Sorry about the edit conflict

Hello, sorry about the edit conflict. I have been trying to use this { {firstarticle} } message I heard about when I find unsuitable articles by new users, in order not to scare them away. I don't think you were trying to do that, but I also think the standard deletion notice isn't a very welcoming one. I think they should rewrite it. Thanks for your time, LovesMacs (talk) 23:25, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I didn't notice an edit conflict, it must have given you one but not me. Because I use Twinkle to tag new pages the message that is given is an automated one from there. Have you tried bringing up your concerns at Wikipedia talk:Twinkle? -- roleplayer 23:28, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
I also use Twinkle, and that is an excellent idea. Since you use Twinkle, I have a question: on your system, when you rollback an edit, does Twinkle automatically open a tab for the user's talk page? It doesn't on my system, but I wonder if that is just a Safari (web browser) thing. I could warn people faster if Twinkle did open a new tab. Thanks, LovesMacs (talk) 23:33, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes Twinkle does open an edit window for me on a rollback, I'm using Mozilla Firefox. I also have Safari but I don't edit Wikipedia with it if I can help it. -- roleplayer 23:35, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Very well, I'll try using Firefox for Wikipedia. Thanks, LovesMacs (talk) 23:39, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Hello, I just tried using Twinkle with Firefox, and you're right, it does open an edit window for warning. On my system, though, it opens an actual window and not another tab, despite my tab settings. Is this normal? Thanks. LovesMacs (talk) 21:12, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes it's normal. It's because the encoding is hidden somewhere in Twinkle's javascript, rather than in your browser settings. Or something like that. -- roleplayer 21:28, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Too bad, I find it somewhat distracting. Thanks for your answer. LovesMacs (talk) 21:34, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Please note, in regard to this edit, that all submissions to Articles for creation are formatted as subpages of Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Submissions. So {{db-talk}} does not apply to them. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 00:26, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry my bad, I misread the page name and though it said articles for deletion. -- roleplayer 15:27, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

LIL QEW

hey there; db-person doesn't seem to be working; I've changed it to db-bio on this page but I thought you'd like to know for future edits :). Ironholds (talk) 18:49, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

It's displaying for me fine. Which browser are you using? -- roleplayer 18:51, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
Firefox 3.something. Ironholds (talk) 18:52, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't know what's going on there then. I'm using IE here at work at the moment, but at home I'm on Firefox 3. Will check when I get home. -- roleplayer 18:53, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Splendiforous

Hi Roleplayer, I noticed you placed a transwiki prod on Splendiforous, and wanted to let you know I think the article may be a hoax and likely should just be deleted. I left a comment on the talk page but I don't know a lot about Wiktionary and the transwiki process, so I do not want to replace yours with another prod. Thanks. --skew-t (talk) 01:23, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

After the original author removed the prod and hoax tags, an AfD was started. --skew-t (talk) 06:44, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Don't worry about the transwiki process, I'm new to that whole thing and am not sure it was done properly anyway. I'll take a look at the afd. -- roleplayer 07:13, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

The warning was for changing "Your God Shall Be My God" to "Your God Shall Be My ass" at Jonathan Romain. The message is fairly simple: do it again and you get blocked from editing. -- roleplayer 18:38, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

you seem to be an ignorant fool for vandalizing my page when i left a constructive edit to the feminine movement. If you vandalize my page again i will report you to the admin. If you do it again i will —Preceding unsigned comment added by Needyourhelp (talkcontribs) 18:43, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Please see WP:PORN: the image on the article is within context and is not pornography. Your edit was pure vandalism, as have all your edits been so far today. -- roleplayer 18:47, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: Userboxes (from DiscardedDream)

Hi, I have the moved the userbox you have created here into your user space. Can you not create these in Wikipedia mainspace please? Cheers. -- roleplayer 02:00, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi!
You've recently posted on my talk page that I cannot have an interface displaying userboxes that I have made, along with an internal link to them from my user page.
I have seen this done by several Wikipedians and it seemed that no one had a problem with it: Having pages within their user pages of userboxes they have made available for others to use... via the link on their user page.
You may have clarified what the issue was on my talk page, but I am a visual/spacial abosrber of information, therefore making it difficult for me to fully understand what you are trying to say. I would like to know, specifically, on what Wikipedia mainspace my userboxes for others to use should be put on.
DiscardedDream (talk) 02:19, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi, most userboxes exist in someone's username space, and are then used elsewhere. An example that I use on my own user page is User:KyraVixen/Userboxes/browser:PrefersFirefox. Alternatively they can be created in Template namespace, such as at Template:User degree/BA. Userboxes are never placed in main space. -- roleplayer 02:25, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks very much for your reply.
So what you mean is that I have to categorize the raw link as a template? This seems to make sense seeing as it is in fact a template that I made.
DiscardedDream (talk) 02:29, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
It may help you to read Wikipedia:Userboxes#Creating a new userbox. -- roleplayer 02:31, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, I'll try to figure it out.

