Welcome, Red blaze![edit]

Hello Red blaze, welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like it here and stick around. If you want, you can drop us a note at Wikipedia:New user log to introduce yourself.

Before you start doing a lot of editing, you might want to take the Tutorial. It gives a lot of basic info you'll want to get you oriented on Wikipedia, and comes highly recommended.

Here're some handy links:

  • Help:Contents is the list of all of the information you need to use Wikipedia. Wikipedia's Help desk is the best place to ask questions to which you can't find the answers. Also, a lot more good information is at Wikimedia Meta-Wiki, which is often more up-to-date (as Meta is where information that pertains to all of the different Wikimedia projects, such as editing help, is stored and modified). Meta's Help section is located at m:Help:Contents, and more information about it can be found at Wikipedia:Meta and m:Meta:About.
  • Wikipedia:How to edit a page gives editing help. Whenever you're editing a page, there'll be a link to it below the editing box and to the right of the "Save page" and "Preview" buttons, for easier access.
  • Wikipedia:Manual of Style gives formatting information.
  • Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines tell about the principles we operate on. It's important, but you don't need to read it all at once. Our five most important tenets are listed under Wikipedia:Five pillars, and there's an easier-to-read version of Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines at Wikipedia:Simplified Ruleset. Our privacy policy is at Wikipedia:Privacy policy.
  • Wikipedia:Show preview explains how to double-check your edits before saving, an important feature. This allows you to see how edits you have made will look once you save the page and give you an opportunity to correct mistakes before submitting your changes.

Remember to sign your name on talk pages by typing " ~~~ " for your username and " ~~~~ " for your username and a timestamp (which is generally preferred). The software will automatically convert this upon saving the page.

If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page. I'll answer if I'm here. If you like, you can ask here, on your own talk page (for your own easier reference), but please let me know by posting a note on my talk page saying that you've replied.

Take care, and good wiki-ing, Snoutwood (talk) 18:06, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irish collage[edit]

Hi, we obviously do need more women and Catholics but I can't find many under a free license or those that are in the public domain (which they need to be for a collage apparently). We need to identify who we want then have a look through Google Images until we find a site that might release under a free license (i.e.Creative Commons without a non commercial clause, or GFDL). Arniep 01:56, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It needs a third tier but we need to get some images under a free license to fill it. Arniep 02:13, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scots and Irish History[edit]

I know it seems odd, but I have yet to find anything amiss in what they are doing (unless we are talking about two different groups). The likes of User:Angusmclellan, User:Calgacus in particular and others like them are doing some very fine work in the area. Of course, I too would like to see more intensive efforts by Irish members, particularly for any/everything pre-1798; but as a philosopher named Jager once commented, you cannot always get what you want. For myself I am a historian but have being suffering from terrible ill-health for several years now and despite begining many articles not a single one have I finished to my satisfaction. All I can do is add or revise in places, as well as start ones in the hope that someone else more robust will take them up. Fergananim 00:47, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Scots and Irish céilídh[edit]

I appreciate that you've left the original spelling alone, and put in "also spelled céilídh". Is the word commonly spelled with 'dh' in modern Irish Gaelic? I've only ever seen the 'dh' spelling in reference to Scots or English dance, or added for completeness by pedants. But my experience is American, not Irish. Re; the above[edit]

I've added a few more stubs, many of which contain red links which I hope to turn into further stubs. Here's a list of them, and I hope you enjoy them, and appprecieate the sheer scope of the subject concerned - no wonder so few want to tackle it!

Feel free to jump in and add some more. Is mise, Fergananim 17:42, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Plus the following (bal o dia ar on obair, huh?)Fergananim 19:35, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, as you did to Talk:Irish language, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Mal 00:25, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, but Mal you are the vandal, please stop your POVpushing and deletion of facts. Red blaze 01:11, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Behaviour warning[edit]

I feel I must draw attention to something about your behaviour that has been troubling me for the past couple of days.

  • From your contributions history it appears as if you have almost exclusively followed my own contributions and reverted specifically edits that I have made to articles with a certain theme.
  • We have both entered into a revert war with at least two articles because of this.
  • The tone you have taken with me has been unsettling.
  • You have made irrational edits, and suggested that you were acting on my behalf, which is blatantly untrue.
  • You have removed perfectly valid Project templates from two article talk pages, more than once.

I would ask you to read WP:CIVIL, and to examine your personal motivation - particularly in regard to enhancement of Wikipedia and with your attitude towards myself.

Thank you, --Mal 01:18, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Intervention[edit]

Regarding your recent edit disputes with User:Setanta747 can I make a few comments.

  1. On Wikipedia we have a policy called the 3 Revert Rule. Your edits to Irish language and Crack (craic) have come close to breaking this rule, if not actually having broken it, but I will not take action on it as I don't believe that way your intention.
  2. Please take discussions to the talk page if there is a dispute about an edit, don't keep reverting the page as this is very disruptive to the Wikipedia community.
  3. Oh please stop removing the templates for the Northern Irish Project. There is nothing wrong with them going on the talk page. They are not being put there as a political statement, just to show that the article falls within the scope of that project.

So please help and make Wikipedia a friendly place, take things to the discussion pages to try and sort out the issues, it does sometimes work. Thanks. Ben W Bell talk 06:35, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irish History[edit]

You seem like you have a lot a knowledge with respect Irish history so maybe you would like to comment on the historic basis of this term here Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-12-02 IRA 'Volunteer' usage —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DownDaRoad (talkcontribs) 00:09, 8 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Hello there![edit]

Let me know what you think of this 1347 in Ireland; am I going into too much depth, wandering too much from other Year's in style? Fergananim 17:30, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Craic[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Craic. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Craic. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:12, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
