Need help with an afd

[edit]

Do you mind taking a look at an article for me? It was deleted a long time ago. I redid it to meet wiki standards and the same person who deleted it before nominated to delete it again without re-reading the article. He removed his nom but, the tag is still up and some editor recommended it for deletion. From what I can tell he/she did this without reading the article and may be tamper with the discussion. Can you help? JoeyC5 19:26, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joey5 has accused me of "tampering" with the debate. This is entirely unfounded, as the edit log will show. I have made no alterations to any comments or done anything inappropriate. humbly, Gaff ταλκ 20:02, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I came to ask the question below and saw this. What a coincidence! Joey asked me for some help with this issue too. He's new to Wikipedia and I'm pretty sure he didn't really mean to accuse anyone of anything. He just got confused about what happened at AFD. It's a bewildering process when you're new. (p.s. you can respond to both comments here.) --JayHenry 22:27, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I would say everyone needs a cup of tea. No one needs to accuse each other of anything - I am sure you are all acting with good intentions. Joey, let's see what the outcome of the AfD is. You've made your case, now sit back. Cheers, – Riana 04:00, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well said Riana! I am really sorry that Joey is upset his article has been listed on AfD. The same thing happened to me in 2005 when I started working on WP. It is not a fun time at all. I'm also sorry if I got bent out of shape thinkig he was accusing me of tweaking the debate...Gaff ταλκ 15:47, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's OK, everyone's fine now, I hope? – Riana 15:49, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page protection

[edit]

Hi Riana, a question. I was just curious when it's appropriate to use the small protection template with the little lock in the corner and when to use the full template. Is there a policy or is it just preference? I fished around a bit but didn't see an answer anywhere and figured I'd just ask since I saw you protected tiger. --JayHenry 22:23, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wellll... strictly speaking, I think policy indicates that the small lock icon should be used mainly in case of long-term protection (eg no-one's unprotecting George W Bush anytime soon, so the small lock stays). The small lock is used so that we don't put readers off by announcing a huge blaring tag right in the beginning of the article. I generally use the small lock when the page is heavily visited (eg Tiger, Virginia Tech massacre) even if it's a short-term protection, because I think it's courteous to our readers - they don't need to know about our inner problems, after all. Hope that answers your question, more or less :) Cheers, – Riana 03:57, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you undelete the page that is deleted here please? I recently put "test" on it but do not want that version I would like the old. Thanks and could you tell me when it is restored thanks! Wikiman53 t a 22:26, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!! A question...

[edit]

Hi, taco, as you probably know, I'd NEVER create a sockpuppet. But my friend who is staying with us for a while wants to create an account here, and our IP is based on our router, and our router is connected to all of our PCs, making every IP the same. So, can she create an account? Thanks, her is her Simple Page.C ya later!--Endo(Exo) 00:25, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you put a 2 month block on 213.232.79.139, but I noticed that 213.232.79.139 delete their own discussion, which I restored. Is this user really blocked? Sockettome 08:49, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Prod patrol

[edit]

Hi, I see you are deleting prods right now, I was wondering if you were aware of a script that could fill in the deletion summary automatically when you click the delete tab? I'm pretty sure such a script exists but I couldn't find it. (If you have the same for speedy deletion I'm also interested ;). Thanks! -- lucasbfr talk 10:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'll play a bit when I find the time, I have an idea, we will see ;) -- lucasbfr talk 10:38, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In case you want to beta-test what I did: (I'm not 100% sure there is no dependency with my other scripts) importScript('User:Lucasbfr/prodExpired.js');. It adds a "delete prod" tab at the top of the pages that have an expired prod, and it fills up the deletion reason automatically. The only issue for the moment is that it grabs HTML instead of wiki syntax... -- lucasbfr talk 11:43, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you refresh your cache, you'll see it's now working correctly (I edited the {{Dated prod}} template in the process after asking on the talk page, I hope nobody will mind. -- lucasbfr talk 14:49, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nope that's weird, autoreason is working fine here (I'm cleaning up the backlog at CSD right now). Was it happening before? Try to empty your cache (just to make sure, I often visit directly the script pages after emptying the cache and force a refresh there, the cache servers of Wikipedia are sometimes behaving weirdly). -- lucasbfr talk 08:47, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have a weird question: Does the tab always appear for you? I don't recall changing anything but I now have to refresh the page to have it. Something on my side or did I screw up something? -- lucasbfr talk 17:29, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

That's what I was thinking, I did try to add a comment on WP:UAA but Riana moves too fast :D, i thought there was supposed to be a tag saying that "this account it created by user:jones to prevent sock puppet impersonations" or something similar but the above didn't have one. Thanks for the heads up. You're correct, Secretlondon, I didn't check. Hopefully there's been no harm done, since I left autoblock disabled, and in any case, Moreschi can unblock it himself if he wishes to use it as an alternate account. And I rather foolishly assumed that users would create alternate accounts and it would show up on their user creation log, this being a safeguard against such incidents. Thanks again, – Riana 14:16, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I ended up unblocking CMoreschi after I noticed it in the UAA history. No harm done. Cheers, Sean William 14:18, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, okay Riana. Didn't know it was already being discussed here. Well, I guess the matter appears to be resolved. Nishkid64 (talk) 14:37, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that account's me, so if people search for my IRC nick they'll get redirected to the right place (such as with User:Shastadaisy). Apologies for the confusion, I should have done the redirects with my real account. The flap is completely my fault, profuse apologies to all concerned. Though the thought of this breaking out into a whopping great wheel war and you all getting desysopped over an alternate account is quite entertaining. I rather wish that had happened...almost. Anyway, my apologies to all. Cheers, Moreschi Talk 16:44, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No harm done, I just got told off, that's all, but that doesn't happen very often, so I don't mind :) – Riana 16:55, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My deleted Userspace

[edit]

hi riana, coming back after some days of relaxation, I found my complete userspace deleted.