Royal Grammar School High Wycombe

Apologies for the edit you have reverted, I did intend to reference it but was in a rush, I'll try to learn the edit tricks to proper referencing...

However I would appreciate your looking over the changes I've made, some could do with tidier editing I don't have the tricks for. I also removed a paragraph that is a prank.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.129.220.197 (talkcontribs) 19:39, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

No problem, thanks for referencing it, though it's still slightly POV to say that Oxbridge entry is "exceptional". -- roleplayer 09:17, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

Talkback

Hello, Roleplayer. You have new messages at OllieFury's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Confused as to edit warning...

Hi! I'm at a loss, as the person who sent this to me isn't on talk, but do you possibly have any idea why I would be sent this notice?

"Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Wonder Girls. Your edits appeared to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 14:38, 12 April 2008 (UTC)"

I never have done an edit to this article (indeed, have NO idea who The Wonder Girls ARE!), and don't understand why I received this. I'm at a loss, and am hoping that you could give me an idea or may know, as the user cannot be reached? Thank you so very much, and have a happy holiday season!

edelweiss68 Edelweiss68 (talk) 17:05, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
As you can see the warning has not appeared on your user talk page, so I'm assuming that you got this message before you logged on? Are you using IP 72.82.195.146 (talk · contribs)? This is the IP that was reverted by KnowledgeOfSelf (talk · contribs) at 14:38 on 12 April 2008. As IPs are sometimes shared between different users, if this wasn't you, just ignore it. -- roleplayer 20:08, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Henry Herbert Tailors

Hi there.

I recently posted a new entry about Henry Herbert Tailors. It was short and conscise and I felt of interest because of their heritage connections to the original Henry Herbert, Masterof the Revels to King Charles I and II (of which there is already a Wiki entry) and also because they are a London tailoring company, which is also of interest in its own right.

Please can you re-consider re-instating it as I do feel it is of genuine ineterest.

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours

Charles Baker —Preceding unsigned comment added by CortoMaltese007 (talkcontribs) 14:01, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, and thanks for your message. Unfortunately it is not enough that the company exists: it also has to be of proven notability, which is evidenced using verifiable, reliable sources. Although it is quite clear given the external link that you posted in the article that the company exists the information that you have provided about the company does not show that it is more notable than any other company of its industry. Being named after someone notable is not normally proof of notability. -- roleplayer 22:21, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Sateg page in English/Russian

Dear RolePlayer,

My very first article was about SATEG womens' shoes company http://www.sateg.ru/about-sateg-in-english.html

I'm not trying to promote or advertise, just allow those who're looking for exactly SATEG brand of women's shoes (including quite rare non-standard size shoes and very rare tailor-made shoes) - to find it in WikiPedia.

Sorry, if I was wrong. I've read the guidelines and tried to make my message brief, and exclude any possible "sales" or "advertising" language.

If WikiPedia is some kind of Guiness' record book and accepts only VERY unusual facts and stories - then yes, there is no place for regular companies, like SATEG.

However ... if I can improve / update SATEG page - please let me know what should I do, since I probably can't do it without a tutor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AntiDuck (talkcontribs) 16:06, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

A question regarding Hapa Happy Hour

Hello! I also added this note to the Talk Page as you suggested.

