Articles and guidelines

[edit]

David, I'm glad you want to contribute to Wikipedia. In order to keep the article, it must conform at minimum to two guidelines:

In particular, the last guideline is critical. Notability is established by multiple, reliable, third-party sources. In order to be sure of what constitutes a reliable source, see WP:RS. Generally, newspapers, magazines, etc. are considered reliable sources, and the article can't just contain a passing mention but must cover the topic of the article to be considered. I know there's a lot of junk on Wikipedia, but this stuff is being deleted every day as well.

Additionally, if you or someone who works for your company has written or edited the article ABOUT your company, it's considered a conflict of interest (see WP:COI). So many people use Wikipedia as a means of advertising that we have these rules in place to prevent it from becoming a collection of spam. Hope this helps. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{helpme}} before the question. Again, welcome! Please don't add 2,000+ characters to pages and mark the change as minor. That isn't what the minor button is for. Thanks. Jasynnash2 (talk) 08:21, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