Most of the pages are not really important for me, but one Page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Miscellany_for_deletion/User:Fathers_Son/Eisler was the result of one year work. I started this at my userpage at de-wikipedia, but it happened, that I become stalked by someone, so I decided to continue this article here.

Sorry, but don´t you have enough work with real vandals?

It was not, for sure and obviously a Personal web page, it was not a File storage area (this was an 100kb-text used and will be used in encyclopedia article!! What else? Nor it was a Dating services. Don´t you think that this was a little bit fast? I started to work on this article before you made your first edit in Wikipedia as Riana. And, I definitely know what wikipedia is: [1]

I have no idea who decided, that this is maybe not to be used for an article. Probably someone, with no idea of german language, even when it is obviously, that this is an article. And its a fact, to translate an article form german into english, it is necessary to copy the complete text especially for linkchecking. Did you ever wrote an article in some other projects than en.wikipedia?

I am able to translate my own work into english (with some help for specific parts), and this is, what I want to do, when the article is finished.

So, please recover this site. I will tranfer it than back to my site. If you dont want, that I should translate this article into en.wikipedia, tranfer the complete source to here: [2]

Thank You. --Fathers Son 15:20, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Riana, Stephen 16:28, 24 May 2007 (UTC)Since I am relatively new to Wikipedia, I would appreciate some clarity on where my article stands at the moment. If I understand correctly, it has been accepted as Wikipedia Biography Project and is now awaiting further evaluation before all the tags are removed. Is this correct? If so, it has been in this same state for a number of months. Is there anything that can be done to move the process forward?[reply]

too bitey of me?

[edit]

Hi Riana, I wanted your opinion about my behaviour regarding a new user I encountered who, on his/her second edit, hid a suspected sockpuppet tag on a user page of a currently blocked user. I reported the user to WP:ANI here and left a message on the person's talk page.

Do you think these actions were appropriate? I don't want to bite the newcomers, but given the user's actions, and knowing that there is a vandal/sockmaster who routinely blanks and vandalises Quebec-related articles, I was a bit suspicious.

Thanks. --Kyoko 06:09, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Riana. Like I said, I didn't want to scare away a potentially good contributor, but it just didn't feel right either. I hope you get a faster connection soon. Thanks again! P.S. I hope you liked the edit summary. --Kyoko 06:26, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suddenly noticed your talk page history was only partially there. Then I realized you move the talk page to archive it. Must say, great idea!

In fact, I was wondering a couple of days back, for editors like MONGO and AlphaChimp etc (ie. fast moving talk pages) it must be a pain to try to look for a particular diff. This makes more sense.

Thanks, I just learnt something today :)

Wrong edit summary

[edit]

Hi Riana, I hope you doing well :) May I ask you a question, sis? The script you recommended is helping me a lot, but I just found out there were a few speedy deleted images which (ahem!) because of stupidity on my first day I chose the wrong criteria when deleting them, CSD I1 instead of CSD I8. I am too (ahem again!) lazy to fix these items, but I'm afraid if I don't do anything, the wrong edit summaries would be left permanently in the deletion log. Shall I restore these images and delete them again using the accurate speedy criteria? I am in a muddle, hope you don't mind silly newbie admin's question :-S PeaceNT 12:26, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aapki Hindi sadasya pannaa thiik kar diya hai. :) Hopefully there won't be too much more of that. I put it on my watchlist. Keep up the good work. - Taxman Talk 20:55, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My images

Gee thanks for the warning that would have perhaps given me some time to fix the problem. I will no longer contribute anything to Wikipedia because of this bull shit.

Then why are 90% of them deleted? After uploading them to Wikipedia I deleted most of them off my hard drive so they're gone forever. This "fair use" explanation bit is crap. If an image is in an article it's damn well known why it's there so why should I have to explain it? I've had enough with Wikipedia.

  • Riana, don't sweat this. It's unfortunate that a user has left, but it's important that we abide by fair use law. If he's not willing to do that, and refuses to contribute unless he can break fair use law, well...there's not much we can do but bid him adieu and wish him the best in other endeavours. --Durin 15:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks for the backup, Durin :) I'm perfectly willing to help people understand the process, but if they choose not to be responsive to help, well, I wish them the best. Riana 15:35, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto, girl - you're doing the right thing, and with an extra dose of kindness to boot. You are, as usual, simply awesome ;) Phaedriel - 15:41, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lol! That image is hilarious, for some reason - which worries me that I've just reached the point of no return as far as Wikipedia's concerned ;) Thanks, love. Riana 15:47, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just reached the point of no return? Apparently it is true that the addict does not recognize the depth of her own addiction *wink*. The Dark 18:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
