What, exactly is objectionable? I'm not well versed in this, trying to learn and I want to play by the rules. I could understand objections to specific products but don't understand objections to info about the company. I just completed a search on Supervalue, a food store in New Zealand. That's the kind of article I'd like to complete, if possible. Not advertising, just informative.

Your initial concerns focused on external links. So I removed them and reposted, even after I read that external links to the subject of the article are acceptable. So I am confused and need guidance.

Thanks. RinoxPavers (talk) 18:01, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I know its rough to start out and handle the article guidelines. In general, the articles need to be written in a neutral informative tone using reliable sources that exist beyond just a link to the company website...such as newspaper articles on the corporation, etc etc. I realize that this can be a problem to turn advertising copy into a substantial neutral article, so if you want to take the time I suggest maybe editing your article under your userspace User:RinoxPavers/Sandbox and then asking me or other administrators / experienced editors to see if it looks like it would fly.
Does that help? Syrthiss (talk) 18:10, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A little. I did include links to such articles in my initial post. Did you review those, by chance?

Would it be less objectionable if I created a manufacturing business stub and went that route? RinoxPavers (talk) 18:13, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, sorry I admit I didn't. The style hit my 'advertising spam' filter and I deleted it. :/
The stub may be the better bet, though if not a lot of people run across your article it might be a while until it expands (unless you expand it yourself).
Would you like me to go back to the oldest version of the article and look at the links? I can see the deleted version in memory. Syrthiss (talk) 18:18, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I went back and looked at the references, and at least the first few looked great. There was a malformed ref tag and so I couldn't resolve them on my machine when I read the article originally. I think that instead of just putting them up in a big set at the beginning of the article, the goal is to use the external sources to support things said in the article... For example, if you mention that your plant is located in Douglassville then you can use an inline reference to the http://www.pottsmerc.com/articles/2004/11/18/daily%20business/13389365.txt article. Syrthiss (talk) 18:32, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, so now we both have credibility in this discussion. Let me try to find the original version and insert the links as you suggest. Then I'll resubmit. I appreciate the guidance, really!

I could restore the original article if you'd like, and move it to the sandbox I linked above. Syrthiss (talk) 18:39, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That would be great, thank you. RinoxPavers (talk) 18:43, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ok, its there now. I pasted the old article as a new edit on top of what you had there (and fixed the broken ref link). cheers. Syrthiss (talk) 18:50, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again. I'll take another look, make some changes and resubmit. RinoxPavers (talk) 18:52, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Syrthiss, can you take a look at the Sandbox item and let me know if that will work for you, please? 19:43, 14 April 2009 (UTC)RinoxPavers (talk)

Ok, looks ok. I tidied up the references and wikified it, and placed it in a category. The last paragraph is slightly redundant, since someone could click the pavers wikilink and read more about pavers, but its also not entirely out of place. If my changes look good to you, let me know and either you or I can move it back out to the main article space. Cheers. Syrthiss (talk) 13:43, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I made one minor edit and then saved the page. Does that mean it's now on the main article space? That last step just isn't clear to me. RinoxPavers (talk) 12:21, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, I or you can move it (using the 'move' tab up at the top of the article) back out to the main space (I'll do it) which will preserve all your edits in the history. Syrthiss (talk) 12:26, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Its now at Rinox Pavers, tho someone may end up putting it into Rinox Pavers (company) or something like that, with a redirect from Rinox Pavers. Depends on how most of the manufacturing companies are titled, which I'm not familiar with. Cheers. Syrthiss (talk) 12:30, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks again for the guidance. RinoxPavers (talk) 12:32, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
