I can do it on the weeks we play the Cleveland Browns. I added maps for Memorial Lake State Park and McConnells Mill State Park. That should help a little. Dincher 04:44, 6 January 2007 (UTC) My wife thinks this stuff is really nerdy!
- I just expanded Tuscarora State Park and added an info box to Locust Lake State Park which was already pretty much done. Dincher 16:33, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- So you are busy adjusting locator dots again. JoePa was actually offered the Steelers job in 1969 before Chuck Noll took the job. If anybody can coach both teams. It's gotta be JoePa he's the original Blue Power Ranger. Dincher 05:13, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
I added a couple more maps, Point and Presque Isle. What do you think should be done about Pymatuning State Park? Right now one article is written for both parks. Dincher 23:15, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Replying to your last message? What kind of reference do you mean? I agree with the county or counties. I haven't found the area for all of them, not even on PADCNR's page. This will take additional research. Streams and lakes is good too. I am just not sure what kind of reference you mean. Do you mean a little blurb about each park or a reference to an external source? Yes, the map does look rather ill. I have never seen measles. I was think about chicken pox! Well I am back at school. This kids will be here tomorrow! Dincher 12:12, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the medal! That one is pretty cool. I played around some on your frog page. I like the system so far. The refs, are a good idea, shouldn't be any questions about the accuracy of our work. I think we should add the year. It gives us a historical context to go along with the geography already included. Dincher 23:07, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
I was thinking that the map should be added when it is done. No need to wait. Then add the sortable list when it is ready. Yeah we should wait until we have all the info we can find on our own before we ask questions. I have been working on Prince Gallitzin State Park tonight, but it's time to stop, eat some leftovers and watch football. Gallitzin sounds like a possible DYK when I finish it, hopefully tomorow. Thats all for now. Have fun! Dincher 00:50, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Yet more state parks and a lake monster
I finished up Prince Gallitzin State Park and expanded Shawnee State Park tonight. The original article about Shawnee includes a reference to "Shawn" the lake monster. I did a bit of research on it and didn't find anything although I did find some really cool pictures of the "Haunted" Lake Shawnee amusement park in West Virginia, see them here [2]. I don't want to delete the ref to the lake monster, but can't supoort it. I guess I will go some more research on it. Remember you can't hunt groundhogs in PA state parks. Just in case you are tempted. Dincher 00:58, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
I see that Paulins Kill made featured article. Congrats. I am pretty sure that you worked hard to get it there. The state park map looks great. I can look at it and ID most of the parks by the dot without looking at the info. I have really learned alot by doing this. I just expanded McConnells Mill State Park. I am thinking that someday soon Slippery Rock Creek is going to catch your eye. The PA DCNR website on McConells Mill has the info on how Slippery Rock got its name. I chose not to include it, but definetly think that it fits into all the Slippery Rock articles. As for "Shawn" at Shawnee State Park, that bit of info was added in the very first version by an unregistered user. It does not look like vandalism. Somebody knows something. Your concerns about the WPUI stuff are pretty valid. There are lots of iffy images on wiki. I think that for our state parks to be featured, we need to avoid that type of stuff. Well thats all for now. Have a good night. Dincher 02:07, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- I made the changes you suggested for Shawn the groundhog eating sea monster. He's off the main article and on the talk page. I really wish somebody could come up with a source. The Nearby State Parks question is something I wanted to ask too. I think we should have a consistent rule. Maybe all parks within a certain radius? 30 miles or so? Dincher 04:38, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- So we are agreeed on 30 miles. I will work on them too. This means that not all will have a state park that is "nearby". But there is nothing wrong with that. I will probably be working on the nearby state parks too today. And adding info to the Frog page. Dincher 16:33, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for doing the semi-automated peer review on Joyce Kilmer. I think I've covered all except for one of the issues raised by it. Funny thing happened today. I nominated the article for Good Article status and it was passed in one hour and 56 minutes. I put the article to Peer Review to see if it's FA-worthy and what else can be done to improve it. Whoa. —ExplorerCDT 00:27, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Hey
Happy New year! Yesterday, I finished another round of including editors' suggestions for Ohio Wesleyan University. Feel free to take a look when you have the time. :-)
Thank you for the support!
- Thank you for your compliments on all of my hard work! This has been a new experience for me to edit and even start new articles on Wikipedia. I have been with Wikipedia for some time and I have decided since I am reaching my final semester before I graduate that I would leave Wikipedia. I have an abundant amount of work that has to be completed before that time, so I have decided I will unregister with Wikipedia on January 31, 2007. My last edit will likely be on January 30. I hope to sometime return and even begin a new username! Thank you for your support and helping me throughout the process of creating good articles. Jordanrschroeder 22:18, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Paulins Kill now a Featured Article
As of a few moments ago, Paulins Kill was promoted to Featured Article status. I just wanted to thank you for your contributions to and suggestions for improving the article over these past few months and that I appreciate your help in bringing this article to notice as a Featured Article. Once again, thank you, and keep up the good work. —ExplorerCDT 22:48, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Groundhog Award
I am glad that you like the woodchuck. Perhaps the groundhog could become sort of a mascot for our List. I nice and respectful and apparently serious picture of the little critter could be featured prominently on the list page when it is ready for Featured Status. I added him to my user page too. The first animial I ever hit with a car was a groundhog, high atop Bald Eagle Mountain just off Pennsylvania Route 554. Dincher 17:00, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- Answers. I think that we should include state parks from other states if they are within the 30 mile radius. For the parks that don't have any within the 30 miles I think one or two closest will be good too. I think I am going to take my PA/NJ AAA issued map off the wall and make a circle with a 60 mile diameter and place the center on the park and go from there. My computer at home is too slow to be going back and forth looking up the coordinates and typing them in and so on. Maybe the circle idea will work. If my cat leaves me alone. She is a pencil freak! Dincher 16:39, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- I think that we have found a good solution to the nearby state parks distance question. I like what you did at Ryerson Station. Dincher 17:27, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
I expanded French Creek State Park tonight. That is way better than watching Law and Order. I added some more to the frog too. I'm tellin' ya, the list is gonna look good when it is done. Is it just me or is checking the distance for the nearby state parks a pain in the rump? It would be easy on a real map with a real compass. I don't have a compass. Dincher 04:09, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Your input requested
Feeling introspective, and as I respect your judgment and wisdom (even when brutal) and consider you a partner in that you have been immensely helpful in improving the projects I've been working on, I'd like you to take a crack at reviewing me at Wikipedia:Editor review/ExplorerCDT. Please be brutal, if the situations merit it. Thanks in advance. —ExplorerCDT 22:15, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
- Don't worry about being brutal. Because your suggestions are wise, thorough, constructive and worthwhile, I respect your brutality. Idiots who are brutal get my wrath. —ExplorerCDT 09:55, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- Also, I wouldn't mind if you also review my current work in progress: Athletics at Rutgers University. —ExplorerCDT 09:53, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- P.S. Thank you for the semi-automated PR. Already found an appropriate infobox. —ExplorerCDT 04:22, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Whatever you see on my talk page, or in my contributions that piques your interest. —ExplorerCDT 05:19, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