I sincerely apologize as I am new to the wiki and didn't know how to check my talk page until just now. I have added to the external links, Hapa Happy Hour, which is currently the only biweekly podcast hosted by three "Hapa" women. One of the hosts was a featured panelist at this year's Filipino American National Historical Society's biennial conference in June. They discuss the many layers of the multiracial experience as well as interview other multi-ethnic individuals and experts in the field. Please let me know if you feel this link is appropriate. Thanks for your consideration.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Hapa Wahine (talkcontribs) 02:37, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

The link you added doesn't really add anything new to the information contained within the article, and I notice that another editor has now reverted it under suspicion of it being spam. Please note that Wikipedia is not a directory of other websites and links that are deemed to be inappropriate in this way are, by default, considered to be spam. I would wait until someone responds to your query on the article's discussion page. -- roleplayer 19:11, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

I don understrand. the articles r fine. it is signfiicant in asia... u havent heard of them but they r popular —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rinklaw (talkcontribs) 05:08, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Please see Wikipedia:Notability before continuing to upload any new articles. You must show how they are notable, using verifiable, reliable sources, or they will be deleted. And please don't remove speedy deletion tags just because you disagree with the proposed deletion. Add the hangon tag as instructed, and then show us how they are notable by adding the information that illustrates this to the article. -- roleplayer 05:12, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
u have to give me time.. i only just started writing the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rinklaw (talkcontribs) 05:15, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
A useful thing to do would be to have the references ready before you start the article, so that you can prove their notability instantly. -- roleplayer 12:56, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

QII's Little Spy

What a striking user name! Do you know much about Hungarian nobility? I noticed the link on your user page. I'm interested in finding out who Harriet Howard's son married. -- roleplayer 00:52, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. But no I do not know much about Hungarian nobility. You might try the Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities. I find it to be quite helpful on subject not much people know about. And if don't get an answer keep asking it by moving it to the end of the page; that what I would do. Good luck! --Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 01:19, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks. -- roleplayer 01:22, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Please stop adding your own biography to the Kevin Harrington article. You shouldn't be adding yourself at all (see the above section) however if you are notable an article about you should go on a separate page, not on the back of someone else's article. -- roleplayer 00:55, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi - Wikipedia is a source for information (one of the categories being: People; Dead or Alive) I would like to write about a DRTV Pioneer that has been in the business 25 years. How do I add a new page? His name is Kevin Harrington, but that is already taken. (KevinHarringtonTV (talk) 01:42, 5 January 2009 (UTC))
Hi, sometimes you just have to accept that not everyone is notable enough for Wikipedia. Relatively few people are. I would read some of the links that were left for you at the top of this talk page before posting again. -- roleplayer 13:11, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

who are you? name, year, class.......... and quit changing so called 'bad grammar' —Preceding unsigned comment added by General Pushkin (talkcontribs) 09:52, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Re your message I am not a student at the above school, neither do I live anywhere near the place. I noticed the appalling grammar on that and other articles associated with schools in the local area recently and corrected accordingly. I will now go into it and fix your errors. -- roleplayer 10:05, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

how quaint

You're obviously an idiot. I have made no such changes to any of these school pages. But whilst perusing the schools which are located near me; Baxter bieng MY school, i happened to notice some changes which were simply fictitious so i made some changes of my own to correct these. Please kindly PISS OFF and refrain from changing things you obviously know nothing about.

Thankyou kindly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by General Pushkin (talkcontribs) 10:10, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Two things:
  1. You are mistaking me for the person that added all the stuff you are now removing from the articles. I have taken out an awful lot of trash from those articles, the editors you should be telling off are Random809 (talk · contribs) and whoever is using IP 81.159.148.189 (talk · contribs)
  2. DO NOT make personal attacks against other users on Wikipedia. Criticise content all you like, however if you continue to criticise people in that fashion (e.g. You're obviously an idiot, Please kindly PISS OFF) you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. I did not make any of the changes you are now removing from the articles. get your facts straight before criticiising other people.
-- roleplayer 11:42, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

re your message

Firstly you implied that I was writing the incorrect information on the article; I took offence to this as I ws the one correcting this small article. Secondly; some advice. You have a serious superiority complex, I advise you address it, and i advise you revise your comments about peoples schools/institutions before posting them for all to see. —Preceding unsigned comment added by General Pushkin (talkcontribs) 12:08, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I will take these in parts:
i advise you revise your comments about peoples schools/institutions before posting them for all to see
I have removed a great amount of nonsense from the articles you are referring to. I have not added anything to them. Proof, my edits: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]
you implied that I was writing the incorrect information on the article
No I implied that there were some errors to your formatting of the article. I am pleased to see that you have now sorted these out for yourself.
You have a serious superiority complex
Please see Wikipedia policy on personal attacks. This is a personal attack against me, you have no idea who I am or what my intentions are, so please if you can't refrain from criticising me personally rather than discussing the content of the articles with me do not bother to contact me at all.
